  • Kinda disappointed and it's pricey.
If you can't read the screen in that picture it says "Didn't detect another display". It worked fine for usb-c to usb-c but that's the only way you're going to be able to get this to work, and yeah I know it's been around for a while but not every person who might need to connect to a dock is going to have usb-c connections on their machines. And yes I know it's advertised as usb-c and that's why I'm giving it four stars instead of three. This is device is all about the power delivery at the sacrifice of compatibility. For what this costs at about 190.00 at the time of this review, I'd connect my laptop's regular power adapter and get a usb hub style of dock that has dual video and ethernet and whatever other slots you need. It'll work just as well, on more devices, with no bulky ac adapter, with fewer hassles and at probably less than a quarter of the cost. I got it working on a dell laptop connected via the usb-c cable - which btw is the only cable that's included besides the enormous power brick that's about the same size of the dock (and btw, the cable from the brick to the dock is only about 43" long which wasn't long enough to go from the floor to where the dock is located so the brick now resides on the desktop taking up space). Had to download the display drivers from pluggable's site, but it did eventually work. Had another user with an older dell XPS laptop with no usb-c so we tried a usb-a highspeed data cable that should've worked for video but it didn't. Tried everything, and everything else on the dock worked fine, ethernet, flash drives, everything but the video. Just really disappointed that this is limited to usb-c only, and that it's so expensive for what it is. We need docks that are backwards compatible and we've got a bunch of other pluggable docks here that we've had pretty good luck with over the years, which mostly came with both usb-a and usb-c cables to connect them to machines so I was kinda hoping for the best. ... show more

  • Great dock, just needs to include an USB-A cable
Gone are the heavyweight docks of yesteryear and in comes Plugables lightweight dock with a plethora of features. It has HDMI, Displayport, dual USB-3.1 10Gbps ports, 4x USB-3.0 ports, a rather large 5.5 amp power adapter, gigabit ethernet, 60W USB-C laptop charging connection port, dual security lock slots for daisy chaining, a 3.5mm audio jack & a rather gracious front panel USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 10Gbpd port. The USB-C portd are Thunderbolt compatible as well. You'd be hard pressed to find a dock with more features. The one thing it seems to be missing is a 100w+ laptop connection port for beefier laptops that demand more power instead of a standard 60w. It comes with a single USB-C to USB-C cable so if you're using it to connect to something that doesn't have a USB-C port then you'll have to get a actual USB-C to USB-A cable that supports video output since most of the small adapters don't. Those cables can be somewhat pricey so watch out. Connecting everything is simple. The dock automatically powers on when you connect the power supply, but you can turn it off using the power button if you're not ready. Windows finds the drivers instantly, but it never hurts to visit the manufacturer site to get the latest, especially with displayport docks. Everything runs smooth. No annoying hiccups like ghosting or other noticeable slowdown. You can't really go wrong buying this dock. Even at the current price point it is still cheaper than most OEM docks while having more if not the same amount of features. ... show more

  • Sent it back
This didn't work on my laptop and I had to send it back.

  • good for dual monitors
I got this to drive dual 4k monitors with my new laptop. The only problem I had is my USB-C port on the laptop does not support the bandwidth to drive both at 4k. It works fine for my other laptop though.

  • Great general use USB-C dock
I've tried countless USB-C docking stations, looking for one that I can stick with and recommend. This model by Plugable has proven to be great for general computing use. The connection via the included USB-C cable provides a single data and power connection to the laptop. The 60W output is sufficient and doesn't bring up any warnings on my laptop. Some higher-performance laptops with higher standard charging power requirements may bring up a notification about being connected to a low-power charger, but I didn't have that issue with my Lenovo or Surface. The dual-monitor video support has been the most difficult thing to find a "always works" solution with the various docking stations I've tried. This Plugable model has had no issues (monitors always turn on, screen position "number" doesn't get randomly rearranged, colors and saturation always look good). The USB ports work well for me; in fact, better than most other brands. Having four USB-A ports in the back is great for connecting my (1) mouse receiver, (2) wired keyboard, (3) USB camera, and (4) printer. Some of the other docking stations only had 2 or 3 ports in the back, so I had cables coming out of the front of the dock. Overall, I highly recommend this docking station. ... show more
