Description

Once again Peavey Electronics revolutionizes the modeling amp industry. Introducing the world's first Variable Instrument Performance amplifier, the VYPYR V.I.P. The world's first amp that contains Bass guitar, Acoustic guitar and Electric guitar amplifier models. Now for the first time ever using our Variable Instrument Input a single amp can provide amplification for a variety of instrument types. Not only does the amplifier morph from a bass amp to an acoustic amp, to an electric amp. It also, for the first time ever in an amplifier in this category, allows the electric guitar player access to instrument models as well. Using appropriate technology, Peavey uses a combination of powerful 32-bit, floating point SHARC processors and patented Transtube analog circuitry to create the best sounding modeling amplifiers available. Nothing sounds as good as a VYPYR. All VYPYR effects, amp models and parameter controls can be accessed via the amp itself, with no need to hook the amplifier to a computer. Peavey's WYSIWYG control surface quickly allows the user the ability to see and adjust the control position, no guessing where the control is supposed to be, or having to manually move it to where it should be preset to preset. VYPYRs new USB bi-directional data and audio port provides and easy way to record, and or connect to our VYPYR software and store presets, get lessons, and practice to backing tracks while connected to your computer. All of the revolutionary features from the original VYPYR series now even better. More power, more effects, more amp models, Variable Instrument Input, instrument models, and more make this the ultimate amplifier.

  • And one that her parents and siblings like: the power sponge
Size: 100 watts
After considering a half dozen or more amps of this size and feature set, I purchased this one for my granddaughter (her little 10-watt practice amp just wasn't adequate any more). This one has way more features than she really needed, but has some key features that she really appreciates. And one that her parents and siblings like: the power sponge, which keeps the volume down but lets her use all the other controls and features as they were intended. She loves it, and has been trying out many of the models, presets, and effects. For the most part, I'm happy with the quality of this amp. But in two respects, the build quality is not up to what I expected from Peavey. One is cosmetic -- the amp arrived with one of the plastic corners of the case broken. No big deal, just cosmetic. A little more serious was the fact that it came with three loose screws fastening the speaker to the cabinet. I heard them rattling around inside, so I took the back off, put one screw back in, and replaced two other screws with larger screws, because the threads were loose in the hole. Careless assembly -- one screw not fully driven in, two screws driven so hard they ate the wood. Fixable, if you're handy with a screwdriver and have extra screws lying around. Not so cool, though, if you're not so handy. One other minor complaint: no written instructions at all, not even a quick start guide. Just a disk with manuals and software. Not that it's complicated -- just plug it in and turn it on to get started. The manual I downloaded was kind of skimpy, too, at least to my eyes -- it didn't really have a whole lot of detail about the various models, effects, presets, and other settings. I expected more. But I'm not the one using it, and my granddaughter is happy with it. I'd buy it again. ... show more

  • Great amp!
Size: 100 watts
To be honest, I had only tried this amp once at a local Guitar Center and didn't get to spend very much time with it, nor did I really know how to work it. The presets I tried sounded pretty good, though. I actually thought about it for several months afterward and then I blew my bass amp (I play bass, too). Since you can run a bass through this amp without blowing it, it started to sound like a better and better idea. So really, I had more than one reason for buying this particular one. I liked the idea of the power sponge as well, for being able to get that more "saturated" sound at bedroom volumes in my apartment. That feature is certainly helpful. The main thing I like about it though are the sounds of the presets. They are pretty darn amazing and I've had other modeling amps and processors that don't come anywhere near it. Keep in mind that you have to take it out of demo mode before you start moving knobs or they will go right back to their default positions after you switch presets or turn the unit off. I do recommend, however, putting it right back in demo mode again once you're satisfied and have saved the preset. Reason being, so that you won't mess it up again by accidentally moving the wrong knob or something and not being able to get it back the way you liked it. It's easy enough to get it in and out of demo mode and if you really mess your presets up, you can always do a factory reset and get it right back the way it came. I got the unit about a month ago and just ordered the sanpera 2 footswitch for it, which I should be getting in a few days. Until then, can't say anything about the looper function, because you can't operate it without the footswitch. In all honesty though, it's the sound of the presets that I really like the most. My main guitar right now is an Epiphone G-400 Pro and the 6505 and 6534 models sound really great with it, beyond what I expected. Peavey really nailed it with the whole Trans Tube thing. I asked myself if I could have done just as well getting the VIP 2, since this is mostly for recording at home, but the power sponge and digital display were calling my name, lol. ... show more

  • Really cool amp.
Size: 40 watts
Really cool amp. Some of the effects (slice) are not real useful, but it is cool to play around with. I like that it also acts as a computer interface for recording. The amp models sound pretty good overall (especially if you like crunchy gainy Peavey models). Its basically 2 iterations of the 6505 sound, one of the Triple X, one of the Peavey Classic, a MArshall sound, a Vox sound, a Fender sound and a Buddha sound, plus 2 acoustic and 2 bass amps. Overall the sounds are good. The effects range from decent to sort fo useless, but overall are pretty useful. Given the price it is a good deal. I bought the 40 w version, which gets loud enough for jamming with friends and probably a club, and certainly would be fine through a PA, which you could likely do with a plug adapter for the headphone output. ... show more

  • Good amp, except... (second review)
Size: 40 watts
I would've given this 5 stars; however this amp has an extremely loud speaker "thump" when you switch power on and off. I play in church and this thump is very disruptive. Turning down the volume doesn't help. I can leave the amp on for the entire service, but I'd rather not. I considered adding a time-delay relay to connect the speaker several seconds after power-up, and I may still do this. However, for the time being I simply added a toggle switch in series with the speaker. Now I switch on the amp, give it a few seconds to settle, then switch on the speaker, and do it in reverse order to power off. Peavey needs to work on this - with all the computing power in this amp, adding a time delay speaker relay to the original design would've been a piece of cake. Had I recognized this problem before purchase, I would've given second thoughts to buying it. Second review - I have now tried this amp on a bass guitar. This is unbelievably poor. I can start with a low E and walk chromatically up the guitar neck and hit resonance after resonance in the amplifier. One resonance (at A) was in the back vibrating, so I screwed a piece of angle iron to the back. That fixed it. Now I'm seeing other resonances in the front where the speaker is mounted. So next I'll spend some time chasing those. I'm sorry I ever bought this amp. The audio engineering that went into it is a disgrace to the Peavey name. I wish I could give it zero stars. DO NOT BUY THIS AMP TO PLAY BASS GUITAR THROUGH IT. ... show more
