  • FAN IS QUIET AND EFFECTIVE
Style: AFG SMT ES-3.0
The QuietCool AFG SMT-3.0 is quiet and effective attic fan. It is mounted at the gable, which is nearly above our bedroom. When its hot out and the fan is working at top speed, its very quiet. Only a small rumbling sound can be heard. It is a nice white noise type sound. At low, where it automatically adjusts when the temperature cools off, it cannot be heard. Only faintly if I open the bedroom window, which is right below the gable of house. We noticed a difference of longer off cycling times the day of installation. We are talking 100+ degree outside air temp's here in California. This all translates into less wear and tear on the A/C system, by less operating time and less electricity usage. The fan was simple to mount and wire in. We just tapped into an electrical wire for one of the ceiling lights in living room, put in a metal electrical switch box with blank cover and wired in a plug at the end of this run to plug in the fan. It comes with a 3-prong plug along with easy to read instructions. You can hardwire it in (plug is not used), but we opted to use the plug. With a 15 year warranty from MFG., you know the fan is well made. Its not the cheapest, but its quiet operation and thermostat controlled multi-speed based on attic temperture, makes it a great choice! ... show more

  • Working flawlessly since July 2023
Style: AFG SMT ES-3.0
Great product. Attic and garage stay at least 10 to 15 degrees cooler. Inside house is cooler too. Low power draw so saving on electric bill. Works automatically so I never have to do anything with it. Easy install. Money well spent. Highly recommend.

  • Easy Install and Quiet Operation
Style: AFG SMT ES-3.0
I plugged the fan in, and connected it to my phone via blue tooth. It was easy to do and allowed the fan to be tested. . The kit came with the fasteners needed to mount the fan and the baffles. I built a small frame and took everything into the attic. It took about 35 minutes to install and it was up and running! The three speeds set at temperature and humidity levels allow total control. Manual override is also possible. The fan is fairly quiet considering the amount of air it moves, and the three speeds helps with noise as well. It drops the attic temperature about 40 degrees and the air conditioner runs much less and the house is more comfortable than before the fan was installed. Overall this was a very pleasant and productive experience. ... show more

  • Not perfect or cheap but efficient and easy to install
I was easily able to install this in the existing circular cut out for the old dead fan I was replacing. Four screws with rubber dampers hold it firmly in place and if you're putting int over a square cut out they include plastic cut outs to place around the fan and fill a square hole. I decided to keep the cord instead of hardwiring it - that gave me a good excuse to add an outlet in the attic for a light etc. My attic vent is directly over our master suite and at full power you can hear it, a low rumble - definitely background noise level, not obnoxious. I imagine in the summer when our A/C is running we won't even hear it. Or maybe we'll add a few more inches of insulation. Anyway at medium and low speeds it's barely noticeable and this is a few feet below that fan in an old 1960s construction building. The bluetooth doesn't have a lot of range, I can use the app from maybe 30 feet away below but that's about it. From the app you can set current attic temp and humidity, the fan state, and set up multiple presets and for each preset you can set the temp at which the fan goes from off, to low, to medium, and to high fan speeds. There's also setting to say how humidity effects fan operation but that is not relevant in the desert climate where I live. From the app you can also trigger a custom run on a timer. However after that timer is done the fan stays off - you have to re-enable the automatic operation via one of the presets. I'd consider that a bug - you should be able to select "automatic" or "off" mode after the timer mode completes - or have it go back to whatever it was before the timer mode was selected. Other than that (which I'm sure they could implement via software if they wanted) there's couple of things I wish the fan + app could do: 1. Determine when the external temp is the same as internal attic temp and stop running or go down to low regardless of the presets. If I set my fan to run at high speed when temp is over 100F and the external temp is 115F (not uncommon where I am) then when attic temp will never go below 100F. When it reaches close to 115F the fan can really make much difference so might as well slow down. To the QuietCool folks - I don't think this requires an external temp sensor or to hook into a weather data service for the fan location - just look and see if the temp has stayed within 1F in the last 30 minutes or so. If it has crank the fan down a notch. If temp starts going up bump it up again. Have a setting that controls how often it will do that so it isn't always cycling up and down. 2. I would love it if the controller kept a log of temp and fan activity which the bluetooth app could download and display. I'm pretty sure it probably does but that just isn't exposed to consumers. Knowing how well the fan is working will let me adjust my presets instead of constantly checking the attic temp and fan state. 3. This device has WiFi - why restrain it to bluetooth only? WiFi would have a lot greater range and I shouldn't need to spend $$ on another home automation controller box to make use of the WiFi. If you add WiFi support then I could tie it into Google Home (or Apple Kit) and control the fan by voice if the noise was ever bothering me, or even get Google to tell me the attic temp and humidity. How cool would that be? Super cool! ... show more
