The removable grille and tray make this cage easy to clean and are held in place with a wind bell lock. Previous reviews that talk about the quality being questionable are justifiable in some measure. Putting it together took some patience and common sense. The problem for one person is when it comes time to pick up a completed level to put it the base then the corner attachments slide off if you are not holding at opposite corners. Additionally, if you follow the instructions and try to put it together on the base itself, then you will need to pre-stage all of the equipment you will need and also have some flexible arms to hold the two sides in place while you attach the third side to give it some stability. It is difinitely a pain to put together, but once together (correctly), then it is really stable. Be sure to use ALL of the latching attachments. With respect to the bent wires, it appears that the wires are bent during shipping because the foam does not separate some of the handle protrusions and other connected items so those fixed spots bend the opposing wires. I was able to bend the wires back into reasonable shape once the entire product was put together, but initially they looked very messed up in three different places. In general, the packing was well done. The welds are solid but the material is not designed for heavy pushing or pulling so I would expect the welds to break at the base wheels or in the corners if I did a lot of pulling or pushing of this cage across carpet. I use it on a tile floor, so my only complaint is that I wished that at least 2 wheels had locks on them so that the cage could be stationary, but that would probably cost $!0+ more and not add much value to the majority of us pet owners. We use this pet home for two large female rats and it has done a good job this past 30 days. Because the bars run vertically, the rats are unable to climb along the walls like they could in their previous cage, but it does provide lots of space for them to run and play. Comparing the square foot cost of other cages, this is probably the best "value" for the money. I expect it to last for the next several years and well beyond with weekly cleanings. ... show more

I absolutely LOVE this cage. I bought the first one at a local pet store, and have since ordered 2 more off of Amazon. I run a rattery, and so being able to maintain a cage is a big deal to me. This cage opens up nicely in the front, on both the upper and lower levels. It’s got locking doors that are easy for humans to open from the outside, but critter proof from the inside. The shelves can be moved into other configurations than what is shown here (I just happen to like them best in this configuration!), and they are made out of plastic. The texture is not slick, but the little bit of grippy texture on them isn’t too aggressive, making it very easy to keep clean. The shelves aren’t deep enough to really hold much bedding, but I’ve just added appropriately-sized storage containers to give my rats something to sleep in, if they don’t feel like going to the hammocks. The one drawback in my opinion is that you can’t easily hang hammocks or other hanging things from the bottom of the shelves. This isn’t a huge issue for me, since I’ve just attached baskets to the walls of the cage underneath the shelves and that seems to work. I HIGHLY recommend this cage. It is comparable in size to a Double Critter Nation setup, and quite a bit lower in price if you’re buying new. I actually prefer this cage, but I think that’s just a matter of personal preference. :) Either way, you can’t go wrong!     • Good cage for rats, shelves are tricky
I used this for a 2 groups of rats that needed to be separated because my old ladies are mean and grumpy. It'd be a great cage for a colony with no escapes. I'd imagine it'd be great for sugar gliders too with the small bar spacing and vertical space. Pros: Easy to assemble WITH TWO PEOPLE - you can do it alone but you don't want to Perfect size for all the toys, hammocks, etc. Nice stand and doors - love the doors and so do the rats REMOVABLE grate Good quality - a few parts were bent in shipping but were easy to pop back into place Doors that are hard for animals to open - LOL my rats are clever and learned how to open the door to their last cage Cons: Shelves are kind of a pain in the butt because they screw in instead of snap like most cages Ramps are steep and hard to click onto the shelves Horizontal bars are not something my rats enjoy climbing apparently - probably won't matter with other critters Tray is shallow on the bottom Overall, I'd say a 4.5/5. I'll probably replace the shelvesramps eventually because they are a big pain in the butt LOL but the rest of the cage is very nice. ... show more

    • Best cage I've ever purchased
Packaged well, and easy to assemble (some may find it difficult to assemble alone, may need another set of hands). The construction of the product is very nice. For some reason one leg seemed shorter than the other three during assembly but once the whole thing was assembled it leveled out, I'm not sure what that was about. I did have to fix a small piece - the wire was bent where the cage door touches the front panel, it looked like it had been bent during the packing process (not a defect). Other than that, the whole cage looks amazing and it's HUGE, which is why we got it. Purchased for one adult rat, going to get baby rats to keep him company so we needed the extra sq footage for more ratties. I definitely would not purchase this product for hamsters or anything smaller than a fancy rat, there are places in the cage that could become problematic for smaller mammals or pets. I would not put anything larger than a ferret in it. Also, keep in mind the bottom is wire, this is not a tray bottom cage. Hope this review helps, we spent a week looking at cages before we decided on this one. This cage is probably the best cage I've ever purchased and I've been buying small pet cages for over 20 years. ... show more
