  • Great value, very versatile
I use these for some unlikely things. I keep a couple in the car for winter emergencies, but use and resuse one in the car often to keep things cold or hot when I can't get home right away (dinner from a restaurant, cold groceries, picnic salads when I'm traveling to a get together, etc). Wrap anything up in these and it'll keep them hot or cold for hours. Very easy and inexpensive form of insulation. I also add these to blessing bags I keep in my car in case I run into someone who's homeless and looking for help. I toss one of these in a gallon ziploc with some snacks, travel toiletries, and a few bucks. These are very helpful to have for anyone sleeping outside. My dad used to use them under our sleeping bags while tenting and they keep you warm and dry for sure. I've also used these at work for big catered parties. We were finding that when we put extra trays of hot food under the serving tables for when we needed to replenish the trays on top, the cold tile floor was sucking the heat right out of our expensive catered foods. We put one of these, maybe quadruple folded for size, under each catering tray and the food stayed hot for hours until everyone in our 400 person building was fed. These are so versatile. I'm sure there are dozens of other ways I'll find to use these! ... show more

  • Thin, rips, no warmth added
These are incredibly thin, rip very easily, and do not assist with warmth retention or create an increase in temperature when used outdoors at night. They did not even make it through one night; they tore almost instantly with any movement. The only benefit was keeping dry under a few drops of very light rain. I am glad I tried these out before placing them in my emergency kit to be used as actual emergency blankets should the need arise. ... show more

  • You get what you pay for
I bought these about 19 months ago. Today was the first time I opened one of the packets. NO MYLAR - just clear plastic. I can’t tell if the Mylar coating had deteriorated (I didn’t see any sort of residue) or if it had never been there. It doesn’t matter. If you want to try and keep feral cats warm - go ahead and save a few bucks. But if you think you might ever actually need a rescue blanket, you could be in for a nasty surprise. ... show more

  • For every vehicle and BOB!
Mylar blankets are a good thing to keep on hand. Everyone should have some. Keep some in your car at all times. You can wrap yourself in them, cover your windows with them (with some tape), signal with them, they're very shiny, or even help someone else in need! Also, with some duct tape and rope or paracord, you can improvise a temporary shelter with them. Basically make a small tent or even a teepee. They can also be used to collect rainwater. Be sure to boil it before you drink it. All in all, Mylar blankets are a must have for any vehicle or bug out bag. You get ten of them for less than a buck each, so you can't go wrong there, and as the saying goes, "It's better to have something and not need it, than to need it and not have it". ... show more

  • Perfectly described
Very happy with the product. Product I received was perfectly described. I am using in a somewhat unconventional way. I live in an older home with radiators and poorly insulated walls. I am wrapping cardboard with the mylar and placing behind the radiators to reflect more heat into the house instead of into the poorly insulated wall. It is actually working really well and my heating bill last month with significantly lower than in previous years. ... show more

  • These things saved my kitty!
I have to admit, I didn't buy these for me. My husband and I have been taking care of our neighbor's abandoned cat for close to a year now. We used to keep him in our apartment (despite a no-pets clause in our lease) but when he got fleas, we decided it was time to stop bringing him in. It's getting cold now, so I built him a shelter out of a plastic storage bin, insulating foam cut to fit around each side of the bin (including top and bottom), some straw and one of our blankets that he loves. I was worried that plain insulating foam might not keep out the cold Philadelphia winter, so I ordered these blankets and wrapped one around each piece of the foam so that the entire bin was insulated. A few weeks ago we had a cold snap and the cat was hanging out in the shelter. While he was in there, I stuck my arm in to get his food bowl to refill it and even though it was barely 30 degrees outside, I swear it was at least 70 degrees in the shelter - the Mylar blankets retained so much of the little guy's body heat that it was downright comfortable, even with the opening we cut into the box to let him come and go. I'm not worried about him freezing to death anymore. If they work for that, I'm sure they're great in an emergency. ... show more

  • Great price for this survival necessity
These are an exceptional value for those who sleep in the elements. I ordered them to distribute to the homeless in Phoenix, as our desert nights get very cold. I was told by the person handing them out, that the homeless love them and reuse them. Great for survival kits.

  • and this is a great deal for a 10pk
NOTE: I didn't see a unit weight listed anywhere. If you're a backpacker, these weigh 1.6oz (48g) apiece, including the little baggie they come in. When it comes to "mylar film stuffed in a ziploc" it really comes down to the price, and this is a great deal for a 10pk. I used to carry a 2-person version that I got at a local sporting goods store for $14(!). When I started hiking more with my wife and kids I wanted us each to carry these in our backpacks and this 10-pk cost less than the (single) two-person version I had bought earlier. Mylar film is waterproof, so in addition to covering you to keep you warm in a survival situation they're also great ground-cover. Ground can be cold AND damp and sitting on it can drain the heat out of you pretty fast. These will stop that from happening. They're not marketed for this, but they're also decent rain ponchos if (like me) you're the type who says "eh, a garbage bag will work in a pinch". You need to cut a slot for your head in the center and then drape it over you, and there's no hood that way, but it'll work in a pinch. These are a LITTLE too small to be used as a canopy/tent in a shelter-type situation but otherwise I can think of lots of uses. ... show more
