  • Very nice product but the jaws were too tight
I bought this 4 months ago but only opened the package today so I couldn't return it. The vise looks very nice and feels fairly sturdy. The problem with my unit is that there is some binding when turning the handle to open and close the jaws. Lubricating the rods and threads and running the jaws in and out helped a great deal. I also removed the circlip and threaded rod to clean both the threaded rod and the threaded space within the vise. Once this was working well I worked on the two solid alignment rods but they are still too tight to open and close the jaws easily. I was able to get it working pretty well except at the extreme open position which is about 2-1/2". The little T-handle to hold the vise to the base is pretty small so I keep a small 4" cheater bar handy because the arthritis in my hands prevents me from tightening it securely. The knob on the table-mount takes a lot of turning to get it from full open to close. It did seem to tighten well. Maybe a T-handle would have been better here. I would give this product 5 stars if the jaws operated easily right out of the box. ... show more

  • Vise looks and feels extremely well constructed - I love it!
I really love this product. It's very solid and heavy enough to stay in place yet still be mobile. I purchased this vise to do detail work with jewelry so I am sometimes using the vise on my desk where my computer is. This vise does not feel like a "shop" vise, it actually feels like any of my other 'high-tech' gadgets I have on my desk. The vise looks and feels extremely well constructed. I love it! This vise has a great feel to it. All moving parts of the vise are very smooth and precise. Out of the box there was no oil residue on any part of the vise you would touch. The vise jaws are very smooth and seem to be made of a composite metal. The vise comes with two rubber sleeves that easily slide over jaw plates for protection when one might be working on jewelry or other delicate items. Very nice powder coat paint. The base is heavy enough to do many jobs without attaching the vise to a desk or table. There are two options for attaching the vise to a desk or table, there are holes on the base to allow the vise to be bolted down and there is an included attachment to allow the vise to be clamped down without making additional holes in your table or bench. Vise opening - 2 7/16" inch with rubber guards - 2 3/4" without guards. ... show more

  • Well Done
I rarely give a 5-star review, because the room for improvement is the biggest of all rooms. This vice shows craftsmanship, attention to details that are aimed at the many kinds of delicate work. I am sure the designer intended that it would support holding small delicate precision parts as is shown in the product photo. This should be understood, otherwise disappointment may arise. It is not a machinist vice that will hold up to pounding steel with a sledge hammer. It is heavy enough to perform many tasks without using the tabletop mounting bracket. The finishing appears to be a powder coating or other quality finish. I cannot prove that observation, but I am satisfied with its price and qualities. It appears to have a superior finish that should hold up for a lifetime, unless it is abused. Another reviewer commented about the holding power of the ball joint, and I might deduct a quarter-point from this review; -- I own a $1,200 camera tripod with a ball head that is able to be locked effortlessly, as such, I don't expect anyone to solve that design problem at this meager price. ... show more

  • Nice little bench vice
The epoxy that held the bushings in was a pain when I first got it. After a little work the vise worked great. Don't think it will replace almost any non articulating vise for rigidity, but for light precision work this is handy.

  • Solid medium duty vise
Pros: Majority of the components are made of steel, durable & sturdy. Handy removable rubber pads on the jaws to protect delicate work pieces. Base can also be screwed or bolted to a work table (table clamp is removable). Ball on the base allows pivoting of the vise head. The enamel & chrome looks like it will effectively protect the vise from corrosion. Compact. Cons: The knob of the table clamp is made of plastic and may not be durable enough for repeated use. The diameter of the screw shaft of the table clamp is inadequately small and flimsy looking considering the weight of the vise. It's not really strong enough to hold the vise in place securely for heavier jobs. Bottom line: A very versatile, portable & quality vise. Serves its purpose for lightweight to medium duty jobs. Worth the extra cost. ... show more

  • The perfect medium duty fully adjustable bench vise. Removable when not needed or bolt in place
I have had several of these smaller vises for working with polymer clay and other small jewellery work. Let me say first that these small vises are not built for sawing through a 1 inch thick pipe or torqueing off a rusted nut on a large bolt. To do that you need to get a larger 6" plus bench vise. But, if like me, you want a medium duty vise that will not take up a bunch of space and be an aid in your craft projects this is the best I have had so far. It's clampable so can be removed if you need the space, or can be bolted in place if a permanent spot is found for it. I use it a lot to hold my polymer clay extruder and it works perfect for this task. Once clamped or bolted in place it is fully articulated and you can put it in the best position to help you out. Recommended for jewellery and other medium duty craft work ... show more

  • GREAT STURDY VISE
I put off buying a vise for my workbench because I couldn’t find one with good reviews. This one arrived quickly, was built well, installed easily to my workbench (about 1-1/2” thick), holds my ring mandrel steady so I can make rings, when tightened properly it stays where you want it to. No back comments to share. ... show more
