  • Great Sound. Much better than a CD
Came packaged very good and set-up was super easy. Haven't had a turntable in 30 years but the sound of this is awesome. No hum no distortion, everything sounds great, crisp and clean

  • Great Value
Excellent TT - love the look and performance (especially after installing an Ortofon 2M Blue cartridge).

  • Great TT!
Before I review this I would like to say I owned a project debut carbon for about 2 years. Although the Debut was good it had a few flaws that compromised its reputation. For one the motor suspension was a complete failure and motor hum was almost always present, if the debuts motor was purposely suspended to reduce vibrations completely, why didn't it work and why is it sold that way? Very shoddy engineering at best considering even vintage table 30+ years do NOT have this problem. Two other small problems was impractical speed change and a annoying anti skate weight that falls off often . Since I've owned the rpm carbon for a few months I can say for certain now though that the project rpm carbon has solved almost all the listed problems that the debut had. No motor noise if isolated well (no ikea shelfs!), magnetic antiskate, far easier speed change and VTA adjustment. The table sounds just as good as the debut except the rpm carbon has a blacker tonality, it seems to be more neutral sounding but just as involving. The build quality of this table is also very good with high quality materials except the tone arm rest which seems to be made out of cheaper plastic. This table like all things though always have their quirks. Be prepared to be frustrated at the hard to adjust counter weight and cheap feet that are horrid at isolating vibrations from speakers. I seriously reccomend investing in a good shelf if you by this to get the most out of your music. Other things to consider when buying this table is that it dosent have a dust cover and it's recommended to invest in a good slipmat (I prefer cork). For the price though I can say that this is probably the most viable optional if you want high end quality audio on the cheaper scale. This is definetely a step up from the cheaper tables around and is a great introduction to vinyl. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • A lot of work involved
I want to start this review by stating that I did not buy this turntable from Amazon. I purchased it from a local record shop. The reason I am taking the time to review the turntable is because I want to expand on what some others have included in their reviews. That being, this has decent bones but, it takes a lot to make it close to audiophile quality. I bought this turntable because, I recently got back into one of my passions; that being listening to good music on a good hi-fi. I won't go into all of the equipment I have recently purchased or am in the process of restoring but suffice it to say, I have spent some cash and time (happily) putting together a good sounding set-up. Part of my system includes this RPM 1. First, the bad: My impression of the turntable was less than positive. The motor rumbled. I got some feedback while playing at comfortable, yet spirited, listening levels. (Around 85 dB) The turntable's base transmitted every light ambient disruption, especially when I walked anywhere near my stand. The Sumiko Pearl cartridge that came mounted on the arm was flat and completely uninspiring. Actually, the cartridge is horrible. (No offense to those who seem to love this thing.) Secondly; how I believe I improved it: 1. I built a two-inch thick, vertical grain, twelve-pound pine base to set the unit on. 2. I purchased soft silicon discs to place under the included metal spike protectors. I set the turntable base on them. 3. I purchased four silicon speaker isolation pads to place under the base I made. 4. I cut some soft silicon mat to make a disc to set under the motor. (This also serves to keep the belt centered on the platter.) 5. I purchased a silicon platter mat to replace the thin felt pad that came with the unit. 6. I purchased a 1.25-pound stabilizer weight record clamp from Record Happy on Amazon. 7. Like many others, I purchased and installed a Otofon M2 Blue cartridge. Thirdly; the results: The turntable is now about 95%. I consider this a success because I rate the stock unit at about 45%. The motor rumble is still slightly detectable but, not when music is playing. The ambient disturbance is basically gone. There is still some hum when I turn up the volume when not playing a record but this could be from the sub-par Pro-Ject Phono Preamp I purchased. The Otofon 2M Blue is fantastic for the price and I couldn't recommend it more! Why did I not return the turntable, you ask? Because, I believe the RPM 1 has a good platform but simply needs some modifications. Also, I enjoy fixing things and working with my hands. I looked at this as a challenge. With the time involved and the accessories purchased, this is no longer a $500 turntable but, it now sounds like a $2,000 turntable so, I feel good about that. ... show more

  • Interesitng Design with Good Sound, but ...
I had this player for about two months with the Pearl cartridge hooked up to Cambridge 551P and Marantz receiver. It was a nice record player, and I did enjoy the S-Shaped arm and the warm sound of the Sumiko Pearl. However, as other reviewers already mentioned the dust in an issue. It was also very sensitive to shakes and small vibrations. I placed this inside my AV cabinet, and every time I closed the door, the record would've skipped. It wasn't also very forgiving with slightly warped records, maybe because of the way the platter rotates in this model. I ended up upgrading to Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Esprit SB with the internal switch box and the acrylic platter. I get less skips now, but the incredibly bright Ortofon 2M Red cartridge requires some time to get used to. Esprit doesn't look as cool as RPM either, so I guess I have to keep looking for the best table. ... show more

  • Customer service is non existant
My unit had a bad belt. So I contacted Pro-Ject's North American customer service for a replacement. Crickets. So I have an expensive paperweight. The unit is cheaply built and so is their customer service.

  • More cons than pros
Pros: sleek minimal design, space saver, good sumiko cartridge. Cons: dust magnet, humming issue, decoupled motor is loud and rumbles, tone arm vibrates, felt mat is cheap and no dust cover. Will be sending it back for a refund. I still have my trusty dandy Project Essential II NO HUMMING NO RUMBLE looking for an upgrade Project debut carbon DC .. humming . Fail Project espirit SB ..humming/hissing . Fail Project 1.3 carbon ..hum, motor rumble noise ..Fail ... show more
