  • No “A” string in the set
Style: Single
Have to send the set back, as the string that was inside the “A” string packet looked to be a G or D string. I guess just packaging Quality Control issue. So, didn’t use them so can’t say what the sound was like.

  • Great!

I'm sure you're reading this either thinking about it... Or you already bought them. Used them a bit. And then see what other people think about them. What can I say. These were my first strings. They're great! On my vintage German, it puts some good direct heft into the sound. I am a noob btw. And in the curious stage of just seeing how different strings can change the voice of your violin. My teacher said it sounded good during practice, and I want to use them again. I'll be putting them back on when my current set starts to lose its touch. ... show more

  • Woderful!

These last very well and the sound is superb! We just ordered the gold E string, and are looking forward to the even better quality sound, although we can't imagine it sounding better than it already does.

  • These sound great on my Mendini MV300
Style: Single
These sound great on my Mendini MV300. I removed the Celilio strings that came on this violin. They were okay, but I have a hard time learning an instrument if I am not in love with the sound. The violin had a nice ring with those Celilio strings, but the sound was missing something. The violin is very clear now. I love the strings. I would not use them on a better quality violin because if I spent more on a violin, I would want better sounding strings. For the price of this violin, these strings greatly improved the sound. It seems that it is easier for me to notice when I am off on hitting the mark on the fingerboard with these strings because the sound is purer. My fingering has greatly improved as a result. I hope that makes sense. I am a senior citizen self learner and don’t know exactly what terms would be used. I am waiting until the violin instructor at our music store recovers from surgery so I can start lessons. ... show more

  • Sweet tone that enhances the timbre of the fiddle.
Style: Single
Purchased these to use on one of my fiddles. Normally use D'Addario Helicore but had put these on a violin as a gift to a friend last year and like the way they sound. Has a bright, sweet sound. Still undecided which I like better for folk/bluegrass, but these make the fiddle really 'sing'. Only drawback was it took a bit longer for the strings to settle in than the Helicore, but once they were played consistently they do not drift too much out of tune between sessions, which I like. These do seem a bit more sensitive to temperature and climate changes than the Helicore but overall I am really pleased with how these play and sound. ... show more

  • High-quality strings at a reasonable price
Style: Single
These work well on an new, inexpensive, rather brash little fiddle I have. As a fiddle player, I use Helicore (steel core) on my main instrument. But the Tonicas, with synthetic core, seem to work better on the student violin, with the warmer tone given by the perlon core. And for about half the price of Dominant or Evah Pirazzi. ... show more
