  • Decent dock, short cable
Color: Space Gray
Cable is 0.5M length, extremely short!! Dock works well but keep in mind if you have a Mac with M1/M2 (not pro/ultra) that you can only run one external monitor with this dock. I would recommend theirThunderbolt 4 dock instead better value for the money.

  • Great for Mac Laptop
Color: Space Gray
This thunderbolt dock has ports galore at 14. I use a lot of cables: USB-A, USB-C, Mini-Display port, Digital Audio, Cat5 and of course Thunderbolt. I use the Mini-Display port for a 3rd 1080p monitor. The Digital Audio port has a Tosh-Link cable plug into it, going to my Edifier powered speakers. This all connected to my 2021 MacBook Pro M1 laptop. All the ports on the front of the unit are free. This just gives me extra ports. ... show more

  • It’s exactly what I knew I needed, once I updated to a modern MacBook Pro
Color: Space Gray
As I noted in the title , it’s exactly what I knew a needed once I purchased a modern MacBook Pro. I’ve bought several other OWC products and I’ve always been satisfied with them in the past.

  • Works ok for what it is.
Color: Silver
My use case it not really what this is for. As a business dock for lower powered laptops under 85 watts its probably pretty decent. I wanted something that I could use for my Alienware m17 r3, So I am really using this more as over powered USB hub at the moment. There are a few issues I have found with it but again this is most likely due to my use case and the non-standard devices that I have. (But there is some weirdness with their USB implementation - See Below) Currently plugged into it: - Alienware M17R3 - CRG9 (49 inch wide screen) - Logitech G915 - Logitech Powerplay (Mouse pad Charger with G905 Mouse) - Vanatoo Transparent Zero speakers (via SPDIF - Had issues with USB will talk about below) - (2) 7 port Pluggable USB3 hubs - Corsair Virtuoso SE Headphones (will talk about issues with this as well) Pros: - Has a decent amount of ports to hook up most devices you might have as part of your work or home office. - built in card readers which I have yet to test out yet - Analog sound in or out via mini jack on the front - USB C and A port on the front Cons: (keep in mind some of this due to my equipment that isn't basic) - USB ports don't like supporting Logitech USB wireless devices with the USB plugged in and charging (Kept pausing when moving across the screen - yes I was using the power specific USB port). Also Mouse and Keyboard kept loosing connection with Logitech GHUB. When direct to PC worked fine. My work around was putting a Logitech Powerplay charging mat in between them to control the mouse and charge it. - 85 watts will only support the lightest of PC's. Anything that has a discrete video card this wont be enough. So I am also using the Laptop power supply plugged directly into the PC - Refresh is only 60hz. For what it is and most use cases that aren't gaming this is fine. So again plugging directly into the PC. - Audio out is amplified (not a con if your using junk speakers) Anything else that has a DAC / internal Amp is going to induce clipping and static. This resulted in me having to either plug directly into the laptop or using SPDIF (Optical). which means you cant use your native windows volume adjuster. (not a big deal mine has a remote for my vanatoo's) - USB for wireless headphones was hit or miss. I got lucky and I found (1) USB to plug into that didn't inject clipping. Also any hubs hooked to it would inject clipping as well. Synopsis: If you have a basic set up with a 60hz monitor or don't mind it being dumbed down to 60hz and its a very basic laptop (work issued laptop), this will probably suit you well. But in that same thought If you have a Dell or a Lenovo go with their factory doc and it will most likely serve you better for the price. 3rd party resellers sell those for half of this. I don't think its a bad product I just think that for the price it needs to have higher specs. Here are my recommendations which I'm sure raise the price but I for one would gladly pay: - Support 150 - 200 watts at least. It still wouldn't cover my laptop but would for most people. - Give the option to shut off amplification (prob require a different audio chip I'm sure - If possible support 144hz refresh rate. In the next year or so how many monitors will be 60hz any more. - Fix whats going on with your USB ports. Not sure whats going on with your USB standards and I am not a electrical engineer but I think you have something out of spec. Like I said, It's not a bad product but I think knowing what I know now I would have went with a USB3.0 hub and waited for the Thunderbolt4.0 hubs that should be coming out sometime in the next year which will have more required standards to be met. I know OWC has something coming and I might try it out. I will also be adding a Thunderbolt SSD/NVME to this shortly So that's my saving grace for this product I hope. ... show more

