We aren't using the grommets, but the way they are situated is really nice. This is a nice heavy weight tarp that I think will hold up much better than my prior cover. To be fair though, I don't think any cover could resist being punctured by falling branches from some of the crazy storms we have had in the northeast. But this cover seems to have extra reinforcement along the edges which is where I had most problems with my old over. There is an extra piece of strong fabric that wraps around the edge and is well stitched, not just a fold that may be glued in place. The grommets go through all 3 layers so I expect this will hold up nicely. The price for this is actually fair compared to the local pool store. ... show more

Over the last winter, the cover that came with our pool failed. As a result, we spent a great deal of time and chemicals getting it back in shape. So it was time for a new cover. If you’ve got an above ground pool, this has either happened to you, or it looms on the horizon, because covers don’t last forever. If you’re cruising Amazon looking for a cover, the first thing you’ll notice about this one is that it’s expensive. And the first question that should pop into your head is why. There’s two objective measures of cover quality, scrim and weight. Higher is better for both, and result is a more durable product. Another seller has several levels of product quality. Their best has 12 scrim and 3.26 oz/sq yd weight. This one has 14 scrim, and when you convert their metric weight for comparison, it comes out to 5.46. It’s a huge upgrade over the other vendor’s “best” cover. These covers come with a two year warranty, and the expectation they’ll last substantially longer. The one that came with our pool, which was bottom of the line, failed in its 3rd winter. So I’m expecting to get 5 years out of this. When you divide the cost over that period, and consider what you’ll spend in time and chemicals if your cover fails, it’s actually a bargain. ... show more
