  • Works great but not for Samsung Data Migration software
Really cool little adapter and definitely a must have for a 2018 data recovery kit... however... One star down because of this issue... Be aware that the SSD you insert will not be recognized by it's manufacturer ... so if you're trying to clone to a new Samsung M.2 SSD you will sadly have to look somewhere other than Samsung Data Migration software as it doesn't detect as a Samsung SSD... I used Macrium Reflect myself and then to extend my partition I used EaseUS partition Manager to get around this issue. ... show more

  • Didn't work for me
This device didn't work for me. I did troubleshoot the issue very carefully, bt I couuld only conclude that the device was faulty. For several NVMe SSDs that I tried (two were suspect, and one was known-good, new out of the box) I always got an error In Computer Management, the disk is shown as "unknown", and when i tried to initialize it, it gives the error "the request failed due to a fatal device hardware error". Sounds bad. The first problem was that the device was shown as "unknown" - if it were a viable USB removal storage device, it should show the partition as "unallocated" but in this case, "unknown" means that the o/s was not able to query the device to find out what kind of partition it has. This suggests that the controller is not working, or the device refuses to communicate with the controller. Now since this happened with a known-good SSD, that points toward the former. So it's not surprising that when you try to initialize the device, it gives this error, about a "fatal device hardware error". Too bad! I was really looking forard to making use of this device, but it let me down. Actually I bought it to troubleshoot an SSD that seems to have failed in my Synology NAS, and since it produced this error, I returned the SSD under RMA. When I got the brand-new SSD, I found that the device gave me the same error, and when I put the SSD into my NAS, it worked fine. So actually this device might have caused me to return an SSD that was working, but i'd never know because this Qnine device was the one that had failed. Oh well. I didn't have the heart to give it 1 star. I mean, this product looks great, and lots of other reviewers said it worked fine, it's compact, and easy to use. Just didn't work for me. Good luck. ... show more

  • Easy Peasy!
So I currently have a 256GB NVME PCI in my desktop and I needed to upgrade. I went out and bought a 2TB Intel 660P PCI NVME drive and was looking for a way to clone the smaller into the larger. After much searching, I decided on this little device as after reading the reviews, seemed simple. - I put the 2TB NVME drive into the adapter and plugged it in and the blue LED Lit up, but nothing detected. - I went into Disk Management and as soon as opening it requested to format as GPT Partition which I did - I installed and used Macrium, like do many else and I copied my C:\ to this new NVME drive which took about 30 min - I then wanted to increase the partition from the cloned 256 to my 2TB and downloaded EASEUS - Upon installing and using EaseUS, I could not get the damn thing to extend. After researching yet again, I found you cannot extend unallocated space that is not right next to your partition you want to extend. - I had to delete a few cloned partitions (image and other things from the desktop manufacturer). When I did this and tried to extend again, VIOLA! Extended in 30 seconds. - Powered down desktop and swapped the NVME drives and booted up without issue. I am now on my new NVME with nothing missed in between. IT is FABULOUS! Thank you QNINE for helping make this simple! ... show more

  • Could be 5 stars if the design was improved and it had some kind of case or shell during use.
This adapter does exactly what it's advertised to do but I can report that the set screw is pre-installed in the location for a 2280 size drive but if you need to relocate it on the fly for different size SSD Drives I question the durability of how long this adapter will last. The reason for the question of this durability is it appears the die/nut that the set screw screws into appears to be a self threading screw into the circuit board itself as it has no nut on the backside of the board. Multiple times of relocating this "nut" to different SSD size types will likely cause the board to wear and will no longer stay seated. For my use I'll probably never change the length of SSD I'm using but this is something you should note if you have multiple length drives. My only other observation is that when you are going to unplug the drive from the usb port it can be easily shocked or shorted if you aren't careful because you're literally grabbing the board with the m.2 drive attached from the USB port. I could see a careless or inattentive individual easily shorting or damaging an SSD Drive in repeated use. Even with the above information I'm giving it 4 Stars because it does exactly what I need it to but I would have paid more for a better design and something with a cover or case to protect the SSD during installation, use, and removal. ... show more

  • Hot Deal hot product (literaly).
I am using this as a tool for transferring OS drives to M.2 NVME drives as well as a portable Linux data recovery drive. The speed is good for a USB 3.1 output. Installing/removing the SSD is quick, and easy. Over it's a great tool to have. However M.2 drives can get very hot if your doing heavy tasks like transferring a 512GB or larger at once, and/or using this as a long term use external drive. It's not the devices fault that is just the nature of SSD in general. Since this dose not have a shell you need install a good heatsink on the SSD for long term use. Also if you have sensitivities to heat, and you need to remove the device quickly after a massive data transfer wear some gloves. After transferring 1.5TB of data to a Intel 600p 2TB SSD the temps were at around 60c (140f) that can burn injuries. If you don't have to hurry give it a few minutes (like 5~10 min.) to cool down to 37c before removing. This also works great on Single Board Computers (like Raspberry Pi ) as a OS Drive, or a portable Linux OS Drive for rescuing dying drives on other peoples PC. ... show more