  • You get what you pay for
Color: Space Gray
I now own two of these docks - one for my home office and one for my work office. I’ve tried a bunch of different docks to save money but they all seem to be glitchy in one way or the other - this one works great. I have a dual monitor (1080p) setup with HDMI inputs and wanted a simple way to switch between my business Windows laptop and my late 2021 M1 Pro Macbook Pro. I had to get one Thunderbolt to HDMI cable and a mini display port to HDMI to connect my monitors. The first dock I purchased directly from OWC, the second I purchased refurbished from Amazon for a considerable discount. I’m not overly techy, so I can’t speak to 4k, 8k, etc - but this dock works like a charm and lets me easily switch between my Mac and Windows laptops. And it’s a sleek looking device that looks nice on my desk. ... show more

  • Not quite the quality for the price.
Color: Space Gray
Update: I've been using this for about a month now. Today it appears to have stopped charging my MacBook Pro. The lightening bolt is present in the charging symbol, but the % is dropping. Power cycling the dock unconnected to the Pro didn't work. Power cycling when connected did. It is very strange to have it stop charging randomly. I'm having some issues the micro SD Card Reader and, I believe, with the extended monitor features. Micro SD Card Reader: You have to push the micro SD card in past the case, inside the dock with your finger nail, for the spring mechanism to catch. Once that happens, it pushes the sd card face back out of the case by half a millimeter and is latched. To remove the micro SD Card, you then have to very carefully use a finger nail to push the card back in past the case, releasing the latch, and then the card sits out about two millimeters past the case. Your finger nail is scraped by the AL case each time. You then have to pick the case up and try to pinch and pull the micro SD card out. This is a fail. The micro SD card reader works. I'm not sure how much of this is Mac OS X or the dock. This issues started after I began using the dock....which makes me think it is the dock's issue: The extended monitor....one of my programs crashes every time I try to move it from my Pro's screen to the extended monitor. Another program, the scaling goes haywire. It is normal on the Pro's screen, but when I move it to the extended monitor, the program's frame is fine, but the stuff in the frame is horribly zoomed in. Trying to zoom out and pan around, it just goes has no stability and shifts around after I've zoomed or panned. Overall, I still like this dock, but can definitely say, for the price....I'd keep shopping. Which is pretty sad. I do think it has the best combo of features and best layout that I've seen. The general usability has been perfect for what I need. I'll have to use the micro SD card adapter though, as I don't need my fingernail repeated scraped. ----------------------- Overall this is decent. It has all the features I want and need. I’m not sure if it is worth the $300 for several reasons. But then again, it does what I need. I’m happy that I’ve reduced the several adapters and cables cluttering up all the USB ports down into a single device separate away from my Pro. I really enjoy that it is far enough away from my MacBook that I can use the space around my Pro. This is important as I take notes and conduct other work around my Pro. The dock helped cool my Pro. I was using a USB to HDMI adapter to an external monitor. For some reason the graphics card was having to do extra work causing the MacBook to heat up to 108F on the external temp. Using the Thunderbolt 3 to this dock, then using the mini display out, the temp dropped to normal. Everything has been plug and play so far. Dislikes: The power supply has an audible high pitch ringed. I hear it 5 feet away in an open room with other noises in the room. Clearly the switching supply is poorly designed. I threw a towel over it which has muffled the sound, but power supplies don’t belong under towels. The front, the ports are off center from the case holes. This just makes it look cheap. It has a green and blue LED underneath in the front. I’m not sure what they do. The face downward, so, I only see them through the off-centered ports that are also pulled a little into the housing and the light shines out. The black top doesn’t quit fit in the metal housing. Just seems cheap. So, I think this has all the Ferrari parts, seems to function like one. But is also feels like a DIY KIT CAR someone put together in their garage for the first time. ... show more
