  • Excellent value for the money...so far..
Size: 50W Laser Machine Only
I say excellent value for the money so far because the long term value may change in a year of use...although I have no reason to suspect that to be so. But if it changes I will update this review. I will point out, for what it is worth, that this is one review I have a lot of experience in the item. I am a retired Laser Field Service Engineer on both C02 medical and C02 industrial lasers so I am more than just familiar with how to setup and align...run and maintain lasers. Downside is I worked on systems running from 50K to well over a million for large 3K watt welding systems....so sort of used to all high end optics etc. But to temper that I owned prior to this one a 40 watt system from FSL so I have experience with these chinese lasers and now know what to expect and not expect to temper my reality. First off shipping. This was shipped freight and had no real issues with freight...freight is freight..it arrives in an 18 wheeler unless the shipper setup a box truck with tail lift. These guys did not so it was a bit of fun to get it home but no big deal. As seen in my pics it was well crated...very solid shipping setup and I did not have any damage. I had to take the crate apart to get the system out. Weighs about 110 pounds uncrated I would guess...maybe 190 crated in my estimation. Two people can lift it. My wife and I lifted the laser ( not crate) on to a table with only minor complaining..:-). Everything was well packed, I always cringe when opening the back to check the tube...dreading a cracked tub but nope..solid as a rock. Spent a day unpacking and setting it up and double checking everything for leaks etc etc. Next day was time to start her up and do the alignment. Now I have done alignments for 25 years and can do them in my sleep..they are not tough especially when the red laser (aiming) is not combined with Co2 BEAM back at the tube. When the aiming laser is combined with a combining optic just out of the first optic from the tube them making sure the two beams are tangent all along the beam path can be a bit fun if you are not used to it. But this system uses a red diode laser at the beam output that just shines down at an angle to meet on the work surface. I like the prior setup better but both work. You simply have to do a quick adjustment if you change focusing beam lengths. Anyhow and surprisingly the CO2 beam was spot on through the entire beam path which usually in all my years is not the case but mine was spot on. Now I have to point out an important software upgrade. I do not use the RDworks it comes with...it is o.k....but poorly documented and in broken English. I use LightBurn...it costs $80.00 bucks and you get a free 30 day trial with full performance..no limited options or watermarks it is a full working trial. Now the laser uses the common Ruida controller so it works great with Lightburn and lightburn is a US product and well documented. Much much better than RDworks...so just upgrade to Lightburn with a 30 day trial and be happy because software is one the single most important parts of the laser. Seriously..the lasers themselves are fairly reliable..the gantry is pretty stout and all can be upgraded and repaired but software that is sketchy...ughhh. Back to testing. so far so good...accuracy is good and as good as my FSL laser was if not slightly better. Z height is manual but well layed out with a knob to turn to adjust z height. Very easy. Water pump was tyoical chinese pump but hey it pumps and same for the air pump..they work fine. If I need to upgrade to a chiller I will but I never needed one with my 40 watt FSL. The only cheezy item was the smoke evac hose..it is terrible. Just go to Lowes or HD and get some normal 6" flex vent before it arrives. Also they want you to ground the laser and computer with a wire ground seperate from the ground in the AC power line. I have never had to do this but I know why I think. I have seen in my years of field service laser arc to ground on rare occasions. usually water gets contaminated with minerals or something gets wonky in the HV wiring to the tube. Not common but I have seen some big arcs in my years so I assume this may just be a second layer of safety. Either way I ran the two ground lines as they said so be aware of how you will do this if you choose to. Luckily my laser is next to my breaker panel so ground was right there. Overall at this point it is worth the money. This model can be had for less but also for more...this seller was in the middle and I like Amazons customer protection so the price was fair. Over time I will upgrade the optics first to better quality optics but only when they start to get dirty and need it. usually you can pick up maybe 5-10% power increase due to loss in the cheaper optics. Laser tubes and power supply for this, and you will need a tube at some point, these are all very common and readily available. Same with the controller. As for some of the other motors and such..well we will see. Interested in seeing how that works out down the road. So..is it worth it...so far...yes. Glad I bought it. Nice and big..nice and heavy and rugged..not flimsy like the 40 watt table tops.....!!! ... show more

  • Not good
I'm struggling with this machine. I do not know what is wrong with it, and getting a response from the company is almost impossible. No easy instructions on setup or use. Just a manual that's packed with more than you need. An easy to follow instructional video would be great. I set mine up and have tried a few cuts. But no matter what I do I cannot get it to cut through 1/4" plywood or mdf on 1 cut. There's a lot of smoke, but it won't cut all the way through even on the highest setting, and lowest speed. I need HELP!! ... show more

  • Not for the mechanically uninclined
Size: 50W Laser Machine Only
So far, I'm loving this thing. At first I was a little intimidated by the instructions, but once I found that the hard part had already been done, it was just a matter of hooking it all up for operation. My only complaint is with the cheap, plastic fasteners you're supposed to use to hook up the water lines. Do yourself a favor and get some nice brass fittings. It will look much better and fit better as well. I had to play with some settings to get the photo where I wanted it, but once I read the booklet instructions, I was able to play with some additional settings after getting a good baseline. Still have much to learn in the way of cutting, but this is a great product! ... show more

  • Great cutter for the money
Size: 50W Laser Machine Only
This is a great cutter. I moved up from a much smaller 40W unit and this is a great machine for the money. The shipping was handled professionally and it was easy to setup. The instructions were pretty detailed and the software is pretty easy to follow. I did invest in a couple of digital thermometers for water temperature and a digital flow meter to ensure that that water was properly getting to the laser and I am using a 5 gallon water supply and have had no temperature issues. Their support is good as well. Note to buyers. This machine is big and heavy and with packaging is over 200lbs so make sure you have a way to get it off the truck and into your shop. ... show more

  • Poor Tech Support
Size: 50W Laser Machine Only
After reading the reviews I ordered this item. After setup I went to align mirrors and hit pulse and it made a loud cracking/arcing noise. I looked at the positive side of the tube and hit pulse and the high voltage arced to the case. The did not put enough silicon on the connection from factory. I added some and let it dry. I then hit pulse and nothing happens. After checking everything I contacted tech support via email. I told them the story that it would not fire the laser. They wanted a Youtube video of it not working?? Didn't make sense but I did one of it not working. Now each exchange takes 24 hours. Then they wanted a video of the lights on the power supply (why not ask the first time) so I did a video of the lights. They had no response. I asked them to send me a tube and a power supply and I would send back if not needed no answer. Then they asked me to borrow a high voltage probe and check the high voltage. I do work with electronics but I didn't have a probe. Got one and showed them a picture of the meter which showed 37000 volts. Which I have heard nothing back. This has been going on for two weeks. I understand they are in China but they could have giving me a list of troubleshooting all at one time and I would have been OK with that. Seems like they are stalling (or playing a game). I wanted to get some work out before Christmas but nothing but a non working machine. I guess if unit worked when plugged in it would have been OK. So at this point I am requesting a return. Now they have send me a new laser tube and that works fine (only took a month) Now there is a problem with the gantry being out of square making it hard to align mirrors. I had to raise left rail about 4mm and shim it to make it square. I emailed them about this problem showed a picture and the response was to watch a video on how to align mirrors..not what I needed. My question was is there a different way to make the gantry square other than shim the rail. So I just sent another email thru Amazon. The little bit I have used it it seems to cut fine..just need it level all around..not the bed the frame/gantry. Sent Back ... show more
