  • Does the job!
Style: Pleated Shade Size: 30 inch x 64 inch Color: Natural
Needed something to keep southern sun from causing glare & heat from our kitchen table area. It was harder than anticipated to cut to length, mainly due to arthritis in my hands. I did utilize a tip to wrap ends being cutoff with tape to keep them from springing open while cutting. Instructions were clear...color very representative as shown and so far, adhesion is firm, time will tell as temps increase thru out summer. So far we are very happy with this purchase.....if it continues to perform as required, then we will go forward with ordering two more for the remaining kitchen windows. ... show more

  • Simple to install and does the job! a couple of tips are provided
Style: Pleated Shade Size: 30 inch x 64 inch Color: Natural
I just finished installing the shade. It took about 5 min. The instructions were clear and had clear images to assist. A couple of tips (some reiterating those in prior reviews): (1) sharpen your knife, if you have a high quality kitchen knife all the better. My feeling is that if you have low end knives the cutting process may not go as desired, and you might want to borrow a better knife from someone. I sharpened my middle range quality knife just before use and it did the job just fine. The use of the provided plastic cutting guide is crucial for a nice clean cut. (2) As I started cutting I noticed that the distal end (that which will fall off after cutting and not be used) had started to splay and was not remaining compact - which made the cutting harder as the whole shade had wobble to it and was not acting as a uniform solid. Simple fix; I wrapped the distal end tightly with packing tape so it would not wobble and the remainder of the cutting went smoothly. (3) As with any adhesive based item, make sure you clean the surface you plan on attaching to. I have painted walls and I did an interior installation. Last night I washed the interface surface with some general cleaning spray and paper towels and let it dry. Just prior to installation today I gently wiped it again with paper towels to remove any dust that may have accumulated. Stuck perfectly well. Pulled the shade down and goal accomplished. My goal was simply to block visibility through the window as I do not think I'll be doing too much up/down of the shade given the window placing; i.e., it's a privacy issue. The shade does have small open holes in two parallel columns, necessary for its construction, but the light infiltration is minimal (clear sunny sky out there right now). I can't speak to durability (yet) but installation was a breeze. ... show more

  • Customizable & Easy to Install
Style: Pleated Shade Size: 48 inch x 64 inch Color: White
I bought this as a temporary shade until I get my permanent ones after the remodel is complete. Easy to cut (I used an older kitchen knife so I won’t ruin my good ones) and looks good on the inside or from the outside. It doesn’t stick though. It started falling after about 2 days. I put a picture nail on each end and that has them up. Would recommend as a temporary shade. ... show more

  • Very Affordable.
Style: Pleated Shade Size: 36 inch x 64 inch Color: Natural
I put these in my living room, dining room and kitchen. After some redecorating, I was down to just needing window coverings. Everything I wanted was too expensive so I checked into using temporary shades. Luckily, I found these inexpensive shades that look fine and are not temporary. The hardest part is cutting them. The instructions show using a kitchen knife and that is what I did. Cut exactly as they say, at an angle is best to prevent the bottom from cracking. Two of mine did crack a little bit, but I used invisible tape and you don't see it. An important thing about cutting them is to make even cuts at each end of the shade. Don't cut just one end unless it is just an inch or less. It helps keep it balanced and hang even. I rate the shades 5 star because they raise and lower easily and they look like a more expensive shade. ... show more

  • EDIT>>>>JUNK NOW they block light, easy to install/operate and look nice and clean.
Style: Pleated Shade Size: 48 inch x 64 inch Color: White
These are cheap quick ways to cover your windows. If you want stunningly beautiful window treatments, these are not it. They look okay but that's it. They absolutely block the light. How tight you cut them to the side window jambs and stick the head piece tight to the window on the head jamb will reduce the amount of light that "sneaks" around the sides. Some light will get past. I've seen talk of cutting these to size with a kitchen knife, I found that very difficult and it left a poor/jagged edge. I used a cut-off or chop saw. I sandwiched the blind between 2 wood blocks to prevent it from fraying and it worked great just cut slowly. The honey-comb pleats seamed to get stuck/melted together slightly from this cutting method but once they were hung it was easy to slowly release them while pulling the shade down. When it is hot or cold outside and I open these I can feel that the air between the back of the blind and the window is much hotter/colder in relation to the room temp. That tells me that these actually do help to insulate against the outdoor temps. We had these for about 4 years in our old house and bought them for our new house now. We only had one that began to develop a crack in the bottom plastic rail but I chalk that up to my kids being a little rough with them on the pull down. They do not have any exposed strings to endanger kids/pets or annoy adults. EDIT March 2017; These used to be a 5 star! The ones we had in our old house were great for at least 4 years. I bought the same thing I thought. They look the same but haven't lasted 1.5 years. They won't retract. We really don't even use them that much so it's not overuse or abuse. They just will not retract and stay up anymore. So then when you hold it up so you can open the window for some breeze a little wind comes along and shreds them and twists them all up. They changed something and they are junk now. I still say they are easy to install and look pretty clean and nice when first installed but do not waste your time and hassle...it's not worth the low price. On top of it I ordered a couple more to complete the rest of the windows and they came out looking different...it's not really honey comb anymore so they are not as insulating and you can see these annoying little dots of sunlight coming through the creases where the string tracks down through the shade pleats. Even these do not function anymore. When I have the money I will rip down the the ones that are not already gone and buy a more quality shade. Not sure what happened but shame on Shades Unlimited for lowering their quality. ... show more
