If you’re a wood turner who makes bowls, you can’t have too many chucks. If I had a big budget I’d have several Nova chucks, a vacuum chuck, a Cole chuck, and other dedicated chucks, but like most hobbyists, my budget is limited- at least for now. I rely a lot on temporary jam chucks and glue blocks made from construction softwood, which are attached to small and inexpensive faceplates like this one. At roughly $18 for a 2” model, this is cheap enough that I can have several on hand, each with its own dedicated temporary wood chuck. I can also use it, with the appropriate threaded center adapter, to make custom tailstock supports for turning odd objects. It’s a well made piece at a good price. ... show more

The good: This is now my main go to spindle. I love it! Sturdy and balanced I expect many years of good use out of it. The Bad: The center spindle screw stripped the internal threads/retaining screw on the first use. It took a lot of frustrated effort to remove it from the piece of oak it was embedded into and left a nasty burr inside the spindle. Would I buy again? Yes without any hesitation and just might do so in the near future to get some of the additional size offerings to increase the flexibility in various size projects. ... show more

Note: I paid $32 because I've previously had good luck with PSI products. This one, though is identical to the HAowosi model that was $10 cheaper. I know, because I received and returned the HAowosi model because of poor quality. When I received the PSI version, I had to use it to start a project immediatly to complete by Christmas. That said, here's my impression. Functional - Marginal Casting/Machining/Finish. Looks like it was kicked around the shop floor before it was shipped. Defects are cosmetic and I completed my turning project successfully. The provided mounting screws are too small. I wouldn't trust them to hold workpiece in place. More cost and time to go to the hardware store for larger screws. I'd have returned it, if I hadn't needed to use it immediately. Packaging was poor and the manufacturer's box was totally disintegrated in shipping. ... show more
