    • Easy to setup and quiet (sometimes).

Well packaged, easy to setup (15-20 min.), and it's lot quieter than my previous window mount unit. The things I don't like are the remote, follow me function, and the window kit weather stripping which is why I gave it 4/5 stars. The remote isn't backlit and the icons are very hard to see. I looked through the manual and didn't see an option to turn it on but I could have missed it. The follow me function doesn't control the room temperature very well. This unit is in a small bedroom I use as an office. I have two computers going and it tends to heat up pretty quick. I turned the follow me function on and put the remote on the opposite side of the room. In this mode, the remote sends an update every 20 minutes. If I set the AC temp at 77 F, the room will heat up to around 80-82 F before the AC kicks on (sometimes the fan stays running, sometimes it stops). Once the AC kicks on it will cool the room down to 75 F which is colder than the setpoint of 77 F. So I keep getting these temperature swings of either to hot or to cold. If I could adjust the update rate to 10 minutes I think the temperature control would work a lot better. The window kit frame and hose is good but the included weather stripping isn't. The wide thin stuff with the sticky side is twice the width of the window kit frame and the dark grey foam stuff is a joke. After installation, there's still a small gap between the side of the window kit frame that touches the window. I think that the sticky weather stripping should have been 1/2"x1/2" instead of 1 1/2"x 1/16" so I'm going to replace that. Bottom line, it's a good AC unit for the price and I'm happy with the purchase. -Update (after about a month of use) When the fan is running it's fine but when the fan is running and the AC compressor kicks in there is a rattle coming from the inside back left middle area of the unit. I've tried removing the filter cover and pressing around the area but I can't make it go away. It gets pretty annoying if I don't have my headphones on so I may have to dive in a bit deeper. Yesterday, after running the unit a little harder (cooling set at 72 F vs 77 F) the internal storage tank filled up after running for a couple of hours. I was surprised how small the internal storage tank is when I drained it so I may have to setup the continuous draining method if it becomes a regular occurrence. ... show more

    • Great for spot-correcting hot rooms without a full window install

Having a mostly south-facing house, a couple rooms tend to overheat: the guest bedroom, and my home office. The HVAC system wasn't built to target specific rooms and is rather inefficient, so I'd been looking for a way to deliver targeted air conditioning to these rooms on an as-needed basis without requiring a full window install. So far, this item fits the bill. I've had it running in my office now for a while. The south-facing windows get MAJOR sun here in Florida for multiple hours a day, and I've got a lot of computers in here, so even if the rest of the house is 70° this room can reach 80° or higher. Even in the winter, if the heat is on to keep the rest of the house livable, it can get REALLY warm in here. Well, time for a portable AC! Setup and install was easy. Used the foam inserts to secure the seals on the now permanently-open window. It's at the front of the house but the window space required is a flat frame and is not obvious from the outside, though I will have to figure out a new security option since the secure window lock is no longer usable. Settings on the device are sane and nothing crazy. There's a wifi option but I haven't used it. Cooling is loud, but honestly, not too bad and worth it while it's on. Once it's at temp the actual cooling only happens sporadically (VERY small room when the doors are closed) and it's very quick to cool, so not concerned about loud sounds. For example, I've got it on now at night, and my white noise fan is louder than the AC (not cooling) fan. If I end up keeping it in here permanently I'd be able to give up the white noise fan in favor of the AC in fan-mode (or cooling mode, in the cases where I need to close the office doors overnight (which is never??)). As for other miscellany: unpacking was easy, just cut the straps and lift the box out. Hypothetically the box could be used for storage but the unit has wheels so it'll probably just get wheeled around into closets when necessary. Overall quite pleased with both the ease of installation and the immediate cooling provided post install. Great stuff! ... show more
