it works. it actually works. i didn't think it would be accurate as it is but it is. it might be -1db off but its been damn close to what my job's system shows for light level. and its been less than .5db off from the $300 light meters they issue. it feels cheap but it works great.

Bought to use on metro-distance wide area network links. In the -20 range it is within about a db and a half of what the switch reports, good enough for establishing if there's even anything coming across the fiber cable without giving one's self poor-man's LASIK in the process. I dinged it down to a three-star rating because nearly every fiber I've worked with for the last decade has used the smaller LC connector with its likewise small ferrule, and this tool uses the larger SC/ST/FC ferrule size. If someone would make a worthwhile (ie not plastic) adapter I'd rank it higher, but it is a bit awkward having to maintain a selection of adapters and cables in the bag with it. ... show more

I work with fiber in an Internet installation capacity. this meter is smaller than the one provided to me and can fit in my waist carry tool pouch and quickly test the light level. turns on quickly and turns off quickly.
