  • Good value
Size Name: 54CC Earth Auger
I used to use post hole diggers every almost every week when I built decks for a living 35 years ago. I used a two man digger and it was still miserable every time we hit a rock. I rented them because purchasing one was so expensive. This digger is much smaller than the ones I used to use and a small fraction of the price. I was skeptical that it could do the job, but figured I would try as it was less than a few days of rental. I am a big guy (about 290lbs) and it sent me flying as it hit rocks. That sounds bad, but it a question of physics - is it easier for the digger to go through rock or throw me across the lawn. I was tossed across the lawn. It has plenty of power. After feeling like I was breaking my wrist a few times, I found the best method was to use the throttle to ease downward and feel the rocks as I went pulling up to clear the hole of dirt often. I would adjust the direction and position the bit to knock the rock loose. Once I got the knack of the digger, I found it was easy to control and its light weight was a feature not a flaw. I could pull it out of the hole quickly which pulled a lot of dirt out. Sometimes the best option is to set the digger aside and pull rocks out by hand, but I also used a wet/dry shop vac and pressure washer to clear the hole and dig when I was near our propane line. That method make a mud pit around the hole and is no fun. However, the combination of digger, shop vac, pressure washer, and hand tools made the job of many post holes for a fence reasonable for one over weight soon to be senior citizen. My unit starts easily, but I am used to two cycle engines. It uses the same fuel mix as my Stihl equipment (50:1) so it was easy to keep fueled. In fact, I did my whole fencing project and didn't need to refuel once. So far it has worked for me and was already a bargain over renting the equipment for a few days to do the immediate job. Now I have a digger for other projects. ... show more

  • Cheap but gets the job done
Size Name: 54CC Earth Auger
Throttle trigger hung up on first use had to reroute cable. Other than that it runs good and gets the job done. Easy holes in S.E. TEXAS gumbo. Watch out for roots it has good torque and twist out of your hands if not careful. 60 8” holes in a day well worth the price beats hand digging any day

  • Excellent time saving and easy to use tool
Size Name: 54CC Earth Auger
I highly recommend this tool. I was concerned with some of the feedback from others, but let me provide additional information. A point was brought up about the mixing of oil and gas. The auger comes with a great container where it's marked how much gas and oil to put in to have the right mix. It actually has measurements for 25:1 as well for other tools, but you have the 50:1 to use for this tool. There should be no issues with this. The bigger concern for me was the twisting of your body when auger stops. There are two things to avoid this. Make sure your left leg or body is tightly against the auger so if it starts to go, you can absorb the motion. Secondly, you'll learn that when you see it slightly resisting or vibrating (not in a something is wrong with tool) then stop, get rocks out, and continue. I dug 24" holes very quickly. Small strokes and lift to get dirt out, and every so often stop and get more dirt out with your hand, continue, and you are where you want to get to with no problems. This saves a lot of time, and hard work to dig out a hole manually. I like this auger specifically due to the two extensions, and many sizes of bits. I highly recommend this. I had an issue with a leaking gas cap, but customer service was very quick to respond and they sent me a replacement cap for free with no issues. ... show more

  • Impressive auger
Size Name: 54CC Earth Auger
This auger is well worth the money. Small roots are no problem. Bigger roots will stop it so hang on tight and don’t run at full throttle

  • Contractor likes this product
Size Name: 54CC Earth Auger
I am a contractor and I’m using this product to install over 400 sign post along the side of the road, needless to say that it’s getting well used. I was attracted to the product because it came with 3 different size augers at what I viewed as a reasonable price compared to others in stores or online. The machine it self is light weight and easy to use, has enough torque to bite into the ground without stalling, it helps to go slow and take small bites out of the hole, start with the smaller size drill then work your way up in size if the ground is hard. I had some questions, posted them to the help line and always received a prompt quick reply and am very satisfied with their help, to me that’s a big plus, when I need answers I usually need them quickly to keep down time to a minimum. • Extremely temperamental trigger assembly
Size Name: 54CC Earth Auger
Good for loose dirt. Any kind of resistance or negative torque will bog it down. If it grabs while digging the possibility of damaging the trigger assembly is highly possible. Trying to fix my trigger assembly now. ( not working)
