This is a review of “REACHER Rechargeable Battery Powered Alarm Clock with 7 Colors Night Light, Small Digital Alarm Clock for Bedrooms, 8 Alarm Sounds, Temperature, Dimmer, 30-Level Volumes, Portable, Gift for Kids”. I’m including the item name to help guard against any future review hijacking. Most of us don’t strictly need an alarm clock anymore in this world with near-universal smartphone adoption, but there’s a certain simplicity to using a purpose-built device that only does one thing and does it well. In my opinion, this alarm clock qualifies. It’s not far from being as basic as possible, so you won’t find any custom ringtones or self-setting functions on it. But it manages to bundle a calendar, thermometer, and adjustable night light together with a surprisingly loud alarm and a rechargeable battery. Now that I’ve gotten used to it, it just feels right in a way that using my smartphone doesn’t, and I say that as someone who hasn’t used a purpose-built alarm clock since before smartphones existed. Oh, and it’s dumb enough that it won’t steal your data. There are two things I’m not sure about. First is the claimed battery life of two weeks, since I’d rather not risk running out of battery, even just a little. I’ve been charging it twice weekly, and that’s been often enough. Second is the retail price of $20 as of the time of review (late May 2024), which seems a bit high for such a simple device. Everything’s more expensive lately, so I guess it is what it is, and as long as it doesn’t increase in price too much from that level I think it’s still worth it. ... show more

    • Great Alternative to Plug In Alarm Clocks
The Reacher alarm clock has a modern look and feel to it, but it also reminds me of a retro alarm clock in some ways, specifically because it's not a phone and is has digital indiglo like controllable lighting. The alarm clock works and functions as it should. To me, it is average sized. I have older Sony alarm clocks that are very similar in size. This alarm clock's buttons are based on the back, but they are easy to use if reading the manual and trying them out for yourself. The audible and lighting dial are two features which I really like. I also really like the fact that you can pick and choose different sounds for your alarm clock. Overall, this is a good alarm clock to use for yourself or to give as a gift. It will make retro alarm clock fans and those in need of something else to use for an alarm besides a phone. It works well and it is very efficient in its design and function. ... show more

Our spare bedroom was missing a clock and this looked like a good choice. And it was. Easy to set up, easy to read, easy to change the body color, easy to change the alarm tune and easy to adjust the face and body brightness. The alarm is selectable so you can wake to the sound of waves rather than a harsh buzzer. Not sure yet how often I will need to charge the battery but that is going to vary depending on usage and for us, I suspect once a month will be more than enough. The only problem I have is when I pick it up I almost always hit the button to change the temperature display from oF to oC. Guess what, it is easy to switch it back. ... show more

First of all, this thing is huge. The listing photo gives the height and width measurements but fails to state the depth. Looking again at the listing, it does give all three dimensions buried in some long text (I'm not sure if it was there when I ordered) but it slightly underestimates the measurements. This clock is big and boxy and awkward to deal with. I was hoping for a travel clock and this one is bigger than is practical. The other issue is that the buttons are poorly designed. You can't actually see which button you are pushing and see the front of the clock at the same time. This makes adjusting things really hard. There are five buttons all in a row back there and they go off at the slightest touch. It took me multiple tries to adjust the time because holding the time button in doesn't usually work. Because the buttons are so sensitive, I found myself constantly turning on the music. There is no way to turn it off! You can push the alarm button but this turns the alarm on and then you have to hold the alarm button down to turn the alarm off. All while trying really hard not to hit the + or - buttons because that's what turned the music on in the first place. There are two manuals. A folding paper with several pages of instruction and a cheat sheet with a front and a back. Neither of them mentions the music at all. There appears to be no way to adjust it. Even with my accidentally turning it on about ten times over the course of my attempting to set the date and time and also when putting it away in the box, it never once played a different tune. The listing claims there are eight different alarm sounds. One page of the manual is a QR code for a setup video. If a travel clock requires a setup video, something is really wrong. ... show more

    • Very Solid, Love the light turning on with the alarm.
I bought this product as an attempt to take my recent "waking up with the sun" experiences from my camping trips home with me. I especially like how the light shines when the alarm goes off. My only complaint is that I can only set a single alarm, but overall the product is exactly what I need and want. I would recommend! ... show more

    • Easy to operate and does a fine job
The clock has many fun features, including the body glowing in different colors, a selection of various alarm sounds, and adjustable brightness. The dimmed one is very difficult to read, so finding a balance between not being to bright but still readable is a bit tricky. The 10 year old easily figured out all the features and enjoys the clock. The charge was holding well for the past few days with regular use. ... show more

I got this alarm clock to put into out guestroom. I don't expect that people will use it much as an alarm clock, but I like having that option just in case. I think it'll be nice to have a nightlight and large numbers to easily see the time. I like the fun colors and that it came with a reference card that I can leave out so my guests can easily figure out how to do simple operations with it. ... show more
