Description

Multi-Angle Vise, Base Type Vacuum, Jaw Width 2-1/2 In., Max. Opening 2-1/4 In., Throat Depth 1-3/8 In., Pipe Capacity 1 to 2 In., Jaw Face Smooth, Jaw Material Nylon, Material Cast Zinc, Swivel Angle 360 Degrees , Overall Length 7-1/2 In., Overall Width 6 In., Overall Height 6-1/8 In., Features Attaches to Any Smooth, Non-Porous Flat Surface w/Flip a Lever, Single Knob Controls Head Movement Through 3 Planes, Nylon jaws offer excellent electrical insulation and gentle holding power From the Manufacturer The PanaVise 381 vacuum base PanaVise is a work-holding tool base and head combination designed for use on smooth, non-porous surfaces away from traditional work benches. The base includes a smooth rubber pad and lever combination which creates a vacuum that secures the unit to surfaces. The head assembly component opens to 2-1/2" (63.5 mm), and clamps down with smooth insulated nylon jaws for gentle holding power. Other features include rugged, yet lightweight construction and a PanaVise "split-ball" adjustment element utilizing single-knob controls for head adjustment on three separate planes (tilt, turn and rotate). Two-piece work-holding tool that creates a vacuum securing its base to smooth surfaces. View larger.Portable Clamp-free Holding Power The 381 vacuum base PanaVise is a portable two-piece work-holding tool suitable for hobby, electronics and small home repairs, that consists of the PanaVise 380 vacuum base and the 303 standard vise head. The base component of the unit adheres to smooth, non-porous surfaces via the vacuum action that the rubber pad and flip handle at its bottom create when engaged. The vacuum action creates a stable and reliable working platform that eliminates the need for traditional bench clamps or weighted accessories. The combined unit weighs 2.8 lbs. (1.3 kg), is portable and easy to transport. The rubber vacuum pad is replaceable if its holding power is ever compromised by wear. The standard 303 vise head assembly utilizes smooth, removable nylon jaws along its opening that measure 2-1/2" (63.5 mm) by 1/2" tall (12.6 mm). These secure tough small jobs without scratching and offer excellent electrical insulation and gentle holding power. The overall vise opening width between jaws is 2-1/4" (57.1 mm). Because exposure to heat sources is common in vise applications such as gluing, circuit board wiring, jewelry making and use around handheld power tools, the vise head assembly is continuously heat tolerance to 200 degrees F (93 degrees C), and intermittent heat tolerant up to 300 degrees F (149 degrees C). Dependable placement along horizontal or vertical planes where the vise is needed. View larger. Convenient adjustability across three separate planes. View larger.Tilt, Turn and Rotate Functionality The PanaVise 381 work- holding tool utilizes PanaVise "split-ball" adjustment functionality at the point of 380 vacuum base and the included 303 standard head. Once an item is secured in the vise head, the split-ball system built into the top portion of the base allows a user to maneuver the item along three separate planes using a single knob to make the adjustments. The mobility range of the model 381's split-ball system is a 90-degree tilt to the side, along with either an angled rotation, or level turn range of 360 degrees. This range of mobility allows a user to rearrange work items into any position, which limits the need to adjust the overall position of the vise or the item within the vise. Additional Vise Head Options In addition to the uses possible with the included, the 381 vacuum base PanaVise is intended for use across a wide range of applications and is designed to be compatible with a variety of vise heads. The base works with all PanaVise 300 series vise heads, the PV Jr. model 203 head or any 5/8" diameter shaft tool accessory. • worked great at first
This is certainly for the hobbyist. It worked great suctioning to the table. When I went to use it again weeks later, it wouldn't suction to the table no matter what I tried. Same table. The only difference was that it was a little cooler weather (50's versus 70's). I was very frustrated. Tried different tables. Finally got it to suction a little bit, but then in the middle of my work, it un-suctioned. Also, before when it did suction like it was supposed to, I was able to pull it off the table while it was suctioned. I'm strong, but not certainly not someone who would ever think I could win over machine. I personally feel I shouldn't have been able to pull it off the table while it was suctioned. But maybe that is why its better for the hobbyist and I need a heavy duty built one instead. ... show more

