It installed very easily (once I figured out the ratchet mechanism). It tightened down so tight I worried that it might hurt the spot welds on the tubular rack. Tire is completely fixed in the rack and cannot move. Those nylon straps are not going to stretch. Even if it relaxes a little, like I say, it started extremely tight. ... show more

The first couple of weeks my son had this on his roof rack holding down his spare tire, he noticed it would start to come loose and no longer be tight enough to hold the tire. After a little adjustment, it has held strong the last year or so without any additional tightening or adjusting. I don't think he really did anything different the last time he adjusted it, so not sure what was going on with it. I have this strap set up on my bed and holds a 35” tire perfectly also held up the abusive I put it threw, I broke a space on my upper control arm in the middle of nowhere and drove 3 hours with this strap wrapped around the upper and lower control arm got home and the strap continued to be tight I would trust this product 👍 ... show more

Fits up to a 40” tire no problem. I’m using it for a 35” tire so plenty of strap left over. Ratcheting system seems to be built pretty well I would say this strap could take some abuse in the desert.
