  • Great for multiple kids, it's huge, though
Pattern Name: Tandem Kayak
These are really great value for the price. We have two-I take two kids and my husband takes two kids. It's a big upgrade from two tandem inflatables with the same people since the second kid can sit in the center molded seat. I'd probably never pay the price of other similar-style kayaks, but maybe that's because I just don't know what I'm missing. We were able to tow a youth kayak easily when one of the kids got too tired to paddle herself along. Towing definitely slows you down, but still totally doable. Things you should know: -middle kid probably isn't laying down in the center if they are tired because the seat molding makes it impossible to lay there. Probably not an issue for most, but when my son was younger he'd take a quick nap in our lap in the inflatables. -There are no bags in the hull. We thought about attaching a command hook or something to throw a bag in there, but honestly, we didn't really need anything stored inside anyway. We had one backpack and 3 64 oz water jugs on the back of one kayak and the backpack with 6 bento boxes on the other, and just put anything that couldn't get wet in ziplocks inside the backpack. -It's really, really big. our kayak racks are supposed to hold up to 4 kayaks. That'll never happen. The hull makes them just so thick it's not possible. We can easily transport two, but that's it. We strap two youth kayaks to a metal basket that attaches to the hitch. -paddle not included -one person is not getting this on top of a vehicle alone. My husband is 6'5" and still needs me to help lift it on and hold it til he gets the first strap in place -inspect the kayak right away. (TLDR-look for scupper damage and get a replacement right away if you see any) We bought two at a lower than normal price in October, before we even had a kayak rack to transport them. By the time we got the rack it was too cold to take the kids out, so the first time we actually put them in water was Memorial Day. After about five minutes we realized one was taking on water, and fast. Lucked out that we discovered it near a semi-shore and dumped the water out of the hull and just assumed we had forgotten to plug up the drain hole on the back of the kayak. But then realized that wasn't the issue once we got back on the water. Again, thankfully I was close enough to where we started that I managed to get back to the pier without sinking, but it was a close call. Turns out there was scupper damage in the back scupper and that dry storage was just filling with water. Pelican declared it eligible for a warranty coverage, but said Amazon handles the replacements-but it was out of stock. It took some long phone calls, but we finally managed to get a refund and then when it came back in stock they refunded the difference in what the new cost was compared to the original payment. The new one and the second from the first purchase are both perfect. Upon looking at the damaged one some more, we think we just got a bad one as it's banged up in other areas, too. Would definitely purchase again if we could transport or store 3. ... show more

  • Great kayak for the money!
Pattern Name: Tandem Kayak
Kayak was well wrapped and delivered with care. I personally took it from the drivers so it wouldn't be left at my door. The kayak is a great value for the money, the colors are fantastic as well. The only thing I did not receive were the 2 storage bags for the drylok compartments. Apparently, some people say the received paddles with their purchase, and others did not; i did not receive paddles either, so I ordered my own. Other than the missing storage bags for the compartments, I'm very happy with my purchase, and would easily look to them again in the future. ... show more

  • Dry bags not as promised.
Pattern Name: Tandem Kayak
Even tho we like the kayak, we were promised dry bags to store special stuff, they weren't included initially. Upon contact they were promised, wrong size sent. We still haven't recieved correct bags, 2.5 months later.

  • Sits low in the water and scupper damage.
Pattern Name: Tandem Kayak
For a three person kayak the price is really decent. Says it’s rated for 500lbs, however I am about 225lbs, and with two kids in the front that weigh about 100lbs together, the kayak sits very low in the water where water starts coming into the scupper holes and into the boat. We didn’t sink but it’s really unnerving when you’re out there. I also noticed that one of the front scupper holes was damaged allowing water into the hull when we returned from our first trip, I went back to look at some pictures that I took when it was first delivered and can see the damage was there upon delivery I just didn’t notice it till I started to look why there was so much water inside the hull. Not sure what can be done about it, I am going to contact Pelican and see how painful this process is going to be and what they are willing to do about it. For anyone buying this kayak as a three person, there are connections to put a kayak seat on that molded center seat to allow for a seat with a back for a third person to sit comfortably. If the scuppers weren’t damaged and it sat a little higher in the water this kayak would be 5 stars but as it is now it does make me nervous taking my kids out on it, constantly checking the scuppers and can’t paddle with a ton of confidence. ... show more

  • Good but some issues
Pattern Name: Tandem Kayak
Great deal but if u and ur other person are right at or even just under the 500lb weight limit the kayak does take on water. It goes into the dry storage even if they’re locked and we eventually have to get the kayak out and drain it after an hour or so. Almost sunk it the first time out bc the back drain came unplugged so make sure that it’s closed correctly. ... show more

  • Wanted to love it
Pattern Name: Tandem Kayak
The good, it's easy for two people to use, and easy for one person to use if sitting in the middle section (I just attached another seat in the middle). The storage size is also really good. I used this solo in in Gulf when I went island camping. Things I didn't like, the seats can't be removed, which was annoying if using it solo. The hatches don't come with bags and you can't buy bags after the fact. I contacted Pelican and they said the deck hatches are so you can do maintenance on the inside. The hatches themselves are a weird size, so I had to spend $55 for two replacement 9" deck plate hatch covers so I could use bags, or else stuff is going to slide everywhere in there. Then the biggest killer which caused me to return it, the plastic under the front seat would bend down after my wife (under 130lbs) would sit in it, while using it. The plastic was just too weak to support weight the way it was designed. ... show more

  • Nice quality but very heavy with not enough hand grips
Pattern Name: Tandem Kayak
Very impressed with the quality but it comes at a price of the weight and ease of moving it to the water. This is reallllly heavy. Unfortunately they forgot to put any decent handgrips where one person could even consider lifting it. It's absolutely a 2 person job. The storage compartments are funny... just covers to the inside of the kayak shell, so don't put anything in there that you don't want to get wet. There are also 2 strange unplugged 'holes' on each end which are open both on the top and the bottom of the boat, without - and are open to the water on the bottom. I'm really nervous about whether this boat will be filling up with water. ... show more
