The media could not be loaded. IOAOI is a newer company and I was really wondering if it made sense to stick with the known but overpriced brands or take a chance on the new guy. I’m glad I did. I ordered, received it quickly and installed it. It replaced a Vertex Omega 150 (discontinued). It started skimming in just a few hours with no fiddling or overflowing. I set the DC motor to 5, set the water level in the skimmer body and left it. 3 days later I had (video) that much skimmate and my tank stayed at 0 nitrates as it was before. I might need to turn it down to get nitrates up a bit. This was a solid purchase and although it may not be as bulky or heavy as some brands, it performs as well and potentially better since I’m running at only half power. Apparently a bigger footprint isn’t always an indicator of good skim ability. The watts used is in the single digits by the way. I prefer to put my money on livestock and lighting and with the money saved purchasing this skimmer, I can do just that. P.S. I had a query about using ozone and the company responded within hours of my message. If they continue this trend, they will be a reputable name in the reefing community soon enough. ... show more

I own and operate a local youth facility. We have a 150 gallon reef located in the children's area and some other various sized tanks throughout the facility. We ordered this protein skimmer specifically because we have purchased previous IOAOI products in the past and their performance has been impeccable thus far. This protein skimmer is replacing an old Reef Octopus Classic INT 150 protein skimmer in a 150 gallon reef tank. Packaging - The protein skimmer was packaged extremely well and arrived promptly via Prime shipping. Provided in the packaging is the skimmer body, the collection cup and lid, waste valve, the pump, the controller w/Velcro for mounting, the power adapter, a soft air line, a soft waste disposal line, noise reduction feet, tube valve, and silencer. All items were individually wrapped and packed firmly into a foam shock absorbing container that fit into the cardboard display box. Assembly - I had zero issues assembling the protein skimmer. It was pretty straightforward. The collection cup and lid simply twist locked into the skimmer body with secure tight seal. The tube valve slid into place next to the skimmer body. The pump output slid directly into the side of the skimmer body. The air line slid into the outlet located on the silencer which clipped securely to the tube valve. The opposite end of the air line was then connected to the venturi located at the inlet of the pump. The waste line and valve connected to the outlet of the collection cup. The pump attached to the controller with a water resistant fitting that screwed firmly into place locking in an O ring to shield the connection from water. The power adapter plugged in directly to the top of the controller. I was able to use the supplied velcro to attach the controller to the sliding control panel located near the tanks power station. The assembly was swift and without issue. Installation - My previous skimmer was plumbed into my overflow. After a quick adjustment I was able to simply place the new skimmer into the chamber next to the systems roller mat. I was able to adjust the height of the water in the skimmer as well as the water output by using the adjustable tube valve. It is suggested that the tube valve be completely open when first powering on the skimmer. I was able to adjust the amount of air coming into the pumps venturi by loosening a plastic screw located on the silencer and twisting the air intake slider slightly. The power of the pump is easily adjusted by pressing the intensity button with a power range of 1-10. The pumps power cable was plenty long enough to run the cabling around to the back of aquarium wall where my other controllers are mounted. All that is left to do is simply plug it in. Due to a quick change in plumbing, installation was completed in around 20 minutes. Operation - The protein skimmer runs completely silent. I am still amazed at how quiet all of the IOAOI pumps are. I am used to the loud sloshy airy sound of my previous skimmer. Tuning was simple. I run the skimmer at a power of 8 with full air and about a 20% decrease in water outlet from the tube valve. The controller has a feed timer but I do not intend to use it as I have it hooked into a secondary controller. I was pleased to see that the skimmer had started producing dark skimmate rather quickly. I have the skimmer set to run dry skimmate. I love the functionality of this skimmer! My water is crystal clear! This protein skimmer has exceeded my expectations! I am definitely a fan of IOAOI products! I couldn't be happier! I highly recommend! ... show more

    • Motor stopped after 2 months of use
I loved this skimmer at first since I was new to using them. I only used it a out 3 months and then it stopped. I went through and cleaned everything like the troubleshoot guide said. Worked for about another 30 min then stopped. I’ve tried everything and have narrowed it down to the dc pump is not working at all. Very frustrating since I’m outside the 30 day window. Can’t find the sellers website anywhere online to see if there is a manufacturer warranty. ... show more

I bought this skimmer to replace an old AC skimmer on a 100g tank. I was initially impressed with the packaging. Every part for the skimmer was well protected in its own cutout in the foam block. I can’t imagine any part could be damaged in shipping. The skimmer comes mostly assembled and only took a minute or two to finish assembling it to have it ready to be put into my sump. The footprint of this skimmer is small and should fit in almost any sump, it is also lightweight making it easy to install or remove for eventual cleaning. Also, with the pump mounted on the outside of the skimmer body it makes removing the pump very easy for cleaning. On my old skimmer I almost never cleaned the skimmer because getting the skimmer body out of my sump was a hassle and then taking the skimmer apart to get to the pump inside was also a pain. Neither of those things will be an issue with this skimmer. By the end of the first day the skimmer started making a stable foam. By the next day I was able to adjust it to where it was pulling out a wet skimmate. After just a few days I already had to empty the collection cup. To take the cup off you just have to give it a small turn to release it. The skimmer also includes a drain tube, which I haven’t used yet but is great for anyone wanting to use an external skimmate collection container. The skimmer is easy to adjust with three points of adjustment. The pump is a dc pump so you can control the pump speed, there is a air adjustment on the air silencer, and it has the normal adjustment valve to change the water level inside of the skimmer. It was easy to tune the skimmer, just adjust the pump speed and air valve as high as you could and still keep a stable head of foam, then turn the knob to change the water level in the skimmer to where the foam is about halfway up the neck. Also, with this being a dc pump it has the added advantage of being quiet, I can’t hear the skimmer pump at all. The only downside that I have found with this skimmer is that with it being so lightweight you have to make sure to hold on to the skimmer body while turning the collection cup for removal. If you don’t hold the skimmer body you will just spin the whole skimmer around. Overall it is a great skimmer at an affordable price, and it could compete with skimmers costing considerably more ... show more
