    • It's a patio heater that can't heat a single chair-sized area, much less a patio.
Style: Table Side Heater
I really wanted to like this product, but I have to give it one star. Mostly because I don't think you can leave a zero-star review. My apartment has a no-smoking-indoors policy. It does, however, have an outdoor balcony that's about 4x7', with a concrete floor. Fully half of it is sheltered (tucked into a nook in the building), so wind is seldom a problem. Big enough for a small table and a couple of chairs for a designated "smoking lounge." But...even here in northern GA, it gets COLD out there in the winter months. Based on the descriptions, this unit seemed like a great solution. It completely failed to deliver on those promises. First, ergonomically, it's awkward to actually turn on and adjust. The physical controls on the unit are absolutely inaccessible during normal use. They're inexplicably on the bottom of the unit, separated from the base plate by less than an inch. To reach them, you'd have to tip the unit over, which would activate the safety shutoff feature. So...you're down to using the remote. The "manual" mentions a blue light as the target for the remote, but it's completely invisible, so you kind of aim the remote at the glass below the heaters and just hope it works. Next, the alleged varying heat output levels. There's no indicator whatsoever that this is even working. I cannot notice a change in even the brightness levels of the heating elements, and there's no indication of the heat output. But based on its actual output, I've been just turning it on and pressing the "max" button half a dozen times to ensure that it's putting out its full heat. And, most importantly, the heat output itself. This isn't a patio heater; it's a hand warmer, but only if you move your hand within a few inches of the glass. Even a naked, ungloved hand can't feel any heat whatsoever more than 12" from the glass. I thought that maybe leaving it on for 10-15 minutes might have a cumulative heating effect (this would be absolutely useless for taking a smoke break by the way, unless you want to leave the thing on unattended outdoors, which I'd call a BAD IDEA). Even after 15 minutes, it still has the same tiny range. Note that while my deck is cold, it's only "Georgia cold." No snow or ice is ever going to be present. Overnight lows seldom dip below 20°F. I can only imagine how pointless the output would be in, say, the UP of Michigan, northern Wisconsin or Minnesota, etc. This "heater" is simply incapable of providing the heating output described under real-world conditions. Maybe if you set it up in an enclosed, and already kind of warm, space like a drafty living room as a booster heater? That makes the IP65 rating a waste, but maybe you'd get some use out of it. But for an outdoor heater, look elsewhere. I'll be trying to return this one as soon as the Christmas holiday is over. Even THAT is going to be a pain, as the box is going to weigh a ton and I have to figure out how to get it down 3 flights of stairs unassisted when the elevator's out of service. And then cart it to an Amazon drop location. I have never left a review this negative for any product purchased on Amazon, including a coat that showed up ripped. That at least could be swapped easily. This unit is apparently working as intended, yet is useless for its designed purpose. While I really want a useful outdoor heater for the space, I'm not just having second thoughts about this brand, but about the usefulness of radiant heaters in general. It's that bad. ... show more

Provides good warmth on a exposed balcony. You have to be pretty close to feel the heat though. Be aware that it’s tough to feel the heat if it’s extremely windy. Very happy with purchase. Highly recommend.

January amendment: The 2-sided heater really didn't work for us (see comments below), but early in January I received an email from East Oak Customer Service offering us a choice of 2 other heaters- at no cost. This was after we had returned it and been refunded our original payment. I told them that and the offer was still good. Mind blown! They sent us the 1500W Tower Heater but the glass was cracked. I let them know and today, 1/23, we received a perfect heater that is well on the way to heating our enclosed patio. Fantastic! I am grateful for their help and genuine consideration. I will recommend this company but not the 2-sided heater. Our new heater seems great! It's been a long road, but we got to the end of it all nice'n'warm :) December comments: We still have some weeks to decide to keep or return this 2-sided heater, but we are not satisfied so far. It is too warm in our smallish living room and not warm enough outside. Only my knees and hands felt the warmth when sitting within 2 ft of the heater on our patio. We removed the (safety!) glass to see if we could better feel the heat, and it really wasn't enough of an improvement to justify the brightness and exposure to the very hot tungsten screen. Many people have made the same complaints, but I really hoped we'd agree with the 5 Star reviewers. Oh well. Just wondering if the 1500 w are divided between the 2 sides- in which case a 1-sided heater would radiate more heat?? It is attractive, but I pick Function over Form. Also, while it is weather-proof, we will never leave a heater outside at night (uncovered patio), so we may be better off with a less expensive space heater. This one is quiet because it has no fan. So the best thing I can say about this heater is that it is pretty and quiet? I want that in a houseplant, but this should put out heat. **** We have given the heater every chance to win us over, but it was not to be; we've returned it. This should not be advertised as a patio heater. We got this heater for our garage and you can’t feel the heat unless you’re right up on the unit. It looks nice, size is great and seems well built/durable, but it’s definitely not functional for an outside/non insulated space, much less an open patio. My husband unfortunately tossed the box so I’m not even sure if we’ll be able to return it. Very disappointed. EDITED on Nov. 26, 2023: The folks at East Oak were dismayed by my review and offered to send me an upgraded heater that they said would function better. After several emails from them, I agreed. I did not really have a chance to try it out until cold weather arrived recently. It is larger and seems better constructed and does put out somewhat more heat--maybe the one I received earlier had a defect. So I would certainly recommend their customer service as well as the upgraded heater. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I ordered this back in October so I have given it time to perform as advertised. Unfortunately it puts out little discernible heat, as other reviewers have noted. We wanted to use it on an enclosed back porch and it's just pointless. You have to be within roughly 6 inches to feel anything but at that point you're wary of touching the very hot exterior. ... show more
