  • Fixed the "Death Wobble" on my 98 Cherokee

  • What a let down
You would think paying twice the price for a steering dampener you would get good quality, unfortunately not. This thing is rough. The boot has flashing all over it. There is no band to secure the boot to the dampener. The paint looks like crap. It looks nothing like the picture. My last jeep I had the Moog Trail boss steering dampener. What a better dampener. Fit and finish was so much better than this one. This is my first and last Rancho product. ... show more

  • Stabilizes steering on those rough roads!
Instructions aren't the best, hence the 4 stars vs. 5. I was able to figure it out, but others may have to google or youtube a correct installation process. Given the relative simplicity of the installation, better documentation should have been included (even experienced technicians need this at times. See next paragraph.) Overall the stabilizer seems to be doing it's job. I ended up buying this because the shop that replaced my tie-rods and ball joints LOST the castle nut that was on the installed stabilizer. In other words, they didn't install it correctly and the thing fell off! Seriously, I'm not making this up. Because of that, there was the dreaded Jeep Death Wobble, and it ended up taking about a month to get it fixed right. (It wasn't the improperly installed stabilizer being the sole cause of the wobble, although it sure added to it!) I'm not sure if I should have installed the boot or not. You can't really see it, so aesthetics isn't really a reason, it's more of whether or not the boot protects, or is just a place where dirt and grime can collect. We'll just have to wait and see. ... show more

  • Definitely feel a big difference. 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport w 2" Lift & 30" Tires
After putting on the lift kit, Skyjacker shocks and bigger tires the Jeep definitely drove differently. Has 170k miles on it and decided I might as well swap out the steering stabilizer as well. Don't do a ton of off-road but enough that I figured it was time to change it out. Noticed a huge difference immediately. Steering feels much firmer, not tight, but firm and controlled. Steering response also feels better, not as much "wiggle" so to speak when making turns of hitting big pot holes. Overall very glad I purchased it. Great product. Rancho has always had a great reputation and now I can definitely see why. One thing to note. The body is not as "white" as it appears in the picture. It is more of a medium grey color. No biggie but thought it was worth mentioning. ... show more

  • Great product, has all the fittings required
Another great product and has all the fitting pins bolts and nuts even though the picture does not show it. The only sad things is that the next to no clearance in the Jeep for the rubber protective boot that protects the piston which has resulted in the rubber boot being worn by rubbing on suspension parts even though it has only been on the car for a couple of months. This has not affected the performance however not sure how it will affect the durability with the shaft now exposed to the elements. Still very happy with the product. ... show more

  • Wrong Part Number?
I must've picked the wrong part number? I have a Rancho 4 inch lift, this should be a five minute bolt in. It did not have any of the hardware I need to do so. Have to go buy my own now. That kind of pisses me off. I shouldn't have to make a run to the hardware store to put your stabilizer on your kit, Rancho! ... show more

  • Went in easily, works well.
I've been offroading/crawling a couple times since installing this in my old Cherokee, as well as gotten in a lot of highway driving. If your steering stabilizer is shot, this is a great replacement. I paired it with some RS5000 shocks up front. Keep your receipt, I believe it has a lifetime warranty and Rancho will replace it if it ever leaks. Also note - the way one of the eyelets is angled, it makes you think that it's not completely seated when you try to install it. Get your head behind the stabilizer and take a good look/feel after you push it on - sometimes it looks like it's not completely seated, but it's just due to the angle of the eyelet. ... show more
