I bought 2 a couple years ago and felt I needed more for it to have the right effect so I got 2 more for this season. Held up through a ton of rain and wind. For some reason we don't get much snow until the lights come down... Anyway here's the important thing - there's an eyelet at the top of each tube and those should be used to hang the lights. I use twist ties. If they're left hanging by the wires then that added stress is likely why they break sooner. It's not a heavy gauge. I'm also glad to find a warm white color because it blends better with the incandescent net lights. Cool white sticks out too much unless you have all LED's. ... show more

I've purchased several brands of these falling rain lights in the past 10 years, and this set is the first I liked enough to make part of my "permanent" Christmas decoration regimen. These have a quality feel that makes me hope to have them for 20 years. They are constructed with high brightness, current technology smh 5050 LEDs that are about 3 times brighter than some others. The plastic tubes are relatively robust and formed in a pleasing spiral shape that diffuses the light and looks more attractive during the day. The set has 12 long 50 mm tubes, each containing 48 LED chips on a rigid strip. The blue color is rich and bright. The speed of sequential flashing is correct, and to my eye, it gives the impression of something (like rain) falling naturally. I liked the set well enough to purchase three more. All four sets came in good mechanical and electrical condition, and none failed in any respect during three weeks of exterior display. I can't really attest to the tubes' water resistance. We had one light rain, and none of the 48 tubes showed any condensation afterwards. Some ingenuity is required to hang these tubes. They have two small loops molded into the end caps where the wires enter the tubes. This year, I used 14 gauge copper wire threaded through both loops and over a branches in the tree I decided to decorate. This allowed me to make the tubes hang almost perpendicular to the ground, which I think looks best. My only complaints are (1) the length of wire between the tubes could be longer to allow more options of positioning them in a tree, and (2) the box they come in is not adequate to use for storage. If you're using the lights in an application other than a tree, the distance between them might be about right. I've ordered 3" x 30" mailing tubes to store them between seasons. I found 6 nice white tubes with caps on ebay for about $25. ... show more

You'll need at least 4 or 5 strings to make them worthwhile if you're doing any area at all. That being said, the effect of the lights en masse is stunning when it snows - or even on a dark evening. There is something hypnotic and calming about the effect. Not real easy to install, but, once installed, they stay in place. Put up the 8 light set which is nothing short of mindblowing entertainment.They've been through some stormy weather upstate NY here involving high winds, rain, freezing rain, snow, repeat, lol. They're functioning beautifully and we really enjoy the strong blue led light they put out, it really is uniquely fascinating! We call them drippers, btw, but seriously, they are way cool, and definitely very affordable with a high return on enjoyment!!! Love these and will be adding more for sure to my display!
