Not nearly as nice as the $140 Japanese DE-5000 unit which I also have, but for the price it's completely usable for around the house use! A friend and I compared ours and they read perhaps 20% differently than eachother, and you can't set the frequency of test (which does make a difference for some motor start capacitors because they have high inductance) You do have to use the zero knob to correctly measure small capacitors which is a little annoying (and the good designs are factory calibrated so you don't have to fiddle with the offset adjustment.) But again if you don't want to spend $140 and you want a nearly disposable unit just for checking capacitors to make sure they are OK and not dead, this will do it! ... show more

A lot of functionality is built into this It provides means to test all types of components so I can have less test equipment cluttering my bench and fewer test leads to get tangled. It has a solid case and seems rugged. The LCD screen flips up but doesn't stay in the most upright position very securely. It does not have a stand to hold the meter vertically. The instructions are SUPER basic. The zero knob is used only for the lowest range as the instructions say. I think there is an error in one of the tables about the accuracy of one of the ranges (the units it measures and accuracy are different, mico vs. nano). I left it at the office so if i remember i will upload a photo of the tables. . I say I think because I am not really sure. I was using it to determine the Z=L/C . But when I do it for a cable I know the Z value for, the math is coming out a few decimal places off. I think this is a 2 cable device, not a 4 cable. the slots are for directly plugging in the cable in place of using the leads. ... show more

I like this meter a lot. The only thing is the capcitance range could be higher. I was impressed with the quality of the probes. It came with a case which surprized me. Testing diodes is a much welcome feature. Not only does it test regular diodes but it can also test LEDs and tell you there forward voltage. The read out is large and very easy to read. ... show more

    • Bought it to test variable capacitors

I bought a mag-mount antenna, and found that I couldn't tune it to anything below 15MHz. My VNA also showed this behavior. Thinking that the variable cap in the tuning box might be wonky, I purchased this to test it. I found that the cap at one end was about 6 pf, and the other end should have been about 200 pf. As I turned the knob on the cap from the 6 pf end, about 2/3 of the way through the rotation, the capacitance jumped out of the meter range. Changing the range on the meter showed me it had jumped to about 20 microfarads. So, I was able to return it to the vendor for replacement. I will say that to do the measurement, I used very short leads and when I touched the leads, that affected capacitance, which makes sense. All in all, this was a good purchase for me. ... show more

I bought this to measure guitar pickup inductance.. and working on guitars and amplifiers...I still need a multimeter for some things but that's fine..this does a great job in every way.
