  • Very happy with the results!
Size: 5 lb.
This seed is awesome! I live in SoCal and couldn't decide on one seed so I mixed this Midnight KBG with some Black Beauty Golden State and Hatrick/Fireball perineal rye seed from Bailey Seed Co. The results is a thick beautiful dark green grass that I'm cutting about an inch tall. Hand push reel and i don't bag the tiny clipping. Presently watering twice a day 4-5 minutes. You can't go wrong with this KBG but I have learned you might want to mix in some perineal rye with it. Also like to note that I started off with some old Bermuda filled with crab grass. There is a lot of great guys on YouTube who share how to make your lawn look good just trust the process! Good luck to you ... show more

  • Beautiful color but needs time to mature
Size: 5 lb.
I waited seven months before writing this review because I wanted to make sure it survived the -10 degree Ohio winter. I got a very late start planting this in 2014 and parts were only one inch tall when it went dormant. It grows very slowly. The color is a stunning deep emerald green. There is no other lawn in my neighborhood that matches this color and this is with regular fertilizer without iron. It is noticeable where my lawn meet my neighbors' lawns and they get lawn service. The word "upright" in describing how grass grows cannot be overstated. It really makes the lawn appear neat and shows up any other plants trying to muscle in. It is easy to rake and shows the lawn mowing pattern for those who like to cut on the diagonal. In retrospect, I would have kept spraying vegetation killer on the tilled soil for two more weeks before seeding just to make sure it was all dead. Then I would have watered just do be double sure. This lawn is only for those with the time and patience for the slow growing qualities that made me choose it in the first place. The winter color is a mix of green and yellow blades unless it is the first winter, in which case it stays green. It was totally green by April 1. I made the big mistake of using straw so I was constantly pulling out weeds and replanting fresh seed. The straw said it was weed free so I don't know what went wrong. Plus, my soil had to be tilled to 6 inches because an invasive grass with deep thick roots had taken over. Our home was the last one built in the neighborhood and it is where they dumped excess gravel. That had to go also. Did I mention the grubs and moles? My lawn was a wreck. I apply grub killer twice a year now. By April 2015, it was four inches tall and weed free and other areas are getting there with the help of fertilizer and full spectrum spray weed killer. Update 2/9/16 We are having record warmth in central Ohio this winter and the grass is still somewhat green. It was warm for several days in December so I mowed it down to the second from the lowest setting and it remained at that height. This enabled me to avoid raking leaves since they blow over the lawn as though it were concrete. It will show yellow footprints if anyone walks across it when it is very cold but so would my old lawn. It is nice, neat and compact looking. Any damage from dogs, etc self repairs withing 6 weeks. I can go as long as ten days without cutting. ... show more

  • Don't use this in Cleveland, OH.

Great grass seed. Took forever to grow!!! Grass is sort of fine. Not walkable. It's very pretty. It's like carpeting you don't want your guest to walk on.

  • Great seed. Quick customer service response by seller to resolve an issue unrelated to seed germination results.
Size: 5 lb.
Great seed. It sprouted faster than I anticipated and is starting to fill in bare areas in the soil. Following up at the 3 week since planted mark, the young sprouts are almost ready to be mowed over without me taking care to prevent damage in those areas. I anticipated roughly a 30 day germination rate because bluegrass is typically slow to germinate. A lot of people forget that and negatively review KBG seed because of that. To help me determine when I should start seeing sprouts in the lawn, I placed some seeds in two small, clear plastic pot drains, covered with dirt, watered and placed on my kitchen window sill. The seeds sprouted faster in the pot drains than they did in my front lawn but they are now taking root and growing well. It's at a point where I can now shift my attention to the sides and rear of the property. Even got a text from a neighbor yesterday complimenting me on how well the front lawn is looking. The goal is to have the midnight KBG take over all areas with red fescue and mix in with the other KBG currently present. Again, I'm quite happy with the results thus far. This is an edit to my original rating. The original was still 5 stars based purely on my experience with the seed. I just ran into a problem trying to order additional bags from the seller. I contacted the seller and they responded in less than 24 hours, even though the SLA through Amazon is a standard 48 hours. That's a positive mark right there to beat the SLA in such a fashion. The seller also provided detailed reasons for why the challenge existed and offered a resolution. Because of these actions, I feel it necessary to publicly note the positive experience. I'll continue to do business with this seller. ... show more

  • Not worth it
Size: 10 lb.
Not growing and now were I put this grass seed I have crabgrass growing for some reason. The scotts bluegrass I purchased in person at lowes is growing fine and no signs of weeds or crabgrass. Purchased this because of the description.

  • Mixed feelings some great some did not
Size: 10 lb.
Location Mid Michigan I have used this seed on an overseeding project last fall. In some areas the turf was really bald and did not grow at all, specifically in one 200 square ft area where I wanted to test the seed alone. Could be the temperature issues (perhaps too late in the season, but I watered religiously and nothing came up. So I tested it inside during the winter in a couple of trays with the same soil sample from the previously seeded area. The seed germinated in 6 days and two weeks later it was fairly thick. I will re-try that same area in May to see if it was indeed a climate issue here in Michigan, but in a constant controlled environment T 68°f it grew well, even after the cat walking on it😄, stay tuned for more. ... show more
