  • Very happy with stove and quality
About all I can say is that it negative is that it is a bit on the heavy side. It was also a little bit difficult to find a local contractor to install it. Most places do not want to install something they did not sell you themselves. Once we found someone who was qualified to install it we have been nothing but delighted. We simply turned off our central heating, bought a fan to help the air circulate in the house and are totally delighted with the results. Keep in mind that we don't want places like the bedrooms too hot in our house so we keep those doors closed most of the time to promote a healthy (cold) sleeping temperature environment. It keeps our place far warmer than the central heating could without an absolutely ridiculous heating bill. This year we have cut our heating bill in half or more every month over last year (electrical/heating is in one bill so we still have an electric bill to deal with). But the real value is not just 'money' but rather, knowing that in an extended power outage we have heating totally covered. We have experienced a few more extended power outage over the last few years that left us absolutely freezing in the house since we were totally dependent on central air and electricity. This bought us peace of mind more than anything (I am also a gardener so it is important to me that my seed starts don't freeze in the house as well as several plants that I overwinter inside). Everyone in our family loves the stove and my adult daughter comes over more often to bask in the heat of it more often than she used to as we had to keep our house slightly more cold when we had central air. Now she can come over, grab the spot in the house closest to the stove and read with her kindle and relax whereas before she used to complain about the temperature of the house. It is just really nice and we are all loving it. I don't think it would burn all night like the super high efficiency stoves but if your family has a staggered schedule where one of you goes to be later than the others and others get up earlier this should be no problem to keep lit. We are tracking the amount of wood it uses ever day based on temperature so I don't have a count of wood that we use per day that is accurate for an entire winter season but this is what we have for the month of Nov-Dec. Avg temp is 50 F daytime 30 F nighttime and we are using an average of 6-7 logs per day at a cost of $0.25 cents per log $1.50-$1.75 [$45-$52.50 per month]. We haven't gotten into our coldest season yet so I am assuming it will double this total to $2.50-$3.00 per day [$75.00-$90.00 per month] for operation in the months of Jan and Feb. But keep in mind that this operating cost keeps the whole house warm and comfortable (except the bedrooms which as I said, we like colder) so we could not have done this with central air heating in the first place without a $300-$400 month heating bill. Having lived without heat for an entire winter season when I was younger, you can't put a real price on the security of knowing that you are going to be comfortable and warm in the coldest seasons as well as securing your food supply/overwintered garden plants. ... show more

  • Great wood stove with a crappy seal.
I bought this wood stove one year ago. The stove is our primary source of heat for the entire 2000sgft house in the mountains of Colorado. We have used it for one year and the stove works great. We get it burning really good and close down the dampers and it burns all night. My one complaint is some of the craftsmanship is not up to par. The accent trim pieces just come off they aren’t attached in any way. My biggest complaint is the seal for the door just fell off. The glue they used doesn’t last long or isn’t strong enough. So be prepared to fix that soon. ... show more

  • Great Heat, Good quality, puzzled by the review that claims it puts out no heat
I rarely write reviews but it surprised me to read a review on here talking about the low heat and poor quality of this unit. I don't see how its possible we are talking about the same thing. I put in a normal load of seasoned oak, and this unit heats my entire 2500 sq ft house to 75 degrees on a cold winter night. I turn my central heat OFF. And put a big pan of water on it as a humidifier which steams away over night. The heat shields protect the wall behind it 18" away and I didn't even anything on the regular painted sheetrock. The wall is warm to the touch when the stove is at full heat but not the wall is not hot. This is a great stove. I don't see how the review on here about low/little heat etc can be talking about this unit. ... show more

  • Really poor quality! Don't believe all the positive posts.
I have Excellent chimney airflow and had a previous pellet stove in my house that I replaced this wood stove with. I even had the pipes professionally installed and a permit pulled, everything passed.... the problem completely exist with the stove itself. The ventilation is terrible, the ash plug in the base of the box didn't even last through two days of use before the fiberglass gasket detached. The ash plug in the bottom of the box let's air in which accelerates the burn rate and is impossible to close unless you cement seal it, which defeats the purpose. I have a 20 year old Lopi that functions 10 times better than this Ashley stove! I will sell it used for about $500 used, that is if I can find anyone to buy it. Also one brick was cracked upon arrival. The stove is setting of smoke alarms in my home day & night. I NEVER had Any issues until buying this stove. Total mistake! ... show more

  • Dampers may be faulty
Purchased this stove last winter. Couldn't close it off. Dampers did NOT work. Hubby took ash drawer out and looked inside upward, took damper area apart. Realized large gaps were not sealed up where damper should have closed off in the front and in the back area. Used gasket rope to seal off gaps where a plate or something should have been. Also, there was a lip of metal that kept damper from coming back to close it off. After hubby sealed off and adjusted the dampers like it should have been, this stove is so efficient. Evidently, the issues got missed on the assembly line and could have caused a major fire. Before he fixed what was missed you couldn't put more than 2 sticks of wood in it. Now, we can put 3-4 overnighters in and tweek 1 damper and it burns slowly and have nice bed of coals in the morning. If anyone buys this and it Will Not shut down when dampers are closed you could end up with a major fire. Thank God my hubby is a metal worker/welder and knows how to handle and cut metal + he has always used wood for heat!!! ... show more

  • Best wood burner ever for the money!
I installed this stove in the basement (walkout) of my 2 story 3000 sqft home in the mountains. It heats the entire house as long as I keep the basement door to the up stairs open. (heat rises) It is very heavy (about 375 lbs) but it retains the heat and releases it hours after the fire is out. Take the time to read the owners manual. This stove needs to come up to temperature before it produced a smokeless discharge and then you can damper it down without creating creosote and blackening the glass. (and it will burn off) Dry wood only and do not use any wax containing fire starters in it. I start it with the top down method and it works like a charm. I have a heat activated fan (no power needed) as a backup for power failures. Love it! ... show more
