  • Wild Indigo is great to have in any flower garden as it can grow in a variety of soil conditions. Perennial false indigo is hardy, virtually pest and maintenance free and provides interest in the garden all year long. False indigo has deep blue flowers which appear in late spring to early summer on stems of blue-green leaves.
  • Grows as a perennial in USDA zones 3 - 9 reaching a height of 40 inches.
  • The dark, shiny seed pods that follow the flowers last through fall and winter providing interesting color and texture to the winter flower garden. The best place to plant false indigo seeds, or blue false indigo as it is sometimes called, is in any dry, average or medium wet well-drained soil.
  • Planting in a full sun location for best blooming, but it will tolerate partial shade. Follow a regular watering schedule during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system for the wild indigo. Feed with a general purpose fertilizer before new growth begins in spring. Prune old flower heads to encourage more blue indigo blossoms.
  • Sow 2 - 3 seeds per plant to being growing your false indigo plants today.

  • A Jiffy planter proved to be the best thing for beginners like me
Size: 100 Seeds
I was ecstatic that I have two sprouts after 15 days!! I know that baptisia (false indigo) is very hard to grow from seeds that are not fresh from the plant. I did nothing to the seeds- I did not soak them or knick them or use sandpaper to rough their edges. I simply bought a Jiffy peat pod system from Home Depot for $8 to hold 72 seeds. A Jiffy planter proved to be the best thing for beginners like me. I followed the instructions from Jiffy for all of my plants. Alongside the false indigo I'm growing chrysanthemums that took 3 days to sprout, impatiens 5 days, flax seeds 7 days and the false indigo 15. If you're not having any luck planting I highly recommend the Jiffy pods because a lot of times the seeds get blamed as bad product when it's not the seeds but rather an incorrect growing method. I compare the seeds to being a CD and the planting method to being a CD player- you need a good one in order to hear your music play. Good luck!! ... show more

  • Do things right. Don’t be impatient.
Size: 50 Seeds
Germination is successful when following directions for the plant species. Cold stratification required. once germinated they require some TLC to get established. prone to fungus and rot so consider a higher planting location that drains well or mound your soil prior to planting in the garden. I was lazy and didn’t get the numbers I wanted. but I have 4 adults established in my back yard so I’m happy with my results. ... show more

  • can't get it to grow
Size: 50 Seeds
I purchased these seeds after watching a seminar about native plants and grasses and these were just beautiful. I followed the directions on the packet, scored/sanded the seeds and I had no luck, I could not get any of them to grow. Very disappointing. Since I am fairly new at dealing with seeds that need to be scored/sanded perhaps I did not do it correctly, just wish a few had been successful ... show more
