I buy these collars for all my dogs and puppies. They don’t allow them to pull out of them while learning to walk on the leash. I’ve used dozens (large breed dog breeder) and have never had one malfunction. We recently drove on a 30-hour round trip to deliver a puppy up north (from Texas to Michigan) and this is the collar the puppy wore on the whole trip. At the time, she was still learning leash walking, and this made the process so smooth. I ordered this back in July for my 14 year old Shiba Inu who had a knack for popping martingale collars. Fortunately he was old and when he popped the collar he didn't really run off. I had to make other collars pretty tight to keep them from popping but then they were hard to get on and off. This solved that problem. Sadly, our Shiba Inu (Masi) unexpectedly passed away a week ago (through no fault of this collar) so I won't be able to report on how it holds up as we only got to use it for about two months. I first ordered a large because it listed a large as being 13" to 20" and Masi had a 15 inch neck. The large was WAY too big and I could not make it small enough to fit his neck. So the large will NOT work on 15 inch or lower -- maybe it is supposed to be 16 inch and bigger? Easy exchange on Amazon to get the medium collar and that worked great. ... show more

Seems like a good, sturdy collar. They just run big so be aware of that. The measurements are for the collar in the tightest position, so make sure you add 3-4” to that before comparing it to the actual size of your dogs neck. My dog has a 14-15” neck, and the small fit her well.

(He looks mad because I’m bothering his nap time) I got this collar because the shelter we had gotten my pup from was using this collar and we liked the buckle, martingale, and tag ring features. The shelter one is the red in what I presume is the size medium and the one I purchased is the blue in the size large (both have been adjusted to fit his neck). And both fit him perfect! I would definitely recommend the medium for all medium and some large dogs. And the large for any large dogs with either big necks or are just strong. The medium is a bit more bendable (could have gotten soft from wear) hence why I said it could work for large dogs but I’d say only for the more gentle and no pullers. It’s an amazing collar b/c it fulfills my personal wants for my pup and my pup’s needs. This new blue one feels very sturdy and could hold a strong dog and heavy puller. Although we had to tighten it nearly all the way for the large size to fit his neck, it still fits him and we decided on the large for the sturdiness since he’s a puller. The collar also is not heavy and the martingale feature makes the collar comfortable for my boy. Martingale collars are amazing for teaching your dogs not to pull and comfortable for the pup when they are not on a leash since it fits loosely around their necks (it won’t come off either). Update: the large ended up slipping off of his head a couple times and we had to return it and get a medium instead! Hopefully it doesn’t slip off ... show more

Initially purchased this collar at my local humane society when I adopted my husky-aussie mix. Liked the bright pink (raspberry) color and that it was a martingale collar. Durability...she chewed her first one because I put it on too loose. Bought another one and made sure it fit closer to her neck...she's never been able to chew on it after that. As my girl has grown, I needed a new collar and returned to these PetSafe collars. I like that the medium collar comes in 3/4" width...most mediums are 1", but my girl is on the smaller size, so 1" collars look huge on her. Even with the narrower width, the collar is strong and the buckle and martingale part hold securely. My one gripe is that the little rubber tab that a tag can be attached to breaks easily. I've attached a name tag to the two collars she's had, and both ripped off. I could attach it to the metal ring, but don't like the clanging when I attach her leash. Still, a great collar! I have 4 month old puppies, Belgian Malinois and a LabraBull. They’re too small for prong collars. They also battle every second, with one grabbing the other by this collar constantly and you would never know by any wear. They’re very durable and effective. We have deer and the dogs go insane when walking the property and I would be dead if I didn’t have these on them. No one has slipped out, they’re adjustable. I like how they look. Easy on and off. Honestly, if these keep working, I will never use prongs again. Very happy with these. ... show more

The size descriptions are deceiving and the loop (the main feature) is designed too long to make sense. We have a boxer with a pretty big neck, 18". So we chose the Large size (13"-20"), thinking that this refers to the adjustment range of the collar. However, it turns out that the shortest you can make it with the loop being "relaxed" is 20". When the loop tightens by pulling on the leash, the overall length can go down to 13". In other words, with a 18" neck, the collar hangs pretty loose even on the shortest setting, basically just held in place by the ears. When you pull on the leash (or the dog gets hung up!) it'll tighten just like a slip leash. Nothing "safer" or more comfortable about this one. ... show more
