  • Looks great, sounds pretty good... a bit overpriced?
The tonearm is where this thing shines. And the included Moonstone cart sounds warm, clear and natural, very musical, better than expected. The setup out of the box was spot on, I just set the downforce with a scale and done! (I recommend using a scale as I found the markings on the weight to be inaccurate). HOWEVER there is some motor noise, that's why I knocked 1 star because it's not "perfect". But the noise is only really noticeable at 45rpm, and even then you have to get loud to hear it on a silent record part. I think most players with an internal motor suffer somewhat from motor hum coming thru the needle, until you get into much more expensive stuff. Normal listening volumes you don't hear it. I will say I think X2 is a bit over priced considering it only comes with a $300 cart. If you're torn between the X2 and the Marantz TT-15S1(same price range), I have both and I'll say this: The Marantz is a better value with a more expensive cart, but the the setup is tricky as you have to install the arm and cart. The sound of the Marantz is like a CD player - SUPER clear and flat, and dead silent, no motor noise with an external motor. No dust cover with the Marantz which sucks because the aftermarket cover is $300. The X2 is better looking with the nice heavy wood. X2 comes with dust cover. The X2 setup is easy with pre installed/aligned cart. Push button rpm change is nice. The X2 sounds a little more like you want a record player to sound: warm and natural, more pleasing to my ears than the Marantz. But X2 has some slight motor noise (barley noticeable at 33rpm, a little worse at 45rpm). EDIT - I returned the X2 because of motor hum ... show more

  • My Favorite Turntable
I've owned a few turntables over the years, they were fussy to setup and maintain, not so the X2. It was ready to go right out of the box. German engineering, EU sourced and manufactured what's not like about that. Great big gobs of the special reason vinyl is back, the music is alive, and if you're a buyer of flea market vinyl, a terrific ability to hold the groove on even warped records. I'm playing this through a Luxman 507 II integrated amp and Cain and Cain Abbey S speakers, and have found my audio sweet spot. ... show more

  • Wow! This thing absolutely blew me away!
Everything about this deck just oozes quality. You can feel it when taking it out of the box. Everything feels great. Setup was pretty easy. I bought this to replace a Rega Planar that had a ground hum (apparently a common issue) that could not be fixed. Man, this thing sounds fantastic. Everything about it is better than the Rega. The dust cover stays open at almost any angle. The included cables are fantastic. The acrylic platter is stunning and beefy. Really, just everything here is gorgeous. ... show more
