  • Wow, works great.
This charger is working well. I like the digital readout and options available like AGM, deep cycle, maintain, etc. You do have to “select” what you are trying to do but it’s a single button push in most cases. Being able to ask it the state of the battery is useful. I have a 40 year old charger that still works but bought this for a new location, I’m glad I did. I may get another and put my old one on the shelf as an emergency backup, that’s how much I like it. ... show more

  • Smart Charger that actually tells you what is going on
This is an excellent charger! Works great on my yellow top, my secondary standard battery, my mower, and soon I bet it'll see the Harley battery. I'm charging all of them with this now. Real simple to use. Connect the battery, plug it into the wall and push a button or two. It tells you the battery life after a 5 mins evaluation, then starts charging and tells you what amp and voltage it is at. I'm super impressed. I bought this to have a nice charger around, and the guys at Optima charged a battery for me at a car show years ago with this same charger. Gave it back to me in just over an hour and said I was good to go, and that battery got me through the rest of the show! ... show more

  • Optima Battery Charger
Fantastic charger, charges all automotive batteries. Works great with the maintainer mode. Small and portable. Don’t think this is not a premium unit due to size. It’s much nicer than my large roll around units.

  • REALLY good charger
I got one of these because my neighbor let me borrow his. One of my cars had the battery completely die on it. The battery was about 5 years old so it is what I would consider near the end of it's life AND i don't drive the car a lot. I pulled the battery out and put it on this charger. It took ~12 hours for it to fully charge and go to maintenance mode. The battery has worked like an absolute champ ever since. The cost of this is slightly prohibitive/steep. But compared to the $40 ones you find at the part store... it does a lot more and performs WAY better. So it certainly lives up to the price. ... show more

  • Best battery charger ever
Not only are Optima Batteries the best, but they’re battery chargers are outstanding! They are great at charging up a battery or maintaining a battery while it’s not being used. I even had one of these big Optima chargers, go bad, for some reason, and Optima sent me another one right away!

  • Excellent!
This is the first charger I have ever owned that has really been well engineered. The handle and cord storage is great; the clamps are first rate (love the little light in my dark battery compartment on the boat); and the electronics seem to be very well done. I bought it because I my old Schumacher charger had died, and I had borrowed another Schumacher charger from my neighbor to charge a marine starting battery that had been heavily discharged by accidentally leaving the fishfinder on for a week. The borrowed charger simply would not recharge that $100 battery, apparently because it was so heavily discharged. After a string of cheap chargers, I went looking for a better one. This looked very nice and the reviews were good. When I got delivery of the new Optima, I tried it on that same marine battery. It analyzed it for a couple of minutes and then went right to work. I checked after 3 hours and it was still at only 50% of capacity, but by the next morning it was fully charged and it seems to work just fine now. I figure that the Optima just saved me half of its purchase price on its first job. I plan to use it to maintain my boat batteries over the winter. They don't do to well up here in northern MN. This looks like a winner. ... show more

  • A lot of buck, not much bang.
I always hesitate before giving a substandard review, but as I rely on others, it is important to share what I know. I'm a bit of a battery charger freak, and have really been impressed with the advance in technology of chargers. I have some equipment in the Keys and that environment is so tough on batteries (not to mention the difficulty of getting the right replacements if they go dead) that I try and stay ahead of the batteries being dormant and bringing them back after the off season. I have a couple of CTEK chargers that seem to do a great job not only with keeping batteries maintained, but also bringing them back. The only problem was that the amperage output is a bit low, and for deep cycle marine batteries, I didn't want to wait for a couple of days to top off the batteries before heading out. I do have a CTEK 25000, but @ $240, I wanted to try something else to see if there was a better option out there. This seemed a good fit and the fact that I have owned a few Optima batteries with great results, it seemed like the way to go. After I got it I tested by charging a couple of garden batteries that I have, and it seemed to go well. I brought it down to the Keys and started with the 4-wheeler charging it overnight. Having had success, the next job was the marine batteries. Hooked it up on the first battery and I watched while it went through the initial phase, I heard the fan kick on and it was doing its thing. I came back 3 hours later to check on it, and the fan was off, the display dead and no lights to speak of. I unplugged it from both the power and battery, then hooked it all up again, and nothing was working. I thought that perhaps it tripped some internal temperature safety (I'm sure it was putting out some amps for the deep cycle battery), so I waited until the next day to see if that might resolve the issue. Long story short, according to Optima, it's dead. No big deal, it happens sometimes and perhaps I got a weird one. I received an email back from Optima the very next day with an RMA#, but when I asked when the replacement would ship out so I could just put the old one in and ship it back, the answer came back that I would have to find packaging, pay for the shipping, and they would try and fix it. If they could, they would send the repaired unit back, if not they would send a new one. It was not exactly what I was expecting after spending $200 on a battery charger. Needless to say, I don't have the packaging, no charger while they evaluate the solution, the repaired/replacement unit will now be making 2 round trips instead of 1 one-way trip, and I have a charger that cost me $200 which failed on the third attempt to charge anything. I guess I would have expected better results for what is a relatively expensive item. I'm hopeful that the replacement unit will be much better and will update when I know more. In the end, Optima batteries are great but I think I'm going to find another solution (maybe back to CTEK) to charge them. ... show more
