Description

What if boutique-inspired drums loaded with pro-features were more affordable? What if drummers could get a wide variety of our most popular Custom Shop sizes and colors without breaking the bank? We're proud to introduce a new concept, a completely re-imagined line of PDP drums designed for every drummer. It’s called the Concept Series and it has a fresh new look and a sound that already has drummers talking. Choose from Concept Maple or Concept Birch shells in a myriad of today’s most popular configurations. Then, add toms or bass drums to build custom-style kits to suit just about every musical style. Add to that, high-end features like STM (Suspension Tom Mounts), True Pitch tension rods, MAG throw-off, die cast low-mass claw hooks, proportionate counter hoops and durable lacquer finishes, and you have a kit that unquestionably lives up to its DW roots. Concept Series is a new line of PDP drums that are available in both all-maple or all-birch shells. All shells are 7-ply, except for the snare which is 10-ply. Through our research with the DW Custom Shop, we have found some particular detail features that have a big effect on sound and quality. We believe every drummer deserves these features, so we included DW-style STM mounting systems, True Pitch trade; tuning, F.A.S.T. tom sizing, proportional counter hoop sizing, and Remo drum heads. Snare drums come with the DW MAG throw-off and boutique-style copper wires. Bass drums come with die-cast claw hooks, and all drums feature the new retro- inspired dual-turret tube lug.

Great

  • Good quality drum set for the price point. The maple shells are solid!
For the money you cant "beat" these drums. The hardware is high quality and the exterior finish is above average. The maple ply shells carry well and the 7 piece set I bought is versatile to almost any music. I did have to put new REMO skins on the cans and once tuned they sound very good. I have always been a Pearl guy and glad I switched to try these. ... show more

  • First Impressions, Snare is very good
I have been playing drums since I was nine years old and I have a really huge kit of which the core drums (Ludwig Vistilite 8 piece) I bought in 1976. The rest have been added over the years including 8 Octabons, 3 Roto-Toms and several Zildjian Cymbals. I needed to get a "Gig Kit" as mine is just too big and time consuming to move around. I am really quick at setting it up and it still takes over two hours. Sooo, I went to a local music store that just happened to be having a 65th Birthday sale and got a killer deal on this PDP 7 piece kit. The finish on it is a flawless and beautiful Dark Cherry to Black Sparkle Fade (they call it red but it's a deeper shade like cherry, gorgeous and my wife's favorite color). We all know how important it is to get the wife's approval on such a purchase. Anyway, I am just starting to put it together so I will be coming back soon for a full review. I did however get the snare tuned so I will review that first. I immediately did away with all the original heads opting for some Evans Hydraulics. I assembled the snare without any sound suppression and as expected it had a bit of a ring after-tone. So, I took it apart and threw on three pieces of Moon-Gel (If you haven't heard of or have any of this stuff, I highly recommend it). I put the snare back together, tuned it, and went for a test run with some military style rudiments and my typical rock hard smacks. The drum lost the ring tone and sounds very very nice. I love the Mag-Throw-Off, had to adjust the tension a bit to my liking. I also tune my resonant head very and the batter head a notch below so I get a really nice warm yet powerful pop from it. So far, I am very pleased with the quality of the build. It is after all not a state of the art top of the line DW or Pearl Masterworks kit, but like I said I needed something halfway decent to take to gigs and I am at this point pretty pleased. Not to mention, I think this kit, for the money, is better than I expected. Much better than I expected but again, I have only tried the snare. I did however also get to check out the quality of construction. It is Maple which I really like for playing heavy metal, hard rock, and blues. The shells are nearly 1/4" thick and appear to be very well crafted ply's of layered maple wood. I will be putting the rest of the kit together over the next day or two, tune them up, probably have to add some moon-gel, and then I will write part two of this review. So far, for the snare, 5 stars. The only negative I have to say is they could have included a snare stand, even a medium duty one. UPDATE: I finally got the kit completely set up and tuned. My first impressions on the snare actually carry over to the complete kit. It sounds better than I expected, looks awesome and is a snap to set up. I bought a small Gibraltar rack for attaching the Toms and my already existing cymbals and stands, etc. It is a miniature compared to my main kit which has just become a beast and way too much to move around. I tried listening to them both with and without the bottom heads, I prefer them wothout the bottoms, but that's just me. I guess I have just gotten used to the booming projection of my old Ludwig Vistilites without bottoms over the years as that kit makes some noise. removing the bottom hardware and heads renders a more crisp and open sound. Moon Gels are a must and do a fine job of eliminating the ringing and other after tones without deadening the natural sound of the drums. I will have to get used to the smaller dimensions but the playability of this kit is surprisingly good. They seem to be very durable, but time will tell right? I threw around some who and zeppelin to see what they would sound like under pressure and I smiled when I heard similar resonance and tones that I get from my main kit. I think the quality of this kit (so far) far outweighs the price I paid for it. Even though I have the familiarity of using my Bass Pedal, Hi-Hat, and drum throne, the rest of the kit feels a little awkward but that will change as I get more used to it and has nothing to do with the sound. The drums are just arranged a little differently and I have to move, or adjust my movements to adapt. Every drummer can relate to that I am sure. You get used to your own kit. Like a glove it fits you and when you get behind a new (different) kit, you're just a little out of your "zone". It only takes time to make the adjustments both in moving things where you want them and in your mind as you familiarize yourself with where everything is. After all, I can play my kit with my eyes closed. A new kit, not so, but again, that will change with time and the fiune tuning of where everything needs to be set. So far, still five stars on the entire kit. ... show more

  • Great kit for the cost
This is a beautiful and great kit for the cost. Some assembly required and there are no instructions included. Be sure to check out YouTube for assembly and tuning tips from DW if you need help. Excellent sound from this kit and the mag-lev throw-off is amazing. The included heads are single-ply basic Remo heads, you'll want to swap them out in a few weeks. These are not the fancy custom DW/Remo heads included on more expensive DW kits. For the 8" tom, you'll need to hook it to a cymbal stand, the other toms and floor toms will stand on their own. Also, you'll need to get a snare stand if you don't already have one. Overall, for the price, the quality on these are amazing and the drums feature some DW signature features that are much more affordable than their premium counterparts. ... show more

  • Don't be deceived by the picture read the details.
Drums came without pedals and symbols, this is my first time purchasing a drum set therefore I wasn't aware that the symbols and pedals were sold serperately. The picture on the site was deceiving.
