I had never owned a portable air conditioner and really knew little about them. My only research consisted of comparing features and prices of different models, as well as those of window units. I came across this model from PQH and kept coming back to it as I compared others. I decided to try it and am glad I did. The price is comparable to less powerful units. It can also serve as a fan or dehumidifier and has a host of panel features (low/high fan speeds, temperature setting, up/down oscillating angle, 24-hour timer, sleep mode). For my lazy self, it includes a remote. The unit arrived earlier than expected and was easy to set up. I did have to cut a little off of the window hose panel to adjust for smaller windows, but that wasn't a problem. It has four convenient coasters for moving the unit around and a removable air filter for cleaning. The noise is actually less than I expected for a 10000 BTU and what I would describe as similar to white noise. The best part is that it cools better than I anticipated. Much better.     • Super simple setup and very effective unit
This unit works really well and creates cool air immediately upon turning on. It doesn't take up much floor space and has rollers pre-installed so it is easy to move around (within the limits of it being attached to the heat exhaust hose though). It has the necessary functions of a swiveling vent (up and down), timer, temperature control, control lock (child lock?), and even a mode specifically for dehumidifying. I opted to set this up to continuously drain and it filled up a 4 gallon bucket in about 8 hours. It has a mode where it will automatically shut off if the internal water tank fills up (at which point you will need to drain it, but this is easy assuming you're close to something to drain into). It is about as loud as other comparable units I've used, so I think it is something you can get used to. A small trade off for the cool air! ... show more

    • Ready for a hot Texas summer!
Having never owned a portable AC before, I was quite skeptical about the effectiveness of one. But with many of them on Amazon priced below $300, I figured it's worth a shot. After making tons of comparisons between many different brands and models, I zeroed in on this PQH Portable AC that has a good balance of price, customer ratings/reviews and product features. When it showed up at my door the next day, I went to work on putting it together immediately. The whole process took about 45 minutes – 20 minutes on the unit itself and 25 minutes on the window piece installation. The included User Guide isn't the best set of instructions I've come across, but it gives me a general idea of the process. Once put together, I turned the AC on and my skepticism quickly dissipated as this strong stream of cold air hit my face. (And it was still on the lowest setting!) I’m truly impressed with this product's cooling power – set at 70°, I felt a considerable temperature shift in my 650-sq-ft bedroom after only 10 minutes. The only downside I noticed right away is the noise level it was putting out. It's really not as quiet as you might be expecting. Luckily, I'm used to white noise and this won't affect my ability to fall asleep. I have yet to test all the other features, but so far this portable AC has earned a 5-star review from me. It is solidly-built yet very portable. It cools the room effectively. And it is priced very competitively for products in this class. I bought this unit after it got rave reviews from a family member. My studio has an old wall unit that really struggles in the summer heat and supplimenting that unit with this one has been nothing short of a miracle as far as cooling is concerned. My little place is absolutly POLAR right now and I am loving it. The unit has 3 cooling options (high, low and fan) a dehumidifier option, sleep timer and an up/down oscillation setting. It is relatively quite, has a low space profile for what it provides and was easy to set up. The only complaint I have is that the kit for installing the "exhaust tube" could use some more window mounting options, but it is working perfectly for my purposes.     • Really really cold. Works great.
I have this unit in an upstairs bedroom on the side of the house that gets the most sun and it can get over 80* up there despite the rest of the house being 70. The output is incredible, it will turn an average sized bedroom into an ice box in a couple minutes. I even have to turn off the unit sometimes because of how cold my room gets. The noise isn't overwhelming and it was fairly easy to install thanks to the instructions and the window kit that came with it.
