  • Excellent product.
Sturdy dense material. A little heavy might be 5 pounds. Quite fan and keeps drives cool. Currently I have only 3 drives in it stays around 40°c for each drive. I stream 4k video from it no problem. The door latching mechanism feels a little weak. I have no problems with it yet, however I only been using it for a few months. ... show more

  • Works as described, but build quality is worrisome
The product is well designed, works as described and i have had no problems. in use. My worry is the build quality. The doors for the disk bays feel cheaply made and scream "be careful when closing me". One of the rubber feet has already fallen off after one and a half months of use.

  • Awesome Storage add-on
I looked at many, many different USB drive enclosures that would hold 4 or 5 drives and NOT be a NAS or RAID solution. I just wanted to be able to plug in some of these random 3.5 inch hard drives and begin consolidating the data onto a newer, larger drive. The package was delivered a full day early, and I had it set up and in use in about 15 minutes. Literally plug and play with drives previously formatted in Windows. The data on the drives is safe and i can copy the data from them as I wanted. Transferring data from one drive to another within this enclosure is very fast. I copied 1.5 gigabytes of photos from one drive to another in less than one minute. I definitely recommend the Orico 9548U3 USB drive enclosure. ... show more

  • Poor RAID software, Only works as 4 Drives
I'm very disappointed in this enclosure. It is built well, but I could not find a way to set the RAID. The software the product description said to download was hard to find and did not find the disk to setup the RAID. I tried their software on Windows and OSX, the OSX version didn't even run. In the end, I was only able to use this as 4 separate disks, which is not the mode I wanted to use. ... show more

  • Very good value and reduces hdd vibrations very well
It reduces hard drive vibrations very well comparing to other solutions. The only downside to this enclosure is the locking mechanism, it's pretty low quality, 1 drive had a broken lock from the arrival on my unit. Still for the money, this product is very good value, highly recommended.

  • This product can be considered a portable hard drive enclosure with 4 slots.
This is a version of DAS without raid (you can consider it as a portable hard drive enclosure with 4 slots). It is NOT a NAS. For the one I got, the bottom slot cover was stuck behind the above horizontal bar, I spent some time to pull the cover out. Compare with the fan of my desktop, its fan is relatively quiet. Overall, this is what I need. ... show more

  • RETURNED / Nice quiet JBOD case, but be aware
UPDATE 2/28/2020 I really wanted to keep this enclosure, but I could not find the support I needed. I tried to keep the OS from having the drives sleep with NO success. I tried emailing Orico for technical support with NO success. I replaced this with a "OWC Mercury Elite Pro Quad RAID Ready (JBOD) 4-Bay Storage Enclosure". I called their customer support and spoke to a nice person (Liz) who double-checked with Technical Support that the enclosure would -not- put the HDs to sleep. She verified that since the box was built as a RAID device, as long as the host OS was set to not sleep the drives, the device would continue to poll it for activity. After 3 days of constant use, I can verify that this is true. I need the JBOD enclosure for immediate use for rendering animation as well as near-time access to music, files etc. I really wish Orico will read this feedback and either provide clear instructions on HOW to set this up with their product, or to at least respond to their emails. -------- First off, be careful making your purchase... there are lots of pictures attached to the Orico listing, but they represent DIFFERENT models. I did not need a RAID box, but a simpler JBOD one. Confirm your needs with the right picture! This replaces a 6 yr old Silverstone/Teratrend JBOD box that died suddenly (RIP). In comparison, this Orico JBOD box is slightly shorter but just as quiet sitting on my desk about 3 ft away from where I sit. My drives transferred to the new case and were recognized by my OS with no issues. I did run into the HD sleep issue that apparently is a "feature" of this drive. Since I use this JBOD for rendering motion graphics/VFX work, there are times where a single rendered frame can take up to 15-20mins to process; I can't have the disks sleep at all. Since I run a Mac, I used these two things to disable the sleep function: 1. in Terminal, type: sudo pmset -c spindown 0 this forces the OS to bypass all sleep settings in Preferences. Orico -may- have a firmware disable patch, but I haven't reached out to them yet for it. 2. in Apple Store, find the free application "Amphetamine". This app can keep your drives from going to sleep on a time schedule; mine is set to poll my drives every 9 mins. I've run this JBOD case for about a week now with no issues. I also had to place black tape with pinholes to cover the blue LEDs on the front of the case; I have a package of LightDim stickers somewhere I'll have to find again. But so far, the enclosure is working with no issues.. just the way it should! ... show more

  • Perfect except for the fan
Fine unit, works great, but the fan is very noisy. Since I have this in my bedroom I had to disable the fan by snipping its wire. No problems with overheating so far, but I only run the drives intermittently as backup storage. Unfortunately I couldn't figure out how to disassemble the unit enough to replace the fan with a quieter one. Nevertheless this thing is very heavy and sturdy, works perfectly, and just feels nice. ... show more
