The OMTech K40+ (Plus is important) is not the cheapest K40 around. But this is because its packed with a bunch of features you'd otherwise have to sort for yourself if you bought one of the cheaper models: -Upgraded GRBL compatible control board so you can use Lightburn right out of the box. -Contact sensors that prevent the laser from firing when the lid or collection tray is open -Honeycomb bed. -Adjustible height lens so you can get the correct focal point without having to raise or lower the bed. -Included led light so you can see your progress -Height-adjustable feet to level the machine - Other options I've surely forgot to mention If I had to ding the machine for something, it would be the positioning of the collection drawer contact sensor. If the collection drawer is out even by a hair, the laser will refuse to fire and you may not know why. I wasted quite a bit of time trying to troubleshoot my laser not firing without any feedback that the answer was very simple, nudge the drawer in a bit. I can foresee a situation where vibration could also lead to it sliding out in the middle of a job. As long as you know about it, its not that bad of an issue. ... show more

Took a few hours to get mirrors all aligned. Once done went to check z axis and wouldn’t fire through lens. Took off lens part to check and beam was centered. Checked lens and the o ring was missing and lens had a crack. Waiting to hear back from support. Sent pic of Lens and they said it looked fine. Sent pic again with arrow pointing to crack and haven’t heard back. Company did finally send a new lens and o ring for lens. Works great now. ... show more

    • Great CO2 laser cutter for hobbyists and beginners!

This is a very nice starting point to get into CO2 lasers with. Perfect for the hobbyist or beginner not looking to make the large jump in size and price to the 50W+ lasers. It's on the higher end of pricing for K40 lasers but it does come with most of the popular mods out of the box, and it's from a well known brand in the laser world. Included "factory mods": mA readout, honeycomb bed, upgraded mirrors, red dot laser, GRBL board, and adjustable head. Does include a coolant temp sensor and exhaust fan too but they're kinda bad and should be replaced/upgraded (read below). Mine came perfectly aligned out of the box and was packed very well. Be warned, it is a VERY heavy package. Enlist a friend for help getting this thing to where it will live. Couple suggestions though: -Replace the built-in temp display with one that actually goes into the water path. Plenty out there made for PC watercooling that will work really well. -Rip the crappy axial exhaust fan out and get a much stronger inline duct fan. -Get a stronger air assist pump/compressor to replace the wimpy built in one. ... show more
