  • Do one thing extremely well
I know I need to rewire my desk but I was in a hurry. I was stuck because I don't want to upgrade to a new Mac Pro desktop mid-transition to Apple Silicon, but my stopgap upgrade of a mac Mini definitely needed a Pro graphics processor for my photography and video software, and computational tools for research and my work as a security architect. This is built to last. Solid construction, no downstream tb3 but this needs to be last on the bus as I understand it, so I have an OWC thunderbolt 3 dock and an OWC Express 4m2 NVEm pool on the other bus. It's definitely portable and will hold up in transit but mine is on my desk attached to a mac Mini 90% of the time. It works great, exceeded my expectations. Once I installed a GPU (in my case just an overpriced by $400 RX580 Pro OC) and put a Steven Universe sticker on it that was it. Ready to rock. ✌🏻 ... show more

Pros Works pretty seamlessly Made well Fit most cards lots of space Cons Huge too big like the size of a regular desktop my desktop for comparison Instructions are bad How to use 1. First turn on laptop (not connected) 2. With egpu plugged in and power switch on then plug into thunderbolt 3. If not working flip thunderbolt connector at laptop around. 4. • seems good
came in fresh new packaging, construction seems sturdy so far Edit: I have now been using this for 5.5 months, with an RTX 3060ti, almost without an issue. For context, I'm using a Lenovo yoga 7i laptop, with an Intel Evo 12k processor. I've been running games like Baldurs gate 3 and horizon zero dawn on high settings. Little to no lag at all. Only issue is when I restart my computer while the device is plugged in, my laptop will attempt to use it as a boot drive, which obviously isn't going to work lol. ... show more

  • Better than a Razer Core X for USB4
If you have a USB-4 port on your laptop instead of a thunderbolt, I recommend this. I'm using this with a GPD Win Max 2, and it seems to utilize the GPU as best as USB4 and Thunderbolt 3 can manage together. The included TB3 cable (or any TB3 cable for that matter) isn't enough for the full bandwidth. I recommend a USB4 cable instead. I purchased a USB4 240W Anker cable, and it works great, it maxes out the bandwidth at 3000MIB/s. I also really like the design of this case. It's significantly lighter than the Razer Core X, and the way you remove the GPU is superior in my opinion. The top comes off instead of the sliding out with the Razer Core X. It also has a retractable handle, which is really neat for portability. Overall, This thing is worth $280. I've only used it for a day and I'll update only if something goes wrong with it. ... show more

  • Easy to use
I've always had laptops and have had no experience installing or running external gpus but this was very simple and easy. No tools required and the screws were big so I didn't have to worry about losing them. So far I haven't had any issues with noise or cooling. It's been quiet and keeping cool. Now I'm finally able to play games at the highest settings with no lag. ... show more

  • Works fine with my thunderbolt 4 laptop.
Works with my RTX 2080 TI. Unfortunately my card is a 3 slot card so in order to make it fit I had to cut off the last slot on the faceplate of mm 2080 TI. There is enough room to fit the card just the box only has 2 slots in it. Been using it for a week now and works great. Now the only bottleneck left is to upgrade the ram in my laptop. I do like the design. The spring loaded handle is a nice touch. Maybe the only thing I would want to change is the side mesh. I would rather that be a glass panel to see my card clearly but aside from that it works as expected Being able to charge my laptop over the same cable is a plus. ... show more
