Description

The POWERTEC UT1002 Universal tool stand with split MDF top is perfect for using a vast array of smaller, compact bench-top machines, power tools and accessories. Constructed of heavy gauge steel with an expandable 14" By 25" Split MDF top to accommodate a wide variety of different sized tools. This stand has a load capacity of 500 lbs. I ordered a 9" bandsaw and needed a stand. After reviewing several here and from other sellers, I decided on the POWERTEC UT1002 Universal Tool Stand. As I was using it for a bandsaw, I ordered it with the WEN foot switch (glad I did as I love it too). The stand is relatively easy to assemble. As instructed I assembled the 2 longer sides first, leaving the hardware loose. Then attached the brackets for the shorter ends, thus adjoining the long sides. I did use wood glue to join the two top pieces together (hopefully strengthening them also). As I glued them, I used a pair of clamps to keep them together. I didn't have any problems with the included hardware. The two lower shelf pieces, I attached to the rails (there are holes already drilled) using some 10x32 hardware I had. I think that made the legs stiffer than with those pieces loose. After I had it together, I sprayed the top down with polyurethane. The next day I attached the bandsaw. As I wanted to be able to move it around the shop, I used the saw to cut out some scrap wood and attach some casters. I used a set of casters I already had (the kind similar to those on common desk chairs). I'm completely satisfied with the stand and would buy it again. No it might not be suitable for a really heavy tool, but for this bandsaw it's perfect. Great stand for the money; a real value! ... show more

On the unit I received, everything fit well, with no missing parts. A good start! The instructions were clear, though a few more pictures would have enhanced the readability. A little heavier gauge steel for the frame would’ve been nicer, but if you put everything together right it seems to work. The biggest flaw is the two-piece MDF top. The gap down the middle is inconvenient, but worse than that the gap prevents the top from making the whole unit rigid. Similarly the split MDF lower shelf is too flexible. If throw away the MDF they provide for the top and replace it with 3/4 inch plywood like I (and many others, apparently) did, you have a pretty good equipment stand. ... show more

Product is solid save for the MDF boards which can easily be upgraded, which I did. Had some sturdy leftover deck boards I used for a top board. Very solid. Also reinforced the lower tray from underneath since it was bowing. I will likely replace the lower tray with plywood also. Did I mention I really dislike MDF? Anyway I will put a jointer or similar tool on it. I’m happy. ... show more

I had difficulty assembling the stand because the 5/16"-18 Nuts & 5/16"-18 x 2" Hex Head Bolts are not standad sizes. The standard minimum width across the flats for a 5/16" nut is 0.489". As you can see from the photo, the supplied nuts are 0.4655" across the flats. The 2" bolt heads are the same. A 1/2" wrench will not work. I used a 12mm wrench & socket to assemble the stand. You also need a 1/2" wrench because the 5/16"-18 x 2-1/2" Hex Head Half Thread Bolts & 5/16"-18 Nylon Lock Nuts are standard size. One 5/16" split lock washer was missing. The washers supplied with the tool stand are smaller and thinner than standard washers. The bolts for the Caster Assembly are too short. They need to be 2-1/4" long, not the 2" bolts supplied. The nuts were difficult to start due to the bolts being too short. You can see from the second photo, the nuts are not full of threads when tight. Tools also needed for assembly are a #3 Phillips Screwdriver for the top screws; the Leveler Assemblies need a 9/16" open-end wrench & 5mm allen wrench to adjust. These are not called out in the assembly instructions. The 5/8" open wrench listed in the instructions doesn't fit anything on my stand. There were minor paint flaws on the shelf. It looks like a study tool stand. I'm going to mount a vise & use it with my knife sharpener. I want to keep the debris from sharpening away from my work area. ... show more

This is the 3rd PowerTEC tool stand I purchased from Amazon, and I will be ordering more. I am extremely satisfied with it. One stand is being used for a HD Sears 12” Planer, the second for a 24” slip roller and the most recent 200 lb. metal notcher. I build a platform base out of ¾” plywood that was slightly larger than the leg base with a lipped edge (furring strips) to prevent the stand from moving off the base. I added 4 HD locking swivel rollers purchased from Home Depot and placed the stand on top. It is extremely easy to move these tables around my shop and pull these out as needed and simply lock them in place, which reduces the footprint that would otherwise be needed to operate them in their own area. Some have commented on how it is shipped and does not arrive in one piece. I don’t blame that on the product as the boxes they are shipped in are designed for a palletized LTL shipment and not a small package world. The fulfillment center that actually puts the label on the package may need to overpack it depending on the carrier selected for the movement. ... show more

The holes in the metal frame all line up correctly, but it is twisted once assembled. The wood pieces did not fit correctly and had to be forced into place with a rubber mallet. The 2 wood pieces for the top did not line up correctly for the pre drilled holes and are not functioning properly either. Directions for assembly are trash and not worth the paper they are written on. Not satisfied at all with this product. Box was torn open upon receiving it,I assembled it today to be sure all parts were with it upon me receiving it. All parts were there, if they weren't it might help explain why it is so messed up.
