If the price is too good, it probably is. The size of the door is okay for my roosters and my chickens but it's certainly tight. Tested safety by closing the door on a piece of Styrofoam and it chopped it in half. Doors also had sand in the tracks right out the box. Door sounded super gritty when it would operate. Programming confusing. Unsure what the different modes are. Instructions are not clear. I set the clock to correct time before programming and setup the solar panel as it instructs. Door worked for one week, then stopped working altogether. Won't open in the morning. Won't close at night. Now it won't even open manually with the remote or by pushing the up arrow. Ultimately I have just paid for a prison door while I am out of town. Ugh ... show more

Having lost a few of our chickens to predators due to the coop being unsecured at night we really needed an automatic option that could keep out raccoons and foxes. In the past I've used an automatic door but that one had some issues that this one appears to have fixed. For one thing, my old door didn't come with a battery included, and my coop is far enough from the house that running a power cord over to it was not convenient nor was it the safest environment to run a cord through especially in the wintertime. This door not only comes complete with battery power, but it also includes a solar panel with which to keep the battery charged. So far this is working fine. Time will tell if it will be enough to keep the battery charged but if not, there are other features of this door that will help. For one thing I can plug a USB power bank into the door to charge it up. It's helpful that this door has a display that will tell you how charged the battery is. My last chicken door did not include a display. It was far more basic but would have benefitted from the ability to display what settings were in use. The display on this door is great because not only can you see how charged the battery is, but you can also verify that the clock is set right, and the settings are as you want them. The door comes with a booklet of instructions, and I didn't find programming the settings too difficult. This brings me to another benefit of this door compared to my old one. The old door was controlled by a light sensor. There was a knob to turn to adjust the sensitivity of the sensor to choose how bright/dark it needed to be outside before the door opened/closed. Unfortunately, I always found this knob to be frustrating. You make an adjustment and then have to wait for dusk to see if your adjustment is good. It was hard to fine tune, and I was never able to get it satisfactorily adjusted. This door is far superior. There are multiple options for triggering the door. You can set the clock and tell it what time to open and what time to close, you can do it based on a light sensor, you can hit the button on the panel, or you can use a remote control. This resolves a lot of the frustration that I had with my earlier system. Everything seems to be working great so far after about a week of use and I'm sure my chickens are happy to not be waiting on me to let them out every morning. Based on my experience so far, I would recommend this coop door to others looking to "auto-magically" have the door open and shut. ... show more
