I got this today and I have to admit it's awesome. I did have trouble with assembly but that's probably my fault. I got this for all my yarn, mostly use Caron Jumbo. The blue is Big Twist yarn and the multi is Caron Jumbo in Zinnia. The blue worked up great but the Caron Jumbo one went only so far before it hit the other bobbin. Not to much to just wind around myself. The yarn did fall off the one bobbin but it was easy to get back on without losing the yarn cone. Not noisy, easy to use, and I'm happy with this purchase. My only issue is a table to use it on lol Edit on 9/22/2023 After using this on more than 50 skeins of yarn I can definitely say I do not regret buying this. The only issue I've had to deal with was sometimes the yarn would slip down and get tangled in the gears. Maybe 1 every 10 skeins it would happen. Easy to fix just a pain. I just finished my last skein today and the space I've saved is awesome. If ur not sure on if ya need this, let me tell u that u do! It's perfect for Caron Jumbo Print and even smaller yarn like Lion Brand Summer Nights which is super fine yarn. Definitely worth the money!! ... show more

    • Better winder for heavy use
I am writing this review, in case you wonder what is the difference between this and some of the cheaper yarn winder. I only have been knitting with natural fiber that comes in skein in the last year or so so there has been no need for a shift & winder set up for the commercial acrylic I have been knitting with the last 3-4 decades. Purchase the set with the shift from Olikraft because of the price last June. It worked quite well so that I started winding up all my left over acrylics from my attic. It’s addictive. But a year or so later, the winder’s gear started slipping, maybe the gears are worn & stripped. For reference I am an avid knitting that always have a project on my needle (some commission work). To be fair, I would say the equipment was use heavily. So I was in search for a better one. Purchased an electric one but it was just crap! Sorry to be blunt but there’s no other way to put it. I would have love for it to work but it can’t take any bit of tension so it just stop every few second! It was more pain than winding up to a ball by hand. Returned and I unintentionally bought this one from the same company as my original set. Just got it yesterday. It is so much more substantial feeling. For starter, it is made of metal and the gears are so much smoother. For around the same price as the set with the shift (so a more expensive investment), you get a great tool that remove the frustration and should last for years of creativity. It is a larger unit so it may be best if you have a spot in your craft room to have it affix permanently. I wind up my yarn in the living room on a wood TV dinner tray. I highly recommend this investment if you will be using it on a regular basics. The set I purchase last June is good for novice with light use. ... show more

I bought this product because the description said it could wind 16 oz of yarn. It's east to assemble. It winds the warn very quickly but I had to finish winding my yarn by hand because it does not wind 16 Oz of yarn as promised.... It's still a great product.

I bought this yard winder to replace one that I had that has come up missing. It looks nearly identical to it. However, my old one had Metal Gears which yes are great because they're really sturdy, but they were very very loud. Like to the point where I could not use the yarn winder if I was trying to watch TV talking to somebody in the same room or otherwise doing something other than just winding the yarn. Now this one has. I believe it was nylon gears which seem pretty solid to me. The cone I think is an identical size to what I'm used to. So I'm going through all of my yarn and rewinding the bits and pieces that I still have of partially used balls or larger skeins which have gotten a little messy. As you can see in the pictures I have attached, this is almost max evolve you for what it will wind. This is a red heart yarn in one of the larger skeins and it's was not actually used at all. So this is the full volume. Unfortunately I don't have the label but it is larger than the usual 7 oz. It's quiet. It doesn't seem to have any issue spinning. There's no hiccups or missed gear teeth so this is going to work well for me. ... show more

I recently purchased this yarn winder and I must say that I am SO pleased with it. So far, I've caked only a few skeins but they caked up in minutes and it did a great job. Such a time saver! I was also pleased with the quality and sturdiness of this winder. I loved that it's constructed with mostly metal parts therefore I think it should last me for a very long time. I found it a bit confusing to assemble - I did watch the video, I actually stopped it and watched it. At first I assembled the winding arms upside down and had to reassemble it. Then I tried to use it, it took me a bit of trial and error, but now I have the hang of using it, and it does a beautiful job of making yarn cakes that I can stack neatly and use easily!!! If you like to knit, crochet or loom - you gotta have this. It's very sturdy, and I like that it attaches to a table top so it doesn't slide around when you use it. It's a must have for anyone who has a hobby using yarn!!! ... show more
