  • My favorite filter so far
Color: Blue Size: 1L
I've been reading reviews on this product since it came on the market, and I picked my first one up about 8 months ago. I was ready to be underwhelmed, but it turned out to be the fastest filter I've ever used. There are countless reviews that talk about painfully slow flow rates out of the box, but that wasn't the case with either of the ones I purchased (I bought another one recently for the misses). If you're getting poor performance right away, I'd suggest replacing it immediately. Quality control does not seem to be strong here, at least according to the reviews. Things I love about this product: • Lightning fast flow rate. Honestly, I thought it was defective because it started pouring water out the clean end almost as fast as I could turn it over after attaching a bag. I've owned just about every sawyer filter on the market, and none of them even touched the flow rate of this filter. I don't understand it. The integrity test implies that my filters are working fine. • I can seal it up. Both ends of the filter close up completely, so I can toss it in my sleeping back on a freezing night and not have to worry about destroying my filter Things I don't love: • The output is just FINE. I can drink from it. I can hover over a bottle and it does a reasonably good job getting all the water into, and not out of that bottle. I CANNOT easily fill up a platypus bag. It's not really designed to fill any kind of reservoir. I know this is a squeeze bag and not a gravity filter, so I'm not knocking any stars off for what it wasn't designed to do. However, I do have a little trick where I take a modified Platypus bite valve, place one end onto the end of the clean output and the hose end, of course, on my bladder hose and it works great as a makeshift gravity filter. • The platy dirty bag. Not going to knock stars off for this one either, because THIS model doesn't come with a dirty bag. Which is good, because it's not great. Filling that bag is difficult, and the bag is small (great for a stream drink, but not for hauling 2-3 liters back to camp when you're 1/4 mile from a water source). Platypus such great material for their bags, I don't understand why they don't make bags with better function. I use a Cnoc bag as my dirty bag, and I have a love/hate relationship with it. It's super prone to leaking, totally unreliable, but it has a great big opening for scooping water (like the platypus gravity dirty bag, but with a much better closure) and screws right into the inner threading of the quickdraw. If platypus would make a bag like the Cnoc, but with their own material, I'd pay a fortune for it. ... show more

  • Simple and versatile
Color: Blue Size: 1L
Having used this filter for my last few backpacking trips, I find it easy to use with a very fine flow rate. I have paired it with a CNOC 3 liter bladder, as I have heard there are some issues with the Platypus bladder. This filter is fairly versatile in that you can screw it straight on to a Smart Water or other 28mm bottle and drink straight through the clean end, though I prefer to filter from my bladder into a water bottle. Though I have not needed to yet, I also like that you can check the integrity of the filter in the field. So far, I have been very happy with this product. ... show more

  • Unreliable
Color: Blue Size: 1L
Adventurer here who will never trust the Quickdraw again. Would not properly filter water on one of my many back country adventures. Going back to the true and trusted Sawyer Squeeze and the Befree for ultramarathons. Shame on your Platypus and your Quickdraw, you could get people sick or even cost a life. ... show more

  • Better than Sawyer Squeeze
Color: Blue Size: 1L
I am an avid thru hiker with over 5,000 miles under my belt. I have recently been hooked on the Sawyer Squeeze for my long distance hikes on the PCT and beyond. I was turned onto the idea of this filter because you can actually test it in the field to make sure it is still working. The sawyer doesn’t have a way to test it so you have to buy a new one if you think it might have frozen or been dropped. I love that I can actually test this model and see that it is still working and keeping me drinking clean water on the trail, this is saving me money already since I used to have to buy a new filter if I suspected it was broken. I also love the grippy feel to this filter so when it is wet it is not slippery and I don’t have to worry about dropping it in a stream or creek. I also love love love the innovating design with the flip top that remains attached and the screw on bottom so I can sleep with my filter in my sleeping bag and it won’t leak all over me. The sawyer had no way to seal off the bottom so it would leak in your bag overnight if it was cold. This weighs similar to the sawyer but has way more features and I don’t really see a reason to go back to sawyer. I took this filter on a 170 mile trek around the TRT in Lake Tahoe and it worked perfectly for me and my dog to get fresh water the whole trail. I highly recommend this filter if you are switching from Sawyer, the benefits are amazing you won’t go back. ... show more

  • No longer using the “other” brand filter.
Color: Blue Size: 1L
I have an extensive history thruhiking with sawyer products(they are great), however this Platypus filter is my new go-to filter. It has a flip top cap to keep the clean end from getting dirty. The threads on the dirty end are solid and don’t loosen up over time. You can visually see the filter threads which helps with spotting any mold, algae or chunks of weird stuff that ends up in your dirty bladder. Most important back flushing/cleaning is substantially easier to do in field. In our simple side by side test my partner used this filter for a 165 TRT thruhike and I used my Sawyer Squeeze on the same hike. Before we were halfway finished mine was needing constant back flushing and her Platypus never needed flushing. ... show more

  • Very little flow even brand new just out of the box
Color: Blue Size: 1L
I've heard that there were defects but if you get lucky and get a good one the flow is great. Unfortunately that was not my case. Brand new out of the box it took several minutes to filter tap water in my kitchen. Platypus did offer to replace it however I went through Amazon to get a refund and went with a Sawyer Squeeze. ... show more

  • Check before you use: Defective Filters
Color: Blue Size: 1L
I purchased this filter for a hike. I followed instructions to wet the filter prior to leaving. The brand new filter is defective. Tap water only dribbled out. Absolutely useless!