  • Next best thing to another pair of hands
I've been a fan of Panavise for over 30 years, back when I owned an electronic repair business. When we closed the business we liquidated a lot of tools, among them was a Panavise. I've been presented with an opportunity to get back into the electronic repair and am slowly putting my shop back together. One of the differences is that the old Panavise had two arms that would support the board by the edge. That's great for adding stability to your workpiece, but it limited us to boards less that 11" in width. This vise, while isn't as stable, still works well enough to support the work and doesn't limit your board size. Plus, I'm able to hold other items besides printed circuit boards. The suction cup is very strong (as long as your workbench top is smooth) and doesn't budge an inch. Yes, there are cheaper versions but I don't think you'll find the quality in those that you'll find with Panavise. You get what you pay for. ... show more

  • Scratches runny paint and wrong hardware.
For the best vise on the market it came with scratches and runny paint? The extra mount came with three correct screws and one that’s clearly larger than the others? Now I have to go to ace and find the right size screw to mount the clamping devices on the vice. This is unbelievable. Where is the quality control people! ... show more

  • Perfect for hobbyists and electronics work
I don't think I could say enough positive things about this vise. I admit, I expected it to work perfectly when I ordered it, imagining myself sticking it to my office desk for soldering projects and other hobby work. Sure enough, it works *exactly* as I expected. I was not disappointed! I absolutely love that I can secure this vise to my work table whenever I need it, and then easily move it out of the way when I'm done. That's something you just don't get with a traditional, permanent installation vise. This probably isn't going to work at all on any surface that isn't smooth (like a wooden workshop work bench), but for hobby use in a kitchen or office, it's absolutely fantastic. Now, I haven't done any heavy duty work with this thing, I use it primarily for soldering and other work that doesn't require a lot of force to be applied to the vise, so I don't know how well it will hold up to that sort of work. Pros: * Installs in seconds to any smooth surface * Can be removed in about 2 seconds * Holds *very* tight to the surface where it has been suction-installed * The swivel and re-positioning function of the vise is very, very easy to use, and makes hobby work so much easier. It's extremely convenient to be able to rotate and angle the vise grip in a matter of seconds Cons: * May not stay secured to your table/desk surface if great sideways force is applied to whatever you're working on, but I haven't tested this. It goes without saying, though, that this isn't going to handle a bunch of hammering or lots of pulling/pushing since it's suction-mounted and not bolted to your work table. If you need a vise that can be secured to any smooth surface very quickly, this is the one! ... show more

  • Mount it on a clean solid surface. Do not over tighten clamp.
the first one I received the screw handle broke in less than a week. besides that I sent back and received a replacement that'd be my only complaint. Very versatile. the uses are endless. make sure you have it mounted on a clean with no defects solid surface.

  • Good quality
I have had a panavise 381 for about 15 years. My son is familar with my workbench and the tools. So when he started buying his own tools and asked for a small vise for Christmas, there was no question on what to buy. We both use these to hold our drone parts while soldering or assembly. Maybe more money than other cheap brands. But if you value your tools and keep things for a lifetime, this is the product for you. ... show more

  • You'll wonder how you lived without it!
I ordered this vise for our test bench at work. I loved it so much I bought another one for my home. It's just the perfect tool for what it is. It's solidly built, finely adjustable, tough yet delicate. The vacuum base works great on Formica/laminate surfaces. If you don't have a smooth surface to cup this to, get one of the other variants with a different base. If it isn't suctioned down its a tad wobbly as it becomes top heavy with work clamped into it. The nylon padded jaws work great. Hard enough to get a good grip, soft enough not to mar most things. Not too big, not too small. Don't waste your time trying to save a penny. There is a reason why this company has been making this thing, unchanged, for decades. IT IS THE BEST. I use mine nearly everyday and it works as good now as the day I bought it. If something happened to mine, I would order the exact same thing the same day to replace it. I've used mine for small repairs, electronics, soldering, woodworking, RC Cars/Planes/Boats, static display models, rotating paint stand for airbrushing stuff. ENDLESS USES! You won't regret purchasing it. I also have the self centering wide mouth jaws... A major PLUS to have in your arsenal. I picked up the electronics board holder... I don't use it much but it works well if you have a loose board your working on. ... show more

  • Great Vice! Incredible suction power!
This is a great little vice. Exactly what I need to tie fish hook sets. It has very good suction on laminate counters. It also swivels around so you can get it in the perfection position. Well built and of high quality.
