UPDATE: there was another firmware update that greatly improved wireless CarPlay and while it glitches from time to time it is definitely an improvement over the previous firmware and works reasonably well. That said, I’d give this 3.5 stars, though Amazon doesn’t allow half stars. We purchased this for a 2,500 mile roadtrip—our 2014 Subaru Outback does not have Carplay—so we were able to put this through its paces. NOTE: the first thing I did was to update the firmware from the manufacturer's website (6/13/2022). PROs: - it was easy to install and came with a variety of mounting options - the screen is large and easy to read (see CONs, though) - it can play external media via a microSD card, but the formats are limited (e.g., no M4A support) - Carplay works reasonably well (albeit in wired mode; more on that in the CONs) - it is powered by USB-C; no "ancient" mini USB, here - the screen has pretty good viewing angles—it's easy to see from either the driver or passenger sides CONs: - in our experience, wireless mode was too unstable to use; voice directions were often garbled or truncated; for some reason Google Maps worked better than Apple Maps, too, on this front - while the wired connection works best, when using navigation, it slowly drains the phone; so, while it does power the phone, it is not enough to keep up with the drain (NOTE: when using just audio—no navigation—it is able to charge a phone, albeit slowly) - the screen is too dim in the daytime, even when adjusting the brightness/contrast; this is especially problematic when wearing sunglasses - the Bluetooth audio quality is not that great; it's fine for voice announcements/directions, but music sounded like it had no mids—just highs and lows; we tested our phones directly with the car's BT and it sounded fine, so we attributed this to the device; we also tried adjusting the audio EQ on the device but it really did not help - it is slow to boot—about 30 seconds—and without the ability to use a 1/8" (3.5 mm) jack for audio (like similar devices have), you have to use the FM tuner, so if you do not turn down your stereo prior to shutting off the car, you'll be blasted by static until the device boots and the FM transmitter kicks in - the FM transmitter works OK, but there is still static in the background; we know this was not because of crowded spectrum because we were in the middle of the mountains and it was still present - the Mirror Link feature was laughably inadequate; the app is terrible and when it worked, it was so sluggish as to be useless - the mounting mechanism is pretty flimsy and on my first attempt to connect it, one of the clasps broke - the buttons are hard to push and move the device when you press them, which is frustrating (e.g., the mount is not very stiff) So, we rate this as three stars due to: - audio quality issues - brightness issues - the lack of stable wireless Carplay - other features not working as advertised All of that said, for the price and the convenience of adding Carplay to older vehicles, I'd say it is worth the price—when on sale—especially if these issues can be remedied via firmware updates. ... show more

  • Excellent customer service and good product
First of all, the excellent customer service is the main reason I am writing this review. The device installed ok and worked fine for what I needed, making a 10 yrs old car more modern. The hardest install step for me was placement and after many tries I ended up with a CD player based gps holder. After a few months of usage my bt connection was not working. After trying different phones I confirmed the issue was with unit. Very disappointed I figured I would give it a shot and call the company. Was I ever surprised by the rapid et efficient response. Got a firmware link download within hours with easy instructions and unit is back in action. Bravo ... show more

  • Works good so far only had one day.
Works good so far will see how long it lasts. I’m not doubting it but it’s only been one day. I bought a cd slot mount and mounted the screen right to that. In my truck I don’t really have a good spot for the mount so I needed a different mount for it. Be sure to mount at a slightly upward angle like your car radio is installed at to eliminate glare. It’s nice that it’s wireless. Wife asked how she could get wireless CarPlay in hers I said probably can’t but CarPlay is built in for her wired. I do have wired CarPlay but less wires for me the better. I will use wired when going on a long distance and using the map so as to be able to get a quicker response. I installed this on a 2016 f250 super duty. I don’t have navigation or anything so this helps with that and better sound then my little fm transmitter. If your looking for a nice way with a budget to add CarPlay to your older car or even newer car that doesn’t have CarPlay this is the way! If you have an fm radio, 12v outlet near said radio, and a way to mount it, i recommend it so far. It makes a difference and I don’t even have to plug in as mentioned. Minimal wires having to be exposed and usb and micro sd card slot gives you More options! Hit a good pothole lol and it bounced a bit on the mount I bought, to be expected but nothing else happened. ... show more

  • A Good Buy, If Somewhat Limited
I bought this product because my car did not have an auxiliary input or a USB input to plug a phone into and this would help with that. It is super easy to install (taking less then a minute) and the display looks good, though it does come across as a tad dark during the day even at full brightness. It takes roughly about 30 seconds to fully boot up which can be annoying sometimes but works seamlessly with Apple CarPlay. My biggest criticism is it as far as FM transmitters go, this is a relatively weak one (though there might just be a lot of radio traffic in my area) and I almost always have some static when playing music or podcasts via Bluetooth from my phone which can range from slightly annoying to rendering the music very hard to hear. I’ve since switched to using a Roav FM transmitter for music (since it is much stronger and clearer) while displaying my maps or Spotify layout on this screen. It also works well with things like calls and Bluetooth texting. Who is this would best suit—> Someone who already has an aux input in their car but would like to also add on visual Car Play (or android car play) capabilities. ... show more
