Each one holds about 2.5 of the home depot 27 gallon bins. Wife is nervous about my choice to hang one over the garage entry door, but I'm pretty sure I could do a pullup from this shelf. I trust it. I purchased these in the hope that they would be strong enough to store a lot of stuff, yet not look ugly in our finished and painted garage. Fortunately they didn't disappoint. Not only are they strong and attractive, but they were easy to install. But since they are capable of holding 250lbs, be sure to attach them to studs or another sturdy support like cinder blocks. This is an item that I absolutely needed in my garage. I tried looking for shelving locally, but neither Lowes or Home Depot carried anything that seemed worth it. I checked out a couple of items on Amazon, and this one was included. I added it to my wish list and looked at it a few times because it had very good ratings, and would be a perfect fit in my one-car garage. The other item was too long. I've listed a few of the pros and cons regarding these shelves below: Pros: 1). Super sturdy. I weigh about 195 pounds and used one of them to do a borderline dip, and it didn't budge! The screws are all thick and sturdy as well! But you MUST use studs, or other comparable stabilizing force. 2). Super-quick (as in two-day) shipment. POW!!! LOL!!! XD 3). Nice color 4). Everything was included; nothing missing and no need to contact customer service Cons: 1). Set up was not as easy as expected (see explanation below) 2). Too expensive 3). May also need a ratchet set; impact drill wasn't enough for the larger screws **Honorable Mention** It smelled like laundry detergent and had a white, powdery substance on/in the box? I don't get that one, but I digress... the items were wrapped tightly, and nothing was scuffed, damaged. (= So, my overall rating is four stars because of the 'difficulty' in setting the shelves up. Everything was in place, the brackets were set up, I only had to install the shelves. That was the most difficult part because they didn't fit easily. I had to turn around and remove the top-most screw on the left (for each bracket) to make room for the shelves to slide in as depicted in the directions. There was absolutely no way in the world those shelves would've fit with that screw in the way. NONE!! If I wasn't so tired and dehydrated, I would've returned the shelves for a daggone refund! I was disappointed that the directions made no mention of that part, and I hope no one else has to go through the same thing I did. What should've took a few minutes to complete took much, muuuuuuuuuch longer. If everything was perfect, then 5 stars would've been chosen. Unfortunately, the setup was not as easy as expected. Minus one star for lack of mentioning that step in instructions. I read the other reviews, and no one else mentioned it... maybe it's just me, but I'm a DIY guy that's not been worn out by many projects... luckily, I tried it out, and it worked out just fine. Screw back in place, shelves slid left to right, but that was halted after installing the smaller two-screw bracket. Overall, they're a very nice set of shelves. This set is very sturdy and can hang bikes on the hooks. We had same set from costco and install this set again when we moved. We are very happy with it and it opens up a lot of space by offering a storage solution for our bikes. recommend.

    • A great alternative to ceiling mounted racks

Our new house has this strange alcove where our water heater sits (see image). I purchased two of the 4' x 8' ceiling mounted racks that I plan to install, but decided to make use of this weird alcove and these shelves. The alcove is 24" x 70" and our ceiling is 12' high. So much potential storage space. My wife loves how easy it is to grab items off the shelf from the stair landing. Easy reach and easy to stack items (COSTCO TP case). I did decide to buy some grade 5 lag screws as I had read that others had problems with the provided screws snapping off the heads. I used the washers that came provided and installed with a 13mm socket mounted on my cordless drill/driver. Pre-drilled the holes first and mounted into the stud wall. The rack becomes more stable after securing the wall side of the rack to a stud wall with the C-bracket and screws. I highly recommend these shelves. Good directions. 2/5 installation difficulty level. Needed tools: level, drill with bits, pencil to mark hole locations, socket or wrench, tape measure. ... show more
