I finally decided to buy myself a new pastry cutter to replace the flimsy, rattly Betty Crocker one I've had for decades. I was so happy to pick up this sturdy, well-made cutter. It's well balanced, is a pleasure to hold and has a heft promises easy pastry cutting. But it doesn't cut it. Literally doesn't cut any frozen fats, which is what I work with for pastry. I've tried it with frozen butter pre-cut into teaspoon sized chunks and with frozen shortening of teaspoon to tablespoon size. It can't slice into them. I think the problem is that the blades are thick but not sharpened. I actually wound up bending blades a couple of times as the frozen butter pushed its way between them instead of being chunked up and worked into the dough. It's hard to believe that my flimsy old cutter does a better job at this but it does -- the blades are thinner. If work just with fridge-cold fats it might be ok but if you work with frozen, you might want to try something else. ... show more
