  • Heats as well as our $3500 Jøtul gas log!
Style: Vent
First of all this five star stove is dog approved. We love the fact that there was no need to install an external vent or chimney. The stove was placed on our drafty, uninsulated back porch to allow us to utilize this space during these bitter cold NY winter days. The size of this space is 20 ft x 16 ft. Today started out at 10 deg. F on the porch, measured with a digital thermometer. One hour later it’s now at 66 deg and being regulated by the built in thermostat. We initially installed the stove (with optional blower) using a 20 lb propane tank and regulated flexible gas line to determine best location and functionality. Everything worked as advertised. I’ve read reviews here that state the positioning of the thermostat control is a bit inconvenient, being placed so low...and I’d have to agree. However, once the stove pilot is lit and stable you simply crank up the thermostat. Please note that the flame height is not adjustable when you follow the instructions and regulate the gas pressure between 11 and 14 inches of water column. The thermostat knob controls only the shutoff temperature measured at the back of the stove. We set our temperature with the aid of a digital thermometer place away from the stove location. Once the room gets warmed near 65 deg, we turn the knob slowly clockwise until you hear a click from the main gas valve which shut off the gas flow and the flame goes out. Easy Peasy. At night we crank the knob down to very near the pilot lighting position leaving the pilot lit for the next day. We were so impressed with the functionality of this stove that I had a second dedicated, 100 gallon propane tank installed. Finally, this stove is well built and an awesome value for the price. ... show more

  • Affordably priced, nice unit!
Style: Vent
We bought this stove to replace an old gas insert that was very questionably installed (and I was therefore afraid to even turn on). For the price, I don't think you can find a better looking or more functional gas stove. The look is very clean and goes with basically any decor. The logs are of decent quality and the flame pattern is nice. It was easy to hook up and convert from propane to gas. We didn't get a blower, but really don't feel it is necessary, as it keeps our living room very cozy. The unit is warm to the touch, with the exception of the front grate , which of course does get hot. I agree with other reviews about the controls...the photo makes them appear very visible, but they are actually quite discrete, set under the unit. My only critique is that while the control has 5 settings, we have really only seen it achieve 2-3 distinct intensity levels. The gas line has been dormant for a while, so we're not sure if this is due to air in the system, or the unit itself. But for the price, we are very pleased overall. ... show more

  • Heats SO Much Space!
Style: Vent
First of all this little guy is a workhorse! I had my own apartment built onto my mom’s house last year and I had an extra natural gas line patched into the living room, but didn’t get the fireplace until this year. The living room is downstairs and the gas line is at the bottom of the stairs. As you go up the stairs, the apartment opens up into a spacious half-wall that connects the kitchen, hallway, bathroom, and bedroom. Since heat rises, this little guy heats up the entire apartment no problem, to the point where I sleep with two windows cracked open because it gets too warm even on the lowest setting! It regulates itself well, and I’m so glad not to have to use the electric heating baseboards like I did last year. Still have yet to get my first gas/electric bill, but I’m sure I will be pleasantly surprised! Just a note: I did connect this to the gas line myself and have never done anything like it before. I couldn’t figure out why no gas was going through the line when I would open it, until I realized that the fireplace unit itself comes with a small threaded blocker attached to the connector that has to be removed and it doesn’t tell you that in the instructions. Simple fix and I felt kind of silly after frogging around with it for a while, but other than that just follow the instructions and you’ll have no problem! Enjoy! ... show more

  • Wonderful, but
Style: Vent
This is a great little heater. I love the aesthetics of the fire and it heats our great room (390 sq ft) really well in cold PA winters. The only thing that's bad is that the controls are tucked in under the bottom of it so you have to get down on the floor to adjust the heat. Otherwise, perfect.

  • Awesome !
Style: Vent
Great little stove. Puts off great heat. Perfect for my sunroom which is approx 600 sq ft. Easy installation. Only thing was there is a threaded cap screw on the regulators. I did not see that anywhere in the directions. Also it takes a big T5, or stAr patterned wrench to remove it. Not just aN Allen wrench or socket I got it all installed real easily and pilot wouldn’t light and then figured out I I needed to remove this safety screw. Then she started right up. Heats room up quickly. Love the auto temp control. I have it set to around 2. And it turns on and off ass needed. Makes my 3 season room a year round room now ! ... show more

  • 20000 btu is enough for me.
Style: Vent
I hooked this into my 1500 sq foot old house (built in 1910) that can be a little chilly. As the sole source of heat it took my first floor from 55 to 70 in 45 minutes. I haven't experienced the need for a blower. It circulates well as is. The flooring below it stays cool to the touch. The top never gets hot enough to burn a hand. The heat is ejected out the front because of the firebox shape. It has 5 heat levels with a continuous dial. Even when it's below freezing I've never had to set it above 2. The onboard thermostat is very accurate. I have two thermometers at each corner of my house and they always stay in lockstep with one another. As a side note for those who were concerned like me, I keep a carbon monoxide meter in the same room and I've never seen it register above 0 ppm... ... show more

  • Great Value and worth the $
Style: Vent
This simple fireplace adds alot to a room! It heats very well (without blower) and looks great! I have a built in fireplace in my upstairs that doesnt even compare to the flame design and warmth that this one does. I was nervous purchasing with it being so cheap but it works great, and I'm glad it has the automatic thermostat ... show more
