    • Nice shelf, easy to assemble

My husband and I bought two of these shelves. One is larger/wider. We need then for our workshop. I do art glass and I wanted the smaller one to hold my small glass sheets, bottles of frit, and some small tools. I put the small one together by myself this past weekend. It took us awhile to get around to assembling them because of some things that came up (life). All of the hardware was present in the box and it was packed really well. The instructions were good. I'm a technical writer and I shudder at most assembly instructions but it was clear that they put some effort into the ones for these shelves. It's not a complicated assembly but the illustrations and instructions assure you know what to do and a few points to be careful about (e.g., having things in the correct orientation). The shelving itself (pressboard) is not as thick and strong as I'd like but I knew that when I bought them and if we need to swap some stronger boards for a some of these shelves, we don't mind. They will be plenty strong enough for most of what we'll have on the shelves. My main concern is my stained glass sheets. They are heavy. I won't exceed the weight limit per shelf but I think the glass will really test that limit and for that reason I'll use a heavier duty board for those shelves. I also plan to seal the shelves just in case of moisture. It was really nice that the gloves and rubber mallet are included in the box. I did use the mallet and was glad to have it because I didn't have one of my own beforehand (and wouldn't have wanted to use a regular hammer). Many of the pieces fit together with a little muscle power, no mallet needed, but others needed a bit of pounding. My husband showed me to place a small board over the top end when connecting the upper half of the structure to the lower half. At first I had a hard time getting those pieces to fully connect, but using a board between the mallet and the bracket was like magic! Right together! I have the smaller one in place with some of my things on it. I will anchor it to the wall, but I wanted to be sure of placement first. I'll build the larger one soon and we plan to order at least one more of the large one. We wanted to seem them first before getting more. Yes, you can buy sturdier shelves but these are a very good deal, appear to be well made and well thought-out, and I'm sure they will work for us for years to come and we are glad to have them. And you get the bonus of the mallet! We did have a problem with the delivery but that was not the vendor's fault. The carrier delivered both boxes to the wrong address in our rural area. They left then leaning against a fence outside of the person's property (i.e., carrier photo) and someone stole them before we figured it out. We know the people and we know they wouldn't have kept them themselves. The vendor assured me I shouldn't worry and they sent us replacement shelves right away. I did inform the carrier that it was their mistake and I hope that the vendor's claim is honored, that they are not out of pocket on this. We won't hesitate to order from this vendor again, both because of their great customer service and because we are happy with the shelving. ... show more

A storage shelf is a storage shelf, whether a garage storage shelf or not. In this case, it is not. My wife decided we needed a better way to store extra food supplies. Note. She is a fan of using non-traditional items for storage. Enter this garage storage unit. So, let’s talk about this shelving kit. At first glance, the wood shelves appear flimsy. And they are, but more on that in a minute. The kit comes with instructions and a mallet. The instruction suggests that two people work on putting this thing together. I concur. And here is why. The rails do not securely lock into place. You need to complete the lowest part of the shelving first. Next, work on the top part. This works better with two people instead of one. Even when you do this, the whole thing can come apart. So what to do? You need to install a shelf to begin to lock in the structure. Installing shelves helps stabilize the structure. Note. Assemble this thing near the place you want it to be. Moving it can cause it to fall apart, at least until completion. Final Location As you can see in the photos, we installed the storage shelf in the coat closet. My measurements were right on. It is a perfect fit. With the storage unit in place. We finished installing the rest of the shelves. About Those Flimsy Boards With the unit complete, we found that the wooden shelves were no longer flimsy. We have heavy items, such as juices, on the bottom shelf. There is no sagging. Putting the storage shelf in the coat closet works for us and maybe for you. But in any case, this is a great deal. Just consider carefully where the storage shelf is going to live. Check its sturdiness after you have completed construction. And make things easy for yourself. Get someone to help you. ... show more

    • Simple Garage Shelf!

Needed a simple fix for all of our shoes in the garage and since we aren’t ready to give the garage a complete renovation yet, I wanted one that was not too expensive and at least neutral enough to still be used even when we decide to give our garage a transformation. I feel like the wood inserts for the shelf could be painted if you want to but I like the look of the black body since we will probably have our garage end up with mostly black shelving. Easy to set up, they give you the mallet to hammer everything in. No special tools or hardware necessary. So that part was quick and easy. I give it 4 stars because a few of the pieces were slightly bent so I actually couldn’t put one of the shelves at the tier that I wanted it. I wasn’t going to go through the hassle of returning to reorder and instead just adjusted all of them. It’s bent because the shelving portions aren’t the highest quality material. But, I don’t need it to be. Wouldn’t recommend this as a heavy duty shelf but for simple storage solutions, this is a great fit. ... show more

The storage shelves are well engineered going to togeater pretty quick & easy. Each package came with exactly enough pieces, although it would have been nice if there was a few extra nuts & bolts. The metal rails and posts had a very nice coat of paint which resulted in a very nice finished product.
