I am an 80 Year old Golfer---------These clubs work for me !!

  • As good as advertised
For reference, I am 6'2, and I've been golfing for about 20 years. I am about 14 handicap, although I have not been playing as much the last few years because, well... Kids. I am a long ball hitter, with my current f7 Cobra Irons, I consistently reach 185 yards with my 8 iron. I've heard about PXG the last few years as an up and coming brand, but I've never seen a set, nor known anyone that hits them. When I found the opportunity to evaluate the set as part of the Amazon program, I had to take the leap. The only drawback is that I'd have preferred steel shafts with a stiff rating rather than the regular graphites being offered due to high swing speed. After now playing with these, taking a few trips to the range, and hitting them using a launch monitor at home, I'm ready to offer my honest evaluation. In short, I am seriously impressed. The XCOR2 technology is not their latest and greatest, but they offer a serious upgrade over my now 7 year old cobras. Distance wise, I'm finding an additional 10-15 yards with the irons. The big difference is that the PXG are lofted lower than the Cobra by about 3 degrees. I was worried that the lower trajectory may be an issue holditgreena, but I have honestly not noticed much of a difference. Aesthetically they are ok for me. I've seen a lot of other reviews commenting about how amazing they look, but I don't see anything that stands out. The hitting experience is really nice. The ball just springs off the face of the club for me. The sound at impact is slightly muted and lower than what I am used to, and I really like it. In addition to the full iron set, it also included a 12 degree driver, 3W, a hybrid and a mallet putter. The driver has been difficult to hit, but I think that has more to do with the shaft than the club. The hybrid and 3W are new clubs in my bag, I traditionally carry just irons. They are growing on my, but I'm still not fully comfortable. The putter I don't hit now, I prefer my ping blade to the PXG. Overall this is a high quality set. I am still struggling with timing with the regular flex shafts, but I've made the decision to go for a PXG fitting to see if they can be re-shafted to fit my swing. I am confident that with the right adjustment these can be my new regular clubs. I am a new PXG fan, adnyi highly recommend including them in the evaluation for anyone looking for a new set. ... show more

  • PXG is for everyone

I am not the worlds most avid golfer but know my way around the space. For the longest time I thought PXG clubs were reserved for the most avid of golfer with deep pockets and willing to travel to get fitted and get them, not so fast. I was very impressed with these clubs, the fit and finish were top notch. From the grips all the way through the clubs they felt great. While I am not sure I hit these as far, they were certainly more forgiving. The graphite shafts for my swing might be a tad too flexible but it also might also be what I am used to. I wasn’t expecting much from the driver and putter but those were maybe my two favorite clubs in the bag, really loved how the ball rolled off the blade of the putter. The clubs aren’t incredibly cheap but considering you get a whole set top to bottom the value seems on point. I would recommend to those looking for new clubs but would encourage people to try them out first to make sure you get the right shaft flex, it will make a difference. If you get that right these are a fine set. ... show more

  • Forgiving clubs, higher trajectory
Size: Regular Style Name: 10 Club
I got the 10 club set with regular graphite shafts. The set came with a driver, 3-wood, 22-degree hybrid, 6-SW irons, and a putter. I am very impressed with the irons. My old set of irons are Callaway X-20 with firm steel shafts. I have come to accept that I've gotten older, less flexible, and have lost some strength. Once accepting this, I decided to get golf clubs that better fit what I'm currently able to do physically. That means a lighter club with a more flexible shaft. These PGX set of clubs, especially the irons, are just what I needed. First off, the clubs are forgiving, but there is still a reasonable amount of feedback. I can tell when, how, and why I mishit a ball. I hit balls with a nice, high trajectory. It reminds me of how I used to hit my X-20s when I was younger and stronger. The higher trajectory means more predictable distances and control. If there is any complaint I have, it is that I wish a 5-iron was included. As it stands, there is too much of a gap between the 6-iron and the hybrid. I will likely buy the 5-iron separately. These irons are definitely replacing my X-20s. As for the hybrid, for some reason, I'm unable to make decent contact with it. When I do make contact, it feels good. However, I will need to stay with my old hybrid, which is custom-made for me. The 3-wood and driver both feel the same whether I hit it flush or mishit the ball. The trajectory is decent, but for some reason, I can only hit fades. With my old woods, both Callaway, I can hit draws. I will probably have a few more practice sessions before deciding on whether or not to stick with the PXG 3-wood. It might be a case where I just need to get used to the club. The PXG driver can be adjusted (loft and lie). I will experiment with the settings and hopefully obtain the ball flight I'm after. The grips feel really good. I find them very comfortable with excellent grip while allowing the perfect amount of feedback. Different grip sizes are available, though not on this specific listing. The putter performs and feels really good, even on mishits. It has the fat putter grip and feels really good in my hands. The issue is that when buying a set, custom options for the putter can be hard to find. As it is in this set, the putter is too long for my height, stance, and putting style. All the clubs have a nice sound upon contact with the ball. The irons have a satisfying click. All the clubs have an exceptional, premium look. On its own, I find the irons to be exceptional. I like the putter very much, but will have to cut it down and regrip it. I'm not as impressed with the hybrid and woods, but I have a feeling that it's an issue with fitment. Probably the best advice I can give is if you're considering these clubs, get fitted first so that you get the exact set that will work best for you. With a premium brand like PXG, a proper fitting will make all the difference in the world. ... show more
