  • It makes ice cream.
Style: Ice Cream Maker
I fought my wife on buying this thing. I'm glad that she did it anyways in retrospect. I had visions of this ball taking up space in my cabinets for years without us ever using it, however, it has made quite a bit of ice cream. I use it now more than her. I like that the container is only one pint, so I'm not making a whole lot at once. It doesn't take a lot of ingredients to turn out some decent ice cream. It's surprisingly fun. You fill the bottom with ice and salt. You fill the top with heavy cream or coconut cream or whatever -add sugar and cocoa powder or vanilla and it turns out pretty damn good every time. I grew up with automatic ice cream makers and ice cream makers that had like a gel pack and all kinds of silly things with crank handles because my dad had dreams of making his own cream at home but he never really did. These things collected dust. Store bought ice cream is perfectly good. The whole idea of making ice cream to me sounds like a miserable chore. Because it's a ball, it doesn't really feel like work and we just started eating the concoctions straight out of the ball which is fine. I was wrong to argue with her when she wanted to buy this. Im converted. You should buy one. Or don't. I don't care. ... show more

  • Kids have a blast
Style: Ice Cream Maker
Great way to keep the kids busy for 20-30 mins. “If you want ice cream, keep rolling it!” The screw caps leak a bit if you don’t wipe them clean between stirrings. Other than that, we enjoy it.

  • Surprised at how well it works
Style: Ice Cream Maker
Following their easy direction, I was surprised at how well this worked. Also, how quickly it made the ice cream. Grandsons, 5 and 2, had fun with it.

  • A lot of effort for ice cream.
Style: Ice Cream Maker
I wanted to like this ball, and it does work, but it was so much effort (and mess) that I don't think it was worth the cost. It leaks when rolling it, and it was SO hard to get the ice cream off the cylinder because of how deep and narrow it is. I also agree with other reviewers who said the middle is like soup and the outside layer is rock hard when the ice cream is done. It's a cool concept, but so much work, and my kids (3 and 6) got bored mixing it before 20 minutes were up. Would not buy again. ... show more

  • Used in school for a chemical change demonstration

This is my second one of these and students enjoy rolling and shaking the ball and then reaping the rewards.

  • Missing a lid!
Style: Ice Cream Maker
I bought this early for a Christmas gift. We just opened it with the expectation that we would make ice cream for a Christmas Eve dessert. After opening, we discovered it was missing one of the lids! So it was unable to close off the end that holds the ice and rock salt! Completely unusable and very disappointed! ... show more
