  • Perfect accessory for the 14-42 EZ
Color: Black Style: Single
Works as intended. Increases ease of the photo taking process. One of the reasons the 14-42 EZ lens is usually on my camera rather than any of the many other Olympus lenses I have.

  • Convenient and hard to lose, but with compromises
Color: Silver Style: Single
To be able to use this cap, you give up the ability to use filters without removing the cap. Otherwise it is convenient to just power up the camera and the cap opens

  • A Brilliant Solution To A Non-Existent Problem
Color: Black Style: Single
I received this lens cap today, and it works as described. However, I'll be returning it. Why? At first I thought it would be a good lens protection solution for my 14-42 EZ lens which lives on my travel camera. I reasoned that I would just leave it on the lens all the time and when I turned the camera on, it would open up and then close again when I turned the camera off. It does this as claimed. But when I got the item, I could see at once that the blades that open and close the cap are far too flimsy. It would be far too easy to pick up the camera incorrectly and stick a finger through the cap, ruining it. If it bumps up against anything else in your camera bag, this cap is going to be toast, and you will be out $28 for a new cap. This unit in no way provides the same level of protection as a standard lens cap. It also keeps you from using either a filter of any kind, or a lens hood, and the EZ lens really does need a hood at its wide focal lengths in bright sun to avoid flare and ghosting. So what is the best solution? Honestly, it is probably to buy a 37mm UV Protector filter for about $6 and put it on the lens and leave it there. You won't stick your finger through it, and nothing in your camera bag is going to break it. With the filter, you only need to put the little lens cap that came with your lens back on when you are all done shooting for the day. Otherwise, leave the cap in your camera bag. You will probably lose it at some point, but if you did, AND you shattered the filter, you would only be out $10 -$12 total. Use the money you save by not buying the auto opening cap on a lens hood for use in bright sun. So after 45 years of hobby and professional photography, I'd say this automatic opening lens cap is a solution to a problem that just doesn't exist. It is cute, but does not do anything I need a lens cap to do. ... show more

  • Such a convenient accessory
Color: Silver Style: Single
I use this on an E-PM2 with the pancake lens. Makes it so convenient to shoot with. Never have to worry about keeping track of the lens cap.

  • Clever and convenient but not as good protection as a filter
Color: Black Style: Single
This gadget is clever and could be very convenient for you. Note that it does NOT work with most Olympus lenses. It is designed fro the 14-42mm EZ that comes as the kit lens with a number of Olympus cameras, and notice the "EZ" part of that lens type. That's the pancake version of the 14-42. IT DOES NOT work with the Olympus 14-42mm RII lens, which is the kit lens that comes with a number of other Olympus cameras!! It *has to* be the EZ version. I use it with the Olympus 17 mm pancake, which also works. My main complaint is that you cannot use this with a filter. The space taken up by the filter would keep the cover from closing. If this cover gets poked at the wrong angle, e.g. by a child's finger, you can easily push right through it and hit the lens glass. I'd rather put a UV filter on the lens to protect it, and just not use a cap if it's super inconvenient for some reason. So, that reduces the utility of this gadget for me. However, it does look super slick and future-robot-like when it pops open and closed. ... show more

  • They need to make these for every lens.

  • A great way to recreate the digicam experience
Color: Black Style: Single
This is exactly what it says it is, an automatic opening and closing lens cap for the tiny Olympus 12-42 collapsible lens. Throw this on your E-PL7, your PEN-F, or even an OM-D EM-1 Mark II, and you have an almost pocket-sized camera that will take dSLR-quality photos. And, you just pull the camera out, turn it on, and you're ready to go. No messing with the lens cap (it screws into the front of the lens), no losing the lens cap. Just brilliant! I wish they could do one of these for EVERY lens. ... show more

  • Such a tremendous convenience, very highly recommended
Color: Silver Style: Single
I'm using this on the 14-42 EZ kit lens that came with my OMD EM10 Mark 2 camera. This is such a tremendous convenience. You don't have to worry about losing your lens cap, and you don't have to worry about forgetting to put the cap on and thus risking scratches to the lens. And you're more likely to get a picture in time when the moment is fleeting, because you just turn on your camera and shoot, this removes the intermediate step of taking off the lens cap and putting it somewhere. Sure, that's only a second or two, but there are some times when that'll make the difference between getting a good shot or missing it. Mostly, though, I just LOVE the convenience of this, and wish they made a cap like this for every one of my lenses. ... show more
