  • Great quality for price, and simple to use!
Small background: I am a home music producer and work with my friends on various music and recording hobbies. I often like to take in field sounds to use as samples in my work, and also recording music via my phone and pc. Overall, I really enjoy this mic and it has a pretty solid and sturdy design. The clip is made of what seems to be a steel die cast metal and does not seem like it would be prone to easy wear and tear from constant use. So far I have used this mic to record song ideas whenever I get a spark of inspiration, to record a reading as practice for monologue and podcast work, and for just recording instrumental parts. It is wonderful for these specific activities because of how simple it is to use, you just connect the aux cord to your phone ( I have an iphone 7, so must use the dongle as well ), open the program you wish to record in (voice memo app) and record as normal. No setup, no need to sync anything, and no apps or anything to use it, just plug and go. Quality: The sound quality of this mic is super clear and sounds very clean and flat. It does a decent job of picking up the ambient noise of rooms, but seems to be able to suppress background noise like tv. I would rate the quality of the mic on par with the apple headphones and on board mic for my iphone. There was no static noticeable in any of the recordings I took to test the mic. It is sensitive enough to pick up a guitar very clearly (when clipped to shirt collar) with great distinct tone of the different strings, both acoustic and electric, which was a nice surprise. The clip of the mic has a nice strong spring the ensures that the mic isn't going anywhere, and it is super solid for the price. The mic comes with a felt carrying pouch, a computer aux cord port adapter to hook it up and use with a PC, and even 3 extra mic muffs. It comes with a black one, yellow one, and a red one. I have not tried using the other colored mic muffs as I cannot see any noticeable difference in how they may affect recording quality. All in all, I really enjoy this mic and look forward to getting a lot of use out of it! It's going to be a really fun addition to my music production! ... show more

  • Smartphone vidoes require better audio
The media could not be loaded. I am pleasantly surprised. This is plug-and-play. No apps or special drivers needed. Very easy. As a video guy, I have become increasingly impressed by the quality of smartphone videos. Because of this, I have been using my smartphone for videos more and more. However, audio is usually the BIG downfall. To fix this problem I picked up Pop Voice's wired lavalier lapel mic. This small microphone allows me to live stream from my Android (s7) to most any social media app such as Facebook and Periscope with crystal clear audio. It was important to me to better my audio beyond that of which the built-in microphone on the smartphone can deliver. Attached to this review is a video. Watch it and listen to the difference between me using the lavalier mic and when I didn't the difference is night and day. There is no comparison. I am very happy with the quality that this mic has brought me. About the microphone itself, the cable is 6.5ft so it's long enough to meet most needs. Since my arm probably isn's more than 3' long, that's all the wire throw I need. The built-in quality is great. It is an omnidirectional condenser mic. (Go do your own research.) The clip is sturdy. Once it is clipped on, it will stay. The microphone itself is small enough that most people probably will not notice it if you are on camera when streaming. If you don't care if it is seen or not, they give you a couple colored windscreens (i.e. yellow and red) which are fun. They also throw in an extra black one, which is very cool of them. Tips: It's usually best to hide the cord under clothing. Place the mic on the chest near the head-- it doesn't have to be too close the mouth at all. Middle chest area is great. If you are a heavy breather, you may attach the mic upside down on your shirt to avoid the sound of you breathing into the mic. ... show more

  • Finally better audio than the mic on my phone for youtube videos
So I've been making youtube videos for nearly a decade and use my phone to record both audio and video. This is fine for the most part, but my new phone has stereo mics and the problem is when I have the phone set up to do overhead shots off to one side the audio is recorded only on one side which is rather irritating. The problem is made worse if I move at all, it sounds like the audio is wandering. So I figured it was time to finally get an external mic that I could clip to me to solve both these problems. This lavalier mic popped up when I searched and was around mid-range in terms of price. I didn't want to get something super cheap but also didn't want to spend a lot so it was a good compromise at $10. So far I've made two videos using this mic and here is what I've found: Pros: - very sensitive, can pick up subtle sounds like intonation in my voice my phone mic couldn't - comes with actual useful accessories like extra wind/pop filters, a nice velveteen bag to hold everything, a 4 to 3 pin adapter to use mic with both modern and older recording hardware - the clip is metal, this is huge as the clip is likely the part that would break first in these types of mics - super long cord, must be over 6 feet long so I can be a comfortable distance away and still be heard clearly - the mic itself seems modular and well made, pieces unscrew easily enough which is good should I ever need to fix anything Cons: - the bass is a little thin, but for such a small mic I kind of expected this - comes with a nice velcro wire wrap to keep cord nice and from tangling but it isn't attached to the wire so it will be very easy to lose (in fact when I first unboxed it, the little guy fell on the floor and rolled under my desk) So that is about it, from the two videos I used it for it is definitely an improvement over using a phone's internal mic and I am happy with the $10 investment in it. It isn't a high end wide dynamic range mic nor is it a super cheap tinny mic. It is a solid mic perfect for a youtuber who wants good value and decent audio quality without having to invest a lot. ... show more
